I agree with you, but Byrne had 17 saves for Army. That is a great equalizer. He may be the best goalie in the country (statistically) over the last two seasons.

Byrne started off at 80% before UNC adjusted and started getting some good looks on the crease. I believe every shot had to be 10 yards or less and 6 were dunks. Byrne still finished at 59%....

Not surprised. This is more of the bias that we get no matter what sport it is. Wilson should keep the receipts and prove them wrong by continuing to play at a high level. More motivation material if you ask me. Go Heels!

17-7 win

-UNC played make it take it for most of the game with Wambach dominating

-Harvard either didn’t slide or slid slow in the first half vs Duffy and he scores 4 in the first half

-UNC continued to play aggressively with the doubles and quick slides, but effectively neutralized the off ball shots by rotating quickly and collapsing on players on the crease

-Marcus started off with 4 saves in the first quarter and finished at 61%!

-Harvard was much more aggressive in sliding to Duffy in the 2nd and he found good feeds, but the Harvard goalie really stepped it up. Harvard did a good job rotating to the off-ball shooters as well which limited good looks.

-UNC did a great job against Harvard’s 10 man ride

All that talent is really starting to come together..Next 4 games are gonna be tough. But i think this team is ready for it. They've been battle tested

If the Heels figure out how to hold onto the ball a little more, they will be very dangerous. They scored 17 today and had 18 turnovers. If they can cut the TO's by 1/3, they will be frightening.

UNC - Harvard reaction:

Wambach, Duffy, and Marcus’ performances lead to a UNC route of Harvard.

Breschi signed a 3-year contract extension through 2029
I don't understand why we would do it now. After missing the tournament 3 years in row, we had a first round flameout last year. The program has been on life support, despite great recruiting. While we've taken a step forward this season, I still would've waited on the final results before any extension. Breschi is leading a very charmed life for a Div 1 head coach IMO.

Perhaps he is the beneficiary of the athletic department having much bigger fires to fight?

In this day and age stability is important. As is fundraising. Joe is a good guy and a good coach and doesn’t mind having to shake the money tree.

The next 5-6 games are really hard. But if Marcus and Wombach play well, they are good enough to win them all.

I laughed out loud when I saw the news break about Coach's extension. The heads that must be exploding on this board are numerous. This extension is not about wins and loses or perception or fan opinion. Coach Breschi checks all of the boxes for an AD:
1) Players who don't get in trouble and no scandals surrounding the team. check
2) Players who earn their degrees, have high (or at least respectable) GPAs and are great in the community. check
3) Players who stay for the entirety of their eligibility. big check
4) The unusually high number of ex-players and college coaches who have sent their sons to play for Breschi. check
5) The players almost universally love the man and his family. check
6) He's a great ambassador for UNC. check
7) He's completely without controversy. check
8) He's an alum. check

This is no longer applicable, but in the old days of 12.6 fully funded scholarships, look at the size of the teams he recruited, subtract the 12.6 scholarships and then multiply that number x the out of state tuition for UNC. That's how much money he brought into the school each year.

The standards for success in non-revenue sports is a lot different from football and men's basketball. Yes, everyone wants national championships. But the yardstick in lacrosse is completely different from the revenue sports.

Thanks Joe. Despite all your window dressing, winning is still a thing. There are other programs that do all those wonderful things AND constantly beat you. Just go win man.

The guy has his team #2 in the country. Let’s see how they finish before whining about not winning.
There are people on this board who have been calling for Coach's head for over a decade. Some day they'll get their wish and he'll leave. But, unless something outrageous happens within the program, that will occur when Coach retires. Winning is important, but AD,s demand different things from revenue and non-revenue sports. The Athletic Department and the administration love Breschi. He's not going anywhere, no matter how hard some posters whine.

not to mention the fact that he just pulled one of the most stacked recruiting classes in recent memory.

recruiting is also part of his job and counts for something..

i get the criticisms about underachieving but this program's trajectory is extremely high right now. Most of this squad will be back next year and will contend again.

As long as UNC is contending i don't see him going anywhere
