I swear that there are dookies posting on this board. This was the kind of win that the team needed. Penn State did everything they could to shut off Petro and Owen. That's when others stepped up and played like their recruiting rankings. The defense held a team that scored 19 off of the defending NCAA Champions to 8. This was a great game all around. Brady and the FO middies did really well. Josh made some good saves. Defense played smart and communicated well. Just a lot to build on. Great job Heels! Top 10 win!

Went to the game yesterday in Charlotte v PSU. Few observations:
- The PA announcer was a PSU homer. How does that happen?
-Brady Wambach is such an advantage. I will say he makes me nervous with the ball, he has no handle whatsoever. Can't remember a great FOGO that was that shaky with the ball in his cross, but he fights like a dog...
-Defense continues to play really really well. Looked like Cellucci was out, but there was no real dropoff in team defense. Thomann is so strong for his size... Our SSDMs are the best I have seen anywhere this year so far. The only real option PSU had was to get a middie running left to right and getting a step on the defender. I think that was three of their 8 goals.
-Midfield offense is getting better as season goes by. I like having Matan run with midfield. He (and Duffy) need to evolve into pass first dodgers for this offense to reach its peak. If these guys start scoring, Dom is going to get alot of clean looks. And he does not miss clean looks.
-Dom did a good job being patient. I bet he has never taken just 4 shots in a game in his UNC career. They werent locking him off, but they were rarely sliding from him. The one time i noticed they did slide off him, he picked up a rebound and put it back from around 8 yds for his only goal.
-Goalie is good. Good foundation to build on. And he is playing with the best UNC defense in 10 years in front of him.
-Overall, the attack group is still a question to me. Dom is the best lefty shooter i have ever seen. Wilson can be nifty... but he is easy to overpower in unsettled situations. Turns it over alot. Very small. Fast but not lightning fast. Duffy. Not sure what to say about him but the ball stays in his stick way longer than it should. This is a situation where Breschi's desire to be a players coach is hurting the team. He is strong and fast, but not fast enough to consistently run by people. So he goes on dodges with no strategy and winds up triple teamed and turning the ball over. Happened at least three times yesterday. He should have been benched after the first one,
Overall, good game. ACC season should be something to look forward to.

found out how the PA announcer was a PSU homer. Apparently the organizer of the event (and he could have even actually been the PA guy) is a former Hall of Fame PSU lacrosse player..... who knew?

This is the result of a great recruiting class to come in this year. This is what bringing top level recruits with good coaching can do. Great win. Go Heels!

Spot on! Too many weapons for teams to try to stop. Petro has really done a great job of getting the defense to play with an attitude. The offense is no longer relying on only two players. Wambaugh is the best face off middie we've ever had, and we've had some really good face off middies.

Wambach is a human cheat code.

Tbh, that game was closer than I'd like considering the possession advantage that we had. We were +15 on faceoffs and +5 on turnovers.

I agree with you, but Byrne had 17 saves for Army. That is a great equalizer. He may be the best goalie in the country (statistically) over the last two seasons.

Byrne started off at 80% before UNC adjusted and started getting some good looks on the crease. I believe every shot had to be 10 yards or less and 6 were dunks. Byrne still finished at 59%....

Not surprised. This is more of the bias that we get no matter what sport it is. Wilson should keep the receipts and prove them wrong by continuing to play at a high level. More motivation material if you ask me. Go Heels!

17-7 win

-UNC played make it take it for most of the game with Wambach dominating

-Harvard either didn’t slide or slid slow in the first half vs Duffy and he scores 4 in the first half

-UNC continued to play aggressively with the doubles and quick slides, but effectively neutralized the off ball shots by rotating quickly and collapsing on players on the crease

-Marcus started off with 4 saves in the first quarter and finished at 61%!

-Harvard was much more aggressive in sliding to Duffy in the 2nd and he found good feeds, but the Harvard goalie really stepped it up. Harvard did a good job rotating to the off-ball shooters as well which limited good looks.

-UNC did a great job against Harvard’s 10 man ride

All that talent is really starting to come together..Next 4 games are gonna be tough. But i think this team is ready for it. They've been battle tested

If the Heels figure out how to hold onto the ball a little more, they will be very dangerous. They scored 17 today and had 18 turnovers. If they can cut the TO's by 1/3, they will be frightening.
