Some notable 4* recruits at UK: Eric Bledsoe, Doron Lamb, Kyle Wiltjer, Willie Cauley-Stein, Devin Booker, Tyler Ulis, SGA, Tyler Herro, Reed Sheppard. Just maybe the kid commits to UK and surprises everyone year one. The truth is no one really knows how it will play out, so I'm all for giving it a chance.

6'9" guy that can run, jump, shoot
Would be pretty good addition

Sign him up. Song choice is questionable though.

That Keegan guy said something about not needing elite recruits to build a roster. I don't remember the exact quote but it was eye opening. Hope he knows his stuff
I would agree with that. You don’t need elite recruits to build a roster. But you do have to know exactly what you’re looking for in players and commit to that.

Iowa and Nebraska don’t have elite recruits, but what they do have is guys who have a diverse set of skills, they buy into the system, and the coach demands that they play hard and together.

In 2 years we’ve seen nothing of that from a Pope coached team on a consistent basis. We’ve gotten flashes here and there. Maybe the new GM helps with keeping a clear focus on what the roster should look like, because this years roster was horribly constructed.

He looks to be top 50 on 247 composite (not 35). However, elite athleticism w/ good frame. Nice recruit to land, again if the price tag is reasonable. Seems UT is in the lead from the 247 profile?

I have a hunch that this will be tough for Poop to land. Kid's got an NBA frame, and he will need the right coaching and development. His camp and other coaches will likely be recruiting negatively on Poop's (nonexistant) NBA footprint.

you figure he has to build almost entire roster.
these 4 star guys are guys who he is "building" around.
with 9 mil to spread out to 3 players... one has to be excited with whom these MEN will be.
You figure they have to be transfers / semi pro dudes who are going to be 23+.
if you can't have 5 star talent. the upperclass MAN is the alternate.

If you watched the two EE games tonight, you just know Pope won’t put anyone on our roster that could come close to playing in those games. Those were some tough talented players. (Could you imagine Moreno in that Purdue/Arizona game?). It’s going to be rough ride my friends.

Now we are bad fans because we are skeptical when we are told we should be excited because Kentucky is "reaching out" to a 4 star. May be a good player, but we haven't landed him and there seems to be dwindling talent and coaching year to year. Pope needs to get some signed talent soon or we are in big trouble next year.

My guess is we will have more transfer out than coach expected. Which from what I have seen that should make a lot of ppl on here happy.

It's like when Michael Scott has the job fair and screws it up with the only kid that showed interest.
Now he needs to tell Pam(assistants) to go and get him the real white card stock(NBA players) instead of this paper(Leftover recruits) she got from the art room.

If it's true what some say Pilgrim posted we will need a whole new team. Told them they were welcomed back but only with a pay cut.
Reading what’s been said, if Pope can learn from his mistakes maybe that can lead to positives. But he has a lot of mistakes to correct. I’m not sure if he’s going to be able to rectify them enough of them to move into at the very least top 4 in the SEC. And frankly I’m being very very kind because Kentucky should always be in the top 2, especially with the money they’re spending compared to other schools.

Say what you want but UT and Bama always find guys ranked around him or higher that end up being good players.
Idc what anyone says find the players that fit the system a coach likes to run and work on player development is more important than rankings out of high school

He’s made mistakes but I think as fans we should be more supportive that he figure it out. Not his fault that Barnhart is not a good ad. If we aren’t great next season I’ll be ready for a new coach but I’m willing to give him a 3rd year. Idk what he’s doing wrong recruiting these hs kids but that’s gotta change in a hurry

Wrong order! Must get the studs first. We’re heading for a fissco.
I agree. It feels almost as if Pope scrounged just enough money to where if he got really lucky he just might be able to buy the medicine he needs to save his life. Then he decides to go shopping hungry…

Probably means that Stokes isn’t coming. But would this player even be a contributor? Same with Williams.

I don’t get these moves going after guys who won’t even be contributors until year 2 or 3. And Pope doesn’t have time to be making these kinds of commitments. He needs immediate impact players for NEXT YEAR.
Watch him play and then come back look at his offer sheet every year multiple high rated 4 star freshman contribute and with injury luck we need all the help we can get. Also stokes is the no 1 player in the country and only 1 guy you have to have 12 guys to field a team.

Rated best prospect from Tennessee- Was an Alabama commit - Has offers from USC - Tennessee- Auburn - South Carolina among others.
STOP HARSHLY JUDGING EVERYONE.
We’re not “judging” the player, we are judging the coach who is going to be wasting another season with him.

During the year with HS recruiting going poorly I thought we would hear about more Euro recruiting. Still may I guess but Arizona has some really tough mature guys from overseas. We got one but he was soft and poorly coached. Where is Scott Rigot?

Keeping and developing is the key, have to find guys that will tough it out. UT seems to have a great S&C program as well.

Watch the guy play and then come back and comment. You’re relying on another man to tell you how good a player is instead of making your own observation.

There’s not a magical number of 5 star players required to win. That’s a narrative pushed every single year by whoever wins it. If a team wins with a stud freshman, the narrative instantly becomes, “you have to have a stud freshman to win these days” and if an experienced team wins with no stud freshman it’s, “You have to have experience in today’s time to win”

In reality, just going by this tournament alone, you can win with experience and you can win with stud freshman but neither is a guarantee.

AJ for BYU will be an absolute stud in the NBA and the #1 pick and is watching from home.

Braden Smith is a senior, has done things the correct way and is playing for a chance at a final four.
The kid isn’t the issue here.
The current KY men’s bb coach is the problem.

Waiting until March to try to land recruits that graduate in less than 2 months should never happen at KY.

We should eat first. Not be stuck with leftovers.

The kid may work out but KY basketball should NEVER find itself in this position.

Pope is in over his head.

But I thought with this JMI deal we would have a huge war chest to buy get the players we need.

Not directed at you…. Simply a rhetorical question / statement.
