Disappointing season. Didn’t live up to the hype.

Bye, Gavin.

😞
Considering that they lost basically two thirds of their games from late January until the end of the season, and also lost almost every game that they played against other Tournament teams, it was an undeserved gift that they even got to play this game. They actually played a good game, but for whatever reason had no energy to impose their will after the first period and basically had to rely on counters, which actually helped them play better defense. However, this Duluth team is a one line team that’s nowhere near as good as Michigan or MSU.

This program now is going to lose most of its impactful players and it will be interesting to see how they reload or rebuild. Unfortunately, this team failed to capitalize on the Final Four appearance, which really could’ve set this program up as a consistent destination for future first and second round draft picks, which you need to compete in the Big 10.

I think Gavin pretty much did as the conference leader in points, but the rest of the team didn’t (especially defensively). A disappointing whimper to finish out the season.

During his in-game interview yesterday, Gadowsky basically admitted that PSU’s style is to play run and gun. It’s so obvious that this program lacks a defensive structure and the vast majority of the players neither can’t nor have any desire to play defensive hockey; just look at the poor defensive effort on Duluth’s first goal, which mostly was just lazy play.

For this program to be consistent Final Four caliber, they need to at least have two lines of bigger, more physical defensive minded forwards and several big, physical defensive defensemen who aren’t glory seekers.

Need the longer term view on the impact of making the Frozen Four. College hockey teams can be highly variable from year-to-year. For example, the team who beat us last year in the Frozen Four didn’t even make the tournament this year, and no one is thinking BU is in bad shape long-term for not following up a FF appearance with a good season this year.

The recruiting needs to continue to build on what they’ve done, especially in the Canadian major junior leagues. There are a lot of needs to be addressed, especially in light of how many goals this team tended to give up. But next year is another opportunity. Just like last year’s success seemingly came out of no where, you never fully know which year could be hugely successful with the right mix of players.

I agree with you. However, I just hope that the donors who paid for McKenna and others to come here keep spending the bucks to continue to bring in the same caliber players, and that they don’t become frustrated and stop. If the latter happens, and this goes for every program, they won’t compete for anything.

I expected (deserved 😞) better from PSU this year, but it could be worse. Look at MINNY. o_O .

The good thing is that there's a lot of cash available to mine the Canadian junior league even if it's one and done types

Like I said before, my analysis of this team back in January was 100% spot-on and correctly predicted where this team was headed. If you think that I’m wrong, just scroll back to the time at or around the MSU home series; those posts still should be there.

And if we would have won last night you would have been silent until we lost to Mich. and if we would have beat Mich you would have been silent until the next loss.

You want to act like you know much, but the fact that you said team was gifted with being in tourney and didn’t belong was dispelled last night. Until a really poor clear attempt and weird bounce they were tied with a really good NCHC team that you say is only one line shows how little you really know. You don’t really know much at all about college hockey. Even a blind squirrel like you gets lucky and finds a nut every once in a while. Doesn’t mean you are actually intelligent and knowledgeable.

In this NIL world, he may be back.

"In other news; Penn State goes from D1 hockey newbie to NCAA regular.

And for the record, I wanted you to beat Minnesota Jr (Aka lil northern brother). "They not like us..."

Stop gloating... even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally. You also wondered if we'd give up 6 or 7 goals this game. How about 1 thru 55 minutes.

Is Wisconsin the 2026 version of 2025 PSU?
I would say Denver, even though are a powerhouse. They were avg in first part of season, but since the season turned to 25, they have been on fire.

They will be a handful for Michigan/M-D winner. They are beating up W. Michigan right now.

They have the best coach in college hockey, and one of the best coaches at any level of hockey.

That does not have anything to do with in the comparison clown. They were just ok this season before 1 Jan 2026. Their season is much more of a mirror than Wisky’s to the question I answered. My answer and comparison to the question are both accurate.

And I acknowledged they are a powerhouse program.

Sorry comprehension is tough for you. But that is because you think you are the Don Cherry of college hockey knowledge when you are really a squirrel like Don Knotts.

I don’t understand your irrational, almost psychopathic reaction to my comment about what a great coach David Carle is. You have a serious problem if that comment caused you to make another ad hominem attack on me. I don’t even know what point you tried to make; you posted about how well Denver is playing and I said that they have a great coach; why in the hell did you have to post such an inane reply when I basically ageed with you?

That was a **** show min by M-D a few mins ago. Gave up a PP goal and shorty goal.
Like I said after they beat PSU, Duluth is a one line team that isn’t that good and Michigan now is dismantling them like I expected. A better team would’ve scored more against PSU on Friday night.

Clearly you weren’t actually watching the game because M-D almost came the whole way back and they did give Michigan everything they could handle. Michigan goalie made a few great saves in last couple of mins to stop them from tying it up. So you were not correct you pompous dumbass. M-D is a good team, were not dismantled (played 1 min of really horrible hockey and otherwise went toe to toe), and are more than a one line team.

Try actually watching some college hockey outside of PSU games, novice. You may learn something.

Congrats to Reidler and Dimarsico!

I believe Smith and McKenna will be back for one more year. I could see Cerrato and Laubach back too. If Wiebush is drafted I see him going, but if not, he’ll stay.

I believe we’ll see Fink get an entry level contract before next season as well.
With Cerrato I think it will depend if Canes want to risk him still getting hurt in college or getting him up to AHL.

Smith is coming back.

Gavin would be great, but Vancouver, Chicago, Calgary, Rangers are such crap shows, I think they will want him up. I’d love for it to be Chicago because I love their sweater. I expect it to be Calgary or Vancouver as long as they are top 2 picks after the lottery. As long as it is NOT NYR.
