Yea the money must be good good for Ellis to play for one of the lollipop guild.
That's speaking in absolutes. There is 100 percent a world where you tell him that you want him here but have to error on the side of caution because of his injury AND because we lose point guards at UK faster than Jasper losing the ball against defense. Make it clear the job is his if he wins it, but it would be irresponsible of you as a program to not bring in someone equal or better than him. Plus, everyone has a number. There is an NIL number that anyone would eventually agree to be PG2 or the towel boy regardless of pride. Finding out what that number is tells you whether or not to keep him as your PG2. You then know everything you need to know about his character and can move away from him and refuse to pay the money grab. That's why NIL negotiations with players are happening now, and agents next week. Well before the portal opens. Either Lowe is cool with being PG2, well paid, with the opportunity to win back PG1, or he is a free agent chasing a bag somewhere else. I'm fine with either.
You won't be able to lock him up unless you guarantee him he's PG1.
He has until the 21st the hit the portal so he can sit back and see who UK is actively recruiting.
I'm also going off comments his dad made that if UK didn't want him there was plenty of schools that did.
I interpret "want him" as being the starter not just on the team.
I'd say he's 100% gone if we add a top portal pg.
I'm not disagreeing. I'm saying promise Lowe PG2 with the chance to win PG1 and TRY and go get someone better. We have to bring in at least 1 more point guard anyways, preferably 2. He's going to have competition no matter what. Here's the number of NIL, here's the chance to be PG1 if you prove you are back healthy and earn it, or there is the door. If J Lowe is our promised PG1 next year we are cooked because that means we can't recruit or portal anyone at PG that is worth a crap. I also don't have much hope in Pope landing a stud PG, but that's a whole other discussion.
