What was Cael referring to about "the rules"?

Facundo -- maybe? Or maybe they let Routledge compete with him?

Ryder -- doubt it, he made the podium after all of those shoulder dislocations. Maybe a 1-yr competition guy. They also have top recruit Michael White (#1 nationally at his weight) incoming.

Doucet -- the plan is probably to run out Ross as a true FR. Maybe they would try to get a 1-yr HWT rental, but I don't know who that would be -- see the list of HWTs in the thread about Mirasola. We can safely rule out bringing Carroll back. Otherwise maybe they'd be a little less picky than PSU?

The other place that might make sense is 133, if they think Forrest is gonna move up and they don't think either Raney can make the weight. They don't seem sold on Ramirez. Though maybe Zinkin is ready as a true FR.
Zinkin wrestled 120 for his last two HS seasons. It will be interesting to see how his weight progresses in college. He is definitely tall for 120.

Yep it's that time Iowa st already has 4 guys lined up. 3 from Stanford 165 Cardenas 174 Garvin 184 Norman 197 Novak . Perry and Carr stay working. And they're not "on staff" grey areas I guess.

Perry calling himself a "individual citizen" after being fired by okiest and recruiting guys to Iowa St is just hilarious to me. And a smart play by both him and Dresser.

Guys on FRL seem to think Cael very meticulously runs a clean program

I was curious about the phrase Cael used "we can sleep when the wind blows". I never heard this before, and although I had a general sense of what he meant I looked this up. I found it mentioned many times, in a BYU speech and in this blog linked below. I like it both from a secular and spiritual standpoint:

Thanks for posting that. I also wondered what he meant when he said it and as it happens, I'm dealing with a personal situation presently where it's quite relevant and at least a little bit calming to me.

Explain to me.If a kid is in it for both the education and wrestling, how they would leave a premier school (Stanford )with very influential alumni for Iowa State.
The Stanford program is on the rise. I don't mean this to degrade Iowa State , it could be the same for almost any other school.
This is where the instant money must be enough of a enticement. Kinda of crazy and sad.

My suspicion is that a lot of 18-20 year old kids (or even 21-22) still aren't sure what they wish to do with themselves and school is a diversion to them (or a way to continue wrestling). When I was a sophomore, junior or senior in college, if someone would have said, I'll give you "X dollars" (let's say 500K in today's value), to transfer to my school for a year and to continue wrestling, it wouldn't have been much of a choice. I would have gladly taken the money and run (unless the destination was a true sh*t hole). Unless you're in a field and have ambitions where the quality of the education means a great deal, I can absolutely understand why the NIL money is such an enticement to the average college athlete.

My own story is a great example of this. As a 19yr old junior football player, I transferred from one of the top universities in the world to one that is maybe a top-60 public. My new school also had nowhere near the football program as did previous school. I was sick of the environment at previous school and also saw an opportunity to play more. Keep in mind, I was a 4.0 STEM student who was planning on grad school (I now have a PhD); a lot of student-athletes, even at elite universities, don't take the "student" part as seriously as I did. Didn't even take any money (because there wasn't any) to get me to transfer. You add in, what is to many of these young men, life-changing money and a lot of them will be on the first plane, regardless of how prestigious previous U was.

Novak isn't going anywhere he's staying at Wyoming now.
Things obviously change and Stanford did place ahead of Iowa St and the 4 Iowa st transfers failed to AA.

A farmer says “I can sleep when the wind blows.”
first glance sounds irresponsible but a deeper dive shows that when a storm hits, everything is already secured
the barn is secured , the animals are safe, tools are put away.

So, The farmer can sleep because he prepared ahead of time. Proper preparation produces results and shortcuts produce a ton of anxiety that can detract from the focus necessary for long term success

Oklahoma is widely known as the state where the "wind blows".

Here are lyrics from Hammerstein's song.

Where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain

Brantt on 247 claims a few schools have reported Oklahoma State to the NCAA for tampering violations (well aware it'll do nothing)

Penn State is not one of them but Iowa however is.
There's no quarter for that ****. I would love to know some of the specifics, but we'll never hear them.

Years ago the wife and I were standing in the aisle, waiting to deplane when she - out of the blue says, I can certainly see how the wind comes sweeping down the plane. Snickers by the other passengers....probably had to be there to appreciate. She is not overly verbal so that interjection was surprising and amusing. Cael's was directed at a target.

The truth is, this is not the first time Cael criticized the NIL and recruiting rules. I do think his post NCAA presser was directed toward approaching guys outside of the transfer portal, but he's also pointed out in the past that high school guys are being "compensated" by other schools.

States make NIL laws and in many high school kids can receive NIL. Starting this August when a high school kid enrolls he has 2 weeks to submit his high school NIL to NIL GO for approval.

I know this a lot more from the football angle, specifically because my stepdad is an assistant coach of a successful high school program. I believe it's now ~45 states that allow NIL for high school students, and I'm sure there's some backdoor stuff going on for the top recruits in the handful of states where it isn't allowed. Yes, there are teenagers out there - who have not enrolled in college - who are making more than you are in your career to play high school football and 7-on-7. I personally know a few of them.

I'd be curious how much of an issue it is in folkstyle wrestling.

Teams are doing it . The big name Oklahoma st guys had HS NIL . Many drive big Toyota trucks from a dealership in Oklahoma. Some teams are staying away from it because they can just walk away and enroll elsewhere

I know anything goes on message boards, including insult escalation. Just want to note that so many here like it when you stick to wrestling intel or insight. I personally think you bring a ton of both to the table.

Yup. I also learned that Corby helps kids with autism, so he’s now getting an almost permanent reprieve from any of my future snark.

It's something very dear to me as well. I was diagnosed with Asperger's (now, just high-functioning autism) about a quarter century ago, when hardly anybody had ever heard of autism. I've spoken at countless autism conferences, been a mentor for autistic teens for years (not at the moment, as I have teens of my own), and done a few clinical trials regarding dietary supplements and ASD in collaboration with a transitional school for autistic young adults.

My significant other Is a BCBA she's been working in the field for over 30 years . She worked with Dr Lovaas at the beginning. She's had articles written about her in the NY times and many other publications. Being around wrestling and coaching forever I enjoy helping people. Many autistic boys need male therapists because the dads are usually hands off or not sure how to handle it. The work is so rewarding and will put a smile on your face daily.

I think boys in general need more male mentors/role models regardless of how active a father is. Most schools are heavily skewed in terms of gender percentages for teachers - you need guys around who understand that most boys don’t dig “circle time”, that “roughhousing” is normal and not inherently bad, etc. My older boy’s main caregiver aside from me is a woman, but I have a substitute/fill in who is a big, black dude with dreadlocks. My son loves hanging out with him - funniest stories are when my son goes with him to their regular cookouts/reunions. My son eats ALL the foods and the aunties all dote on him.

I’ve got 2 boys with severe autism - non-verbal, need constant supervision, etc. They both lived solely with me for almost 10 years until mom took the younger one to live with her due to my older boy’s increased behavior issues. We only live 2 miles apart so not a big deal. That said, I am a rarity in that there aren’t many single dads who do this - it’s usually the mom who takes the heavy load. People like you and your SO who are there to lend support are ******* angels.

Corby - I'm curious about something, and since this is a wrestling forum, it's a valid topic. Do you think wrestling provides any therapeutic value for kids with autism? And how about kids (especially boys) with ADHD?

Thanks for sharing. You definitely understand the struggles and I appreciate parents like you who are involved and work as a unit. Non-verbal cases are difficult and challenging with most having increased behaviors from the frustrations of not being able to communicate. Do they use devices to communicate? I know we don't know each other but if you ever need to talk with someone or need a 2nd opinion about something feel free to reach out. Her life is autism 24/7.

Depending on where they're on the spectrum it definitely can and has .
For ADHD kids I believe it's a must nothing better then wrestling. I feel for kids today because the playgrounds and fields for pick up games are empty. Parents want to throw a computer to the kid and use it as a babysitter. We need kids outside playing and being kids not inside playing video games

We have a young family member with Phelan-Mcdermind syndrome. It is a defect or missing 22 chromosome. Non verbal and you can say his name 100 times and he wouldn't even notice. He would put his hand in the fire and do it again the next day do it again because he doesnt know he shouldn't. My son says man he was the wrestler of the 3 he has. What astounds me is the love and patience all these parents have. Truly amazing. Bad day at the office, yeah right. Sorry way off topic.

Welp, I'm pushing heavyweight. Might head to Stillwater, try to get myself a Tundra. As long as I don't have to wrestle.
