Do coaches really need nine timeouts?
They get 4...one of which doesn't carry over from the first half. And one of which is needed if you want to challenge a call. Seems like the right number to me.

What is the best way (most economical) to get tickets (2) to Friday's Sweet Sixteen games in DC?

I'd look to get them on secondary market (StubHub, Seatgeek, etc) on Friday afternoon as it gets closer to game time. Prices are over $500/ticket right now, but will likely come down some. But it won't be as "economical" as you might hope.

Thank you. Not too worried about the cost, just whether I decide to male it that late of a night!

Don’t forget the four TV timeouts per half as well.

Interesting that I think of Kentucky as having all this talent yet it seems their only standout is Oweh. The number of stars in the NBA who went to Kentucky is ridiculous. Not sure how or when they fell off from being one of the elites.
Heard some discussion that their bball NIL might be as high as $22 Mil but Pope (coach) is not spending on superior talent that UK used to attract. Agree that Oweh is the only player that is a throwback to the days of dominant UK players.

20 pt blowout losses in the 2nd rd of the Dance following basically a lucky win in the first rd is not what the natives in Lexington are looking for nor accept. I think Pope has to get them at least to the Sweet 16 in the next couple of years or he gone. He is a former player from their glory days so that may buy him more time than what they normally would give a coach performing like him.

Hubert Davis fired. 4 years removed from playing for the NC but I guess the trend is not good. Plus Duke is clearly better than them and I don't think that was the case 5 years ago.

Good guy, not a good enough coach for North Carolina.

My PSU related question is what does this mean for Dylan Mingo…he reopens his recruitment, and things get really interesting for us again (and you have to think he would with the coaching change).

Unfortunately, true. I don't minimize the run to the championship game, but... In totality, he coached the team that lost the largest lead in a final, the team that lost the largest lead in a Round of 64 game. Not just in the year it was played, but ever. In the "lightning in a bottle" year, they lost a 20-point lead to Baylor and needed overtime and a big corner shot to advance. The Syracuse game this year with almost blowing a 30-point lead at home. He ran the wheels off of his starters, playing only 6 in the 2nd half against an up-tempo team whle leading by 19. Coached a pre-season #1 team that faied to make the NCAA tournament.

As I've stated before, I've been a Carolina fan since the mid to late 70's. The past few years have been very difficult to watch.

Important hire. Situation similar to PSU football. Timing was different. But. like Penn State football, the UNC basketball job will get people to answer the phone. Where they go, who they end up with and how it works out? Only time will tell.

North Carolina will always be a blueblood. They will never go the way of, say, Georgetown or DePaul. (Life-long Hoya fan here.)

It's been a rough couple years and they've definitely not met expectations.
That said...had he handled the post game presser better he'd still have a job. I lost all respect for him after that. Probably a great guy but his ego was a problem.

The days of the small Catholic schools being relevant in college basketball basically are over now that most of the big football schools in the SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 decided that they also wanted to be big basketball schools. Of course, there always will be seasonal exceptions like St. John's this season or a Villanova under Jay Wright, but I'd be surprised if any of those schools ever wins it all.

Also, I wasn't surprised that perennially overrated Gonzaga, which is one of those small Catholic schools, lost last weekend; what was the average age of their team this season, 32? I wish that that school would just go away.

Probably shouldn't be bothered by it since never have a school and a coach been so made for each other, but...pretty shameful on several levels when you rehire the coach that got caught cheating and got your school sanctioned, and all of this happening while you still have a coach under contract.

NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan said in a news conference Thursday that he would "commiserate with [fans] in terms of feeling lied to. And I'd let them know that I'm as surprised as they are by what's gone on.

"As far as the resignation letter, it was an email that we received from his agent," Corrigan said. "I'm disappointed in how it went down. I really am."

Fixed.
