Make The Rabbit A Habit!

Sadly, I haven’t been there in years.

I have been to two other places on the list.

Connecticut: Louis’ Lunch: They way they broil the burgers with the onions makes for a flavorful & juicy burger. More places should serve burgers on toast.

New York: Paul’s Da Burger Joint: All of the decor makes it seem like a joke, but their burgers are fantastic. Sit at the counter if you can and watch them work. They just scoop ground beef onto the grill, salt & pepper, a light flattening to form a patty and covered with a metal dome to speed up the cooking.

Other thoughts……

Arizona: Harvey's Wineburger. Any place that cooks their burgers in wine can in no way be called a Hole In The Wall.

Florida: Three Burger Spot: Any burger served on a Krispy Kreme doughnut was most likely created by some hipster sporting a man bun and therefore cannot be a Hole In The Wall.

Montana: TR’s Burgers: Any place that uses a cutesy branding iron to brand their buns and serves their fries in a cutesy fake mini fryer basket cannot be a Hole In The Wall. Not to mention having a burger with fig jam, truffle aioli, bacon, Gruyere, and arugula. Seriously!?!?

When I was a young tyke we would drive my brother up to PSU for school and I always asked to stop there and never did and oddly never did during my time at PSU. When I moved back to PA from Texas and started going to games that was one of my must stops and to this day we stop at least once or twice...at least for when we go up for BW game. Often see a number of classic cars come pulling in. But that divider now between the north and south lanes has got to be an issue for them and other Duncannon businesses.

Went there often having grown up further up the Juniata.

It was the little things for me - the poppy seed rolls. The ketchup in those little paper cups The fries were also really good. I think they no longer do the poppy seed rolls - I guess they are hard to source. On the burgers, they also put the ketchup on the bottom and it is something I have done all my life as a result.

Sometimes there would be a few Amish folks there with a table, selling baked goods. That's where my wife discovered whoopie pies.

All the times I've driven past I never stopped in there. That changes with my next drive up to SC!
Yeah, I’ve never stopped at the Sunshine Gas & Grill. (That’s the formal name.) My wife and I were driving to Sykesville yesterday to drop off our daughter’s dog and when we drove through Sunshine I said for the love of god let’s stop there sometime and check off the bucket list.

Aren’t we supposed to drive to NC or wherever for Buc-ee’s burgers? Doesn’t Buc-ee’s do everything better? I hear their bathrooms are to die for for starters.

Stopped there a few times but over a decade ago and the burgers were fantastic. Can't eat bread any more so don't stop. The first time we stopped we didn't realize it was cash only and had to dig thru the ash tray and seats to find enough to pay the bill. Didn't have enough for tip so drive down to the old truck stop that had a MAC machine and got more cash to stop back and tip our server. I think they were only ever open on Fri & Sat? Sunday's I recall the lot always empty or a Statey sitting there waiting to nail someone in the 45 mph zone.

I've heard of it, and know it is "famous" ... but have never stopped there for a burger. Are they worth it?
Every “best burger in Maryland” article has Sunshine near the top. There doesn’t seem to be much debate. Like I said, I knew immediately who was representing Maryland. “Is it worth it?” Yeah, preponderance of evidence says so.
