"But, but, but a couple of months ago Jax was just a (19 year old) high school kid preparing for prom." Already hearing casuals say how despite only wrestling half a season he should win the Hodge for his "unprecedented feat." Mitchell clearly should be the Hodge winner.

I have a question.

The Hodge Trophy, sponsored by WIN etal, is apparently voted on by (1) fans, (2) former Hodge winners, (3) "selected media", and (4) a representative from each national wrestling organization.

Are the final votes ever publicly released (broken down by group and voter) or is the final decision cloaked in a big black box of secrecy?

They used to release the final votes. Then in 2021 they decided to keep it a secret so they could give the award to both Spencer Lee and Gable Steveson. That’s when it lost a ton of legitimacy in my opinion.

I would guess with about 99% certainty that Spencer was the true winner that year. But I guess we’ll never know.

Carter is a hard one to figure out. Once again, why voluntarily post something like this that pits two or three teammate Hodge trophy contenders against each other? It also could have the effect of further splitting the vote and allowing someone else to win. At least wait until the Hodge is awarded and then post your opinion. Color me perplexed.

He's probably buds with Josh and not so much with Mitchell and Levi.

Carter has always liked barr. 2 years ago he said he would be a multi time national champ

Yep, I presumed that might be "the reason" as well, but Psalm guy is right, why post that when both are/were your teammates? Thankfully, I'm not sure anyone really cares what Carter's opinion is and I'm pretty sure that nobody will vote for one over the other because of his opinion. I don't know enough about the criteria to know how much the Kerry Collins/KiJana Carter effect has on the final outcome (I know the fan vote is only a small portion), but if it is possible, the Hodge committee needs to figure it out and make it right. Every wrestling fan in the country recognizes that one or the other of Mitchell or Josh deserve this award, so either give it to both (there is precedent for that) or flip a coin and make sure that one of them gets it. And, in this case, Levi is probably more deserving than any of the other non-PSU candidates as well.

Average mat time of 4;35????

Holy sh....
And that is with his emphasis this year of working on top. Kudos to Jax, whose average mat time was only 3:54. I've never seen a freshman with such an offensive arsenal. I think his match with Davino shows how the top guys are going to approach wrestling him going forward. I actually think Marcus matches up with him even better than Davino, and that was one reason I was so bummed to see them not wrestle at the tournament. Escape in 19 seconds and us fans would have had that matchup : (

I agree that Blaze matches up with him the best. Jax top game is the problem though. Marcus needs to score early and take neutral. I do think Marcus can put up points on Jax because of the style Jax wrestles. He needs guys to come at him and Jax will definitely do that
