Where Bennerman ends up will be most revealing. Was he a bust who has to move down for at least a couple years or was there some mismanagement or other issue there and he’ll get other options?

He was a red shirt, right? Never played a game? At 7' he should be able to write his own ticket in the portal. If he thinks he'll be the third center next year, he'd be better off seeking a new home. Isn't Purdue graduating their starter and only have a 7'4" freshman?

We’re talking about Bennerman, right?

Assuming he does indeed move down for a year or two to develop, it will be interesting to see if he pops back up at a big boy in the future after he’s developed.

assuming that’s what happens.

I watched him in the exhibition game. He had no business being on the floor this season. Would have been malpractice for Collins to play him.
He’s very fortunate he didn’t play. Preserved a year of eligibility, potentially extremely valuable down the road if he develops into somebody who can command the NIL of a roster position on a P4 roster. High six figure plus value per year.

And no one really has film of him, so he can sell himself with little contradiction!

I'm not talking about the short term play. If he has to step way down to a small school after flopping this year, so be it (the whole point of this thread is I have no idea if that'll happen or not). But if he wasn't worth much this year and he has to spend presumably at least 1-2 years becoming a star on a smaller team before he can cash in... he's far better suited having that extra year on the end of the deal.

Guys are realizing it across football and basketball that those redshirt years are insanely valuable and you need to make sure to use them when you're still developing. You convert a low paid year into a potential extremely highly paid year.

I agree and it's also true that we have no idea what the inside basketball story is here. I'm just assuming that he'll try and move to the team best able to coach him to stardom, and his size is a very marketable asset while his lack of college tape might also benefit him, depending on how he's progressed since we saw him at practice pre-season.
