Maybe everyone already but me already knew this but after hearing 27 times that Jax Forrest was wrestling in high school a few months ago, I was very surprised to see that Jax Forrest is actually a month older than Marcus Blaze. Forrest must have been on a decelerated academic program.
I'm willing to bet that ESPN will not mention that during their finals coverage.

Right on cue.. Flo..

I don't get this sh**.

If you are already 19 in March-you were in high school after you should have been gone.

Dude, just audition for the second remake of 21 Jump Street.

Jax at least did reclassify and now is appropriately aged. Doesn't bother me. The coverage is obnoxious. Of all the amazing things you could go to about the kid, the highschool angle is the dumbest.

Then Melvin Miller, who will turn 19 the very start of his senior year. I like the Bassett's, Miller, and Forrest, and enjoy watching them compete, but I can't stand this prep redshirting nonsense.

Same. Not like Penn State hasn't had or doesn't have some guys that did it as well and it isn't the kids fault. But, I can still really dislike it.

+1 Duke and Blaze are also both old for college freshman. It's just the thing now. I've gone off about it a few times as my son (a 10yr old, 5th grade sprinter) is often competing against kids 2+ years (and a head taller) than him.

Duke may be a little technically but Marcus blaze is the exact normal age for college. He turned 19 his freshman year in college. He's just got a fall birthday. My son has a September birthday and due to the natural cut off he's gonna be one of the oldest in his grade.

My perception is likely skewed as I was 16 (turned 17 in the spring) as a college freshman. I didn't think my kids were young for their grades, but they're definitely younger than all their classmates.

Ya that's really just young for college freshman. The normal age is 14-15 highschool freshman, 15-16 sophomore,16-17 junior,17-18 senior then 18-19 college. Give or take. We're you super smart?lol

Same experience here. Parents on my daughter’s travel lacrosse team are dumbfounded when they find out she skipped a grade. They look at me like I have three heads.

I started early and then skipped a grade. I also graduated a semester early. I maxxed out size-wise as an 11yr old (was a 6'1" 200lbs. 11yr old, I'm a 6'1" 185lbs. 45yr old) so physical maturity was never a concern. I'm a moron, but academia was always easy for me.

Our son will turn 11 right before he starts 6th grade (so, he had just turned 5 when he started kindergarten). Our daughter just turned 14 a few days ago and is a freshman. Was never even a consideration to wait another year for either of them.

I did that sort as well. Grew to 6'2 in 8th grade but was an absolute string bean and ended up 6'3 but around 230. All my growth was filling out I guess ha. I have two other children that will be 17 until the spring of their senior year and I have no intention of holding either back. Wouldn't make sense to me.

I got all of y'all beat, @ 65 I put on 20 pounds and lost an inch in height.
I haven't measured my height in a bit. No doubt ankylosing spondylitis and disc degeneration has shortened me, just a matter of how much. My issue with the scale is not increased adipose, but the slow progressive loss of lean muscle.

I'm attempting to rest and PT my way out of (another) shoulder surgery right now, so no upper body lifting, BJJ, or Muay thai for a while, but I am training to rim-to-rim Grand Canyon in October. Super excited about how my upper body will atrophy and possibly being <170 by the fall.

Good for you on the Grand Canyon trip. I was out there 20 years ago and hurt my leg when my wife pushed me off the rim.

Are these kids being held back for sports or are they academically challenged?

I can fix that. Five years ago, when Ferrari made the infamous "665 pound deadlift comment", Mrs. Rebel looked at me and said "don't even think about it"...

Of course that night, I went and started deadlifting for the first time in at least 20 years. I managed 12 with 135 and topped out at 225.

Five years later, I'm over 60 and pulling 430-440.

My weight is down a few pounds.

Sports. They are all well-spoken and clearly pretty intelligent.

Then it's a parental problem. Had I had an extra year, I might have been able to demonstrate solid mediocrity in wrestling-of course my HS didn't have the weight room Penn State Hazleton did.

Who cares? He is a month older and much better. I don't listen to ESPN. I just enjoy watching good wrestling and that kid is must watch.

Penn State Hazleton?

What high school were you at. I graduated from Hazleton High School in 1978.

I haven't deadlifted (or lifted weights since 1984) I did put up some good numbers in competition from 1981-84, I did get into a dustup with Iron Turd about this in the Hawkeye forum a short time ago.
