165 QF - #1 Mitchell Mesenbrink vs. #9 Bryce Hepner (UNC)

Period 1:
Here we go again! Mesenbrink presses forward & shoots. Hepner rolls & is trying to come out the back. Mesenbrink has both his ankles. They keep rolling. Mesenbrink elevates. He leg is on Hepner's shoulder & the ref blows it dead for PD, restart. Mesenbrink drops in on a leg. Hepner rolls & gets a leg, then almost locks up a cradle. Mesenbrink keeps scrambling & squares up. Hepner has his ankle on the edge & is trying to drag him back in. Hepner pulls Mesenbrink back in a little. Mesenbrink kicks his leg free & tries to come behind, but they go out of bounds, neutral restart. Hepner shoots & gets a low leg. Mesenbrink gets to an ankle too. Stalemate & restart. Mesenbrink shoots off the whistle, gets to a leg, then works to a body lock. Hepner grabs the head & they go out of bounds. Hepner is down on the mat & they call the trainer over. This doesn't look good for Hepner. It appears to be a shoulder or neck issue. More people have come over to Hepner now. He's still down on the mat laying on his back. They seem to be stabilizing his head. Here comes the stretcher. This one is over.

Hold on, Hepner is back up now. Maybe he doesn't need the stretcher & they roll it away. I guess Hepner is able to continue. Mesenbrink shoots & gets a leg. Hepner locks around the waist. Mesenbrink spins & tries to come behind. Hepner counters & gets a leg. They're head to feet & time expires. 0-0

Period 2:
Hepner takes down. He rolls, but Mesenbrink stays with him & gets him bellied out in the center of the mat. The ref blows it dead for PD, restart. Hepner is still down. He pops up & rolls, but Mesenbrink hangs on to an ankle, then jumps back on top. Hepner rolls again & Mesenbrink almost catches him on his back. Mesenbrink locks up an arm bar & is trying to run it over. He does, but Hepner rolls through. Mesenbrink goes over 1-min of riding time, then runs the arm bar over again & locks up 4 NF, 4-0. Mesenbrink goes over 90-sec RT. He's pressuring heavily from top. Mesenbrink rides out the period. 4-0, Mesenbrink +2-min ish

Period 3:
Mesenbrink takes down. Hepner throws in both boots. Mesenbrink stands with Hepner hanging on his back. Stall warning on Hepner. Mesenbrink rolls, but Hepner stays with him. Hepner with a hard ride. He throws in a boot. Mesenbrink turns & gets the escape, 5-0. Mesenbrink still has 1:05 in RT. Tying up & hand fighting. More tying up & pushing in the center. More of the same to end the period. Mesenbrink & Hepner have words after the match. Mesenbrink adds a RT point, 6-0

Mitchell Mesenbrink DEC Bryce Hepner 6-0
