This is all so silly.

A serious offense with tons of finger wagging and pearl clutching in Alabama is just a normal Tuesday in Michigan, Ohio or even Missouri.

Just legalize federally, tax the hell out of it, regulate it just like the demonstrably worse alcohol and take advantage of a new revenue stream. This state could use it.

I won’t lie, I consume marijuana regularly. It’s much easier to drive to a legal state, stock up for several months, drive back and hope to not get caught than it is to mess with the black market plug who might have only one kind for months on end.

The fact that me driving to another state to buy some dried plant matter that I like to combust and inhale in the privacy of my own residence is treated like a serious crime in this state, but isn’t an issue at all in other states is dumb AF.

So it's legal to carry a pound in those states?

SO guilt by association of being the guys coach ? IF you can prove that Oats knew and was ok with the selling of drugs illegally then thats a different story
That’s the problem when you allow athletes to live off the dorm area hard to keep tabs on them but either way he’s a grown adult and made the wrong choice

I'm not going to say how much I grew last year but it was a sizeable amount and I ended up with less than 1/4 of a pound.

sheeeeyaatt at 19% THC for Durbin Poison, a pound would go a loooong way
I get 1/4 on each usually.. Getting half each is really easy but I'm too lazy to put that much work in to get that.. I have seen over lb on one single before.. Most of what I fool with is 20-26%.. I'd loved to have gotten 19% back in 80/90s 😂

It's pretty amazing what one 315W CMH will do. It's more than I can use anymore and friends get the surplus as gifts. I like the old Mexicans and Colombians; Malawi too.

Most likely no, with the disclaimer I’m not an expert in marijuana law in all 50 states. I know some states permit every adult to possess 4 ounces, and if 4 adults live together they can have a pound between them.

Most legal states allow you to possess anywhere from 4-10 ounces at a time. A pound is only 6 more ounces than 10, so it’s likely not that big of a deal in a legal state. A pound is a decent amount but not like a truckload full or anything.

A drug task force searched his home, not a cop that smelled something during a traffic stop. That tells me this is probably part of a lengthy investigation.
As for Nate Oats, his team’s history and his response, says everything about him and the program he runs… imagine what hasn’t been made public. The man is trash, IMO.
Yeah it was crazy he said we try to keep this stuff in house.. like really? You just cover up all the crimes of your players huh?

I get what you’re saying. I still see it as a dumb law that is chronically (pun mildly intended) outdated, especially the part about the tax stamp. As someone interested in the history of prohibition, I got a good laugh out of that.

That law had to be written prior to 1940.

I break the same law in Kentucky often and don’t harm anyone but me. I don’t smoke and drive. I don’t share my weed with minors. I usually do it in the comfort of my home.

It’s just silly to me that possessing 16 ounces of a plant can be a felony offense one place and you can grow the same plant in your house legally in another place, and both places are in the same country. As I said earlier, federalize and be done with the whole reefer madness thing.
Weed laws are stupid as hell. I honestly don’t care if he had 10 pounds but the law is the law and if he was searched by a task force, he must have been trying to make stacks off his NIL money in other ways lol.

I’m sure.

He’s a weed man on a college campus in a very backwards state. His business was probably doing well until the state seized his inventory.

Or someone just narced because narcs do that or they were pissed off at him, his girl, his dog or whatever. It's hard to believe someone with a good NIL deal would be selling but who knows?

I have no issues with personal possession. This numpty was obviously selling in the side and caught the attention of probably the Feds.

He’s a DUMBASS.

No way that’s all for himself. Dude was selling weed even though he’s making more money than most in NIL.

He should be locked up just for being that stupid.
I didn't see any scales listed in that twitter report.

Dude had it hiding in multiple places around his house. That’s not personal use. That’s a guy who knows he could get in big trouble if caught. Whelp.

Don’t have to have scales apparently in Alabama. The weight alone is enough to catch the trafficking charge. He’s toast.

Again. Agree or disagree with it but that’s the law in Alabama. And he broke it. Now he gets to use his NIL to get a good lawyer.

Presumption of innocence until proven guilty. You have no idea if it was for personal use or not.

Just possessing that much in Alabama catches you a charge. What's his defense gonna be? He was holding it or a friend?
That's still a crime under Alabama law. Even if that were true, they're gonna want his friend's name. And nobody is ratting their friend out there- sooooo....he's gonna catch the full possession. He got raided- that just doesn't happen for a little weed.

His only hope is to probably plea it down and catch a lighter sentence.

Yes, possessing 2 pounds of marijuana is illegal in all 50 states and under federal law. Even in states with legalization, legal possession limits for recreational use are typically much lower (usually 1–3 ounces), making 2 pounds (32 ounces) a felony amount for possession or intent to distribute almost everywhere.

Personal use or not....he's screwed man. Plus he had a prescription bottle that didn't belong to him (which could be as minor as buying someone one else's meds OR as major as forgery.)

Yes, but possession is a different charge than trafficking. You seem hell bent on crucifying the man for trafficking for some unknown reason.

It's still a serious charge, and a stupid law. The penalty is ridiculous. That's why jury nullification is a good thing, and if I were on that jury I'd vote not guilty.

Look at Terry Rozier, made 150 million off contracts and was betting on games to go count a few hundred grand at his house after it was done. It’s greed.

Kids might start avoiding states where pot is illegal if state officials keep pressing this. Doubt Alabama would care about basketball players, but imagine football players telling them they won’t go out of fear of going to prison?

So, how did he get raided? Is he going around bragging about having that much weed? Come on man.

I'm all for innocent until proven guilty, but don't pee on me and tell me it's raining.

Having that much weed is illegal in EVERY US state- and even if it weren't it's still illegal under federal law.

There all are kinds of ways you can be ratted out my friend. Someone that was in your house gets tapped for something? Rat you out for a lesser or dismissed charge, that there is number one. Pissed of because of jealousy or because someone was a jerk (real or perceived), that's another. There are many ways people can rat you out. It's why, if you are in a backward *** state, you keep your **** clean and fly under the radar. And if you're in a legal state, your keep your **** clean, too.

I know people that do it, I’m just saying it only takes one package in customs or a shipping port, or warehouse that gets sniffed by a dog /X-ray and you are done for. They can open it up and search it all too.

With the amount he had, he would be breaking the law in almost every legitimate country on earth. Even in countries that have decriminalized it for personal use, there are limits on the amount you can posses. There are countries where it's legal IF you have a cultivation/medicinal distro license.
So while Alabama is a backwards state, there's no legit excuse in most countries for that unless you're running a legal business.
