“sweet 16's and 14 loss season's aren’t our standard”.He did when he said “last year was a sweet sixteen season “ as an excuse to give Pope another chance. Sweet sixteens have never been successful seasons for this program.

Apparently they are“sweet 16's and 14 loss season's aren’t our standard”.
That and the large contract with guaranteed money did not help. He got complacent and lazy because he had that contract. If Arkansas gives him a contract like that, he would probably slide into retirement just getting by.What Cal is doing at Arkansas, he would have never done again at Kentucky. He had a rift between himself and the AD, as well as most of the big boosters. When the fans kept yelling for Cal to play Shep-Dilly-Reeves together, he became spiteful. That was the end of it.
As soon as he gets that big contract, he will quit trying hard like at UK. Coast and boast.Which is why Calipari had to go, he’s perfect for a regional program like Arkansas. They’ll give him a big contract extension over winnin the tournament he said is meaningless.
But Mark Pope? lol.
So you are admitting Pope was a lazy gamble?Have you seen a fanbase beg for anyone other than a HOF coach, and then immediately beg for anyone other than the replacement coach and get angry that they can’t go hit the slot machine again immediately? I’ve seen that one.
Well, we’re getting ready to add another blue hair in the lower bowl every year with top button Mitch getting his free tickets as part of his golden parachute retirement gig.Theyre kinda one of the worst things about this place. Sorry not sorry
Yeah, if he had been 13-21 instead of 21-13 and had a losing record last year, the points of termination would be stronger. But the fact that he has only been here two years makes it near to impossible to get rid of him at this point. If people think it was hard to get a good coach in here on the last search, imagine how hard it would be to get one now.I used to spend a lot of time on this topic but you learn over time that you can’t override what people WANT to be true. We are all prone to cognitive bias. I can lay out very clearly a detailed outline and demonstrate why Pope is getting a third year. However, if you don’t want a third year, what you are going to do is not accept what doesn’t conform to your premise. That’s how this works. It’s why I just agree to disagree with people on it. I can be cool with people who want Pope to jump off a cliff but I just have a different view on what his career at Kentucky has been — it isn’t a trainwreck yet, but year three will decide it.
58 to 78 20 years. 78-96 18 years. 98 - 2012 14 years. So 14+ years sounds about right. Know your UK basketball history.14 years ago. 14 FOURTEEN YEARS AGO
Bingo, you're not such an idiot after all.Depends on what you mean. Year one was slightly better than Kentucky average and he did it under unique circumstances. Year two has been a failure. We could debate all day about why. Part of that leads to why there will be a third year in the first place.
We will all be in more agreement a year from today if year 3 isn’t what it needs to be.
I still don't understand the logic of a 3rd year as if it's some common collegiate basketball standard. If this was his first coaching gig, then I could see giving him time to get his footing. But that's not the case. He is who he is as a coach. Now when you add that to the fact that we appear to have a dire recruiting problem, we are looking at putting our program in bad position on the hopes that Pope will miraculously turn it around. We will have people on here making the exact same argument after season 3. Whether it's Stoops or Calipari we seem to have some odd aversion to changing course when everyone can see the writing on the wall.I used to spend a lot of time on this topic but you learn over time that you can’t override what people WANT to be true. I don’t know about lazy gamble. So you are admitting Pope was a lazy gamble?
Kentucky should never be gambling on an unproven basketball coach panning out. I can fly a kite, but American Airlines isn't going to hire me as a pilot unless they are ran by fools.
Yeah and that was the ceiling. Beat two average teams and get crushed by a team they beat twice during the season wowNo you wouldn't have. I guarantee you wouldn't have.
If this is your mindset, stick to pumping out septic tanks and port-a-jons for a living. If you ever managed more than just 1 person (yourself), you would run any business straight into the ground.
You can't fire a coach that has had this many injuries and got the team to a sweet 16 last year yeah, sweet 16's and 14 loss season's aren’t our standard, but the second the injuries happened, all bets were off. Firing a coach in this situation, after only 2 seasons, is the worst thing you could do. You won't get another coach.
But you keep on throwing that temper tantrum like a child.
Just like paying your roofer in advance to fix a leak. Once the money is gone the incentive is too.As soon as he gets that big contract, he will quit trying hard like at UK. Coast and boast.
Funny you should post this. Had a lot of wind last night and again today and some of my shingles on the roof are coming loose and I just had them replaced last May. Going to contact contractor because there is a warranty on them.Just like paying your roofer in advance to fix a leak. Once the money is gone the incentive is too.
But you can dispute it. Shouldn't we see what he does when he doesn't lose 3 players to injury?Me too, but reality has shown hes kinda mid. Can't dispute it
My boy Cal? Try again. Just pointing out that he decided to start caring again, which is ****** because he gave up hereBut you can dispute it. Shouldn't we see what he does when he doesn't lose 3 players to injury?
Take 3 starter level players off any team and that coach is going to look terrible, I can promise you that.
I've said it several times on this board, but I need to say it again for the people in the back. This ain't a video game, or an action movie, this is real and when you take 3 of your best players away, you're going to suck.
Heck, some dudes on here want Sean Miller to get this job (), but look at the job he did. He didn't have an injuries and had a pretty damn good team, he almost didn't make the tournament.
Your boy Cal had an embarrassment of riches every year and he won one freaking title and we all know how his last 4 years ended.
Mark Pope probably isn't the right guy for the job, but we should at least give the guy a fair shake. Let's see what he does with a healthy roster. If Butler (shoulder) and Robinson (out) were healthy, we had a Final 4 caliber team last year, but injuries matter.
Half the NBA played for Cal and he has 1 title. He’s the very definition of a choke artist.I can tell you this, even my college basketball group of friends, none of which are Kentucky fans, would never think of Cal as a "choke artist". The call is coming from inside the house on that one. Ohio st 1 seed, the 5 game tournament run in 2014, never losing egregiously early in the tournament for almost a decade. He was as close to a 3rd round and beyond coach as you can get during his peak, he just ran into injury issues and his own undoing in the 2020s, where coincidentally, was when he finally had his two big tournament upsets.
Odd isnt it, that he seems already improved from those final few years. Hmm? Probably just entirely a coincidence
H
Half the NBA played for Cal and he has 1 title. He’s the very definition of a choke artist.
He had 8 NBA players on that 2018 team, including SGA and he lost to an awful K-State team. Choke job.
What he did just last year after leading by 16 in the sweet 16 is a choke job.
What he did in the 2015 final 4, was a massive choke job.
2019 E8 against Auburn, choke job.
2022 St Peters, choke job
2023 K-State, choke job
2024 Oakland, Choke job.
2010 Wva, massive choke job
2008 Memphis vs KU… choke job
You have to be kidding, Cal is the biggest choke job coach in the history of college basketball.
Oh goodie, another video gamer. When did Sweet Sixteens become the banner season for this program?
You’re not this stupid and clueless in real life are you?He did when he said “last year was a sweet sixteen season “ as an excuse to give Pope another chance. Sweet sixteens have never been successful seasons for this program.
Words of a true basketball Bennie. Sounds like a guy that didn’t play or coach any sport. A lot of words and says nothing but the same crap over and over.H

What's your standard when you get the job in April and you have zero players, zero assistants and your pg busts his shoulder, you lose your backup pg in November and you lose your best sf in February?“sweet 16's and 14 loss season's aren’t our standard”.
No Jaxson Robinson and the head of our snake (Lamont Butler) was playing with one good shoulder.Yeah and that was the ceiling. Beat two average teams and get crushed by a team they beat twice during the season wow
.You’re not this stupid and clueless in real life are you?
So what do you want? You hate Cal, you hate Pope, what do you want?My boy Cal? Try again. Just pointing out that he decided to start caring again, which is ****** because he gave up here
I posted that to show the other dude you said the opposite of what he said you were saying. What's your standard when you get the job in April and you have zero players, zero assistants and your pg busts his shoulder, you lose your backup pg in November and you lose your best sf in February?
What's your standard when your pg busts his shoulder before the season starts, your lottery pick center only plays 2 games and you lose your best stretch 4 for 2 months?
I can't wait to see your reply to this, because if you think a coach shouldn’t even miss a beat, it tells me you never played a single team sport at any point in your life.
Pope made many mistakes, but a lot of this stuff is out of his control and no coach is winning in the SEC with that many injuries.
I guess that's what next year is forSo what do you want? You hate Cal, you hate Pope, what do you want?
Shouldn't Pope get a fair shake? Don't you think it's fair to at least see what he can do with a fully healthy roster?
LOL, Cal never even got to 2 wins in some of those tournaments. Then what does that make Coach K once he went all in on One and Done recruiting with the Giles/Tatum class? He didnt win a single title since and he had the same monster classes that Cal had. Is he a choke artist?
I dont know why people keep thinking that inexperienced talent is just supposed to win 6 games in a row in a single elimination tournament.
The insinuation that the SGA we see today, is the same as the SGA freshman year in college is truly wild stuff. In the loss to to Kstate has 2 for 10 with 5 assists and 5 turnovers. Were going to put that ALL on Cal? Not even a little bit on a young and inexperienced player? OK lol.
Why not a 4th year, a 5th year, a 6th year?I guess that's what next year is for
“You just hate Pope.So what do you want? You hate Cal, you hate Pope, what do you want?
Shouldn't Pope get a fair shake? Don't you think it's fair to at least see what he can do with a fully healthy roster?
I'm laughing so hard at this. Who is a bigger choke artist than Cal? I gave you a list and you cant dispute a single one.Words of a true basketball Bennie. Sounds like a guy that didn’t play or coach any sport. A lot of words and says nothing but the same crap over and over.
I mean, i think ive made my feelings known. But the chances of Pope being gone after this year, how can you put that into a percentage of probability at this point? I mean I guess anything is possible but you can't really say whats going to happen as of nowWhy not a 4th year, a 5th year, a 6th year?
Pope is the next Hurley, Bugs
I realize that. I’m not gonna take the ******** from these pumpersI mean, i think ive made my feelings known. But the chances of Pope being gone after this year, how can you put that into a percentage of probability at this point?
What??? Not sure if serious. I believe you're trying to call me an a$$, but that's rich, you should reread your posts. You just don't like it when your posts are met with facts. Are this much of an ***
Sorry man, I misread your post.I posted that to show the other dude you said the opposite of what he said you were saying.
I came at you with questions, you called me retarded. Can’t stand the heat… etc etcWhat??? Not sure if serious. I believe you're trying to call me an a$$, but that's rich, you should reread your posts. You just don't like it when your posts are met with facts.
Right, but your posts don't say that.I guess that's what next year is for
Were you in a coma Calipari’s last 4 seasons here?Cal winning the SECT while we’re stuck in limbo waiting for our seed to be called in the tournament that’ll inevitably lead is to a 2 seed we can’t win should legitimately embarrass us. Even the media is laughing at how pathetic we are! They can somehow see what we cannot with Pope. But many of you lack the shame necessary to be embarrassed and will probably just double down on your support of Pope because you don’t know any better.
This year was shameful. Last year wasn’t exactly great either, considering we got blown out in both the SECT and the tournament
Im saying that as someone who has no stake in the decision to let Pope stay or go. I just dont think he's cut out for the job. My opinion.Right, but your posts don't say that.
I don't know why we have to be so miserable. i think we can all agree that this has been an impossible uphill battle for Pope. Sure, he’s made his fair share of mistakes, but the injuries we have had the last 2 years would bury any program and the SEC is no joke, especially ladt year.
Why can't we just he supportive and give the guy a chance to prove it in year 3?
