Cal winning the SECT while we’re stuck in limbo waiting for our seed to be called in the tournament that’ll inevitably lead is to a 2 seed we can’t win should legitimately embarrass us. Even the media is laughing at how pathetic we are! They can somehow see what we cannot with Pope. But many of you lack the shame necessary to be embarrassed and will probably just double down on your support of Pope because you don’t know any better.

This year was shameful. Last year wasn’t exactly great either, considering we got blown out in both the SECT and the tournament
It’s just basketball bud. No way in the world I’m letting something like this actually affect my mood or personal life lol. Especially when I’m not the one playing and even if they win the championship, when it comes down to it, I get nothing from it but a hell yea and maybe the chance to buy a shirt. Yea it sucks to have the team I support struggling but why stress it

I agree...You should be embarrassed. How many Mark Pope hate threads have you started now? No matter what you say 99.9 % of every else agreed it was time for cal to go, and still do. Lucky him , he finally got 2 NBA ready guards this year. Which is what he has to have to cover his coaching short comings. Mark pope may not be the guy but he need 1 more year. A healthy year. If it's the same old crap, then yes I would say time to let him go. You think we should instantly be able to build a championship team with NIL, but ignore the fact that JMI took over our NIL this year and no top recruit/transfer is willing to sign their BS contract. No one is happy with the state of the program but you are blame it all on a coach who has been here 2 years and both teams have been decimated by injuries and his recruits being hamstrung by a third party who should have no input or overstay all. It's the same 5 or 6 posters constantly making one negative post after another. Show a little respect, restraint, and intelligence. It's not that hard and you shouldn't be that miserable and trying to drag the rest of us down with you.
I've been logged out of this site for a while and didn't bother logging back in because didn't remember my password and didn't want to go through the rigamarole just to deal with all the negativity on here. However, I logged back in just so I could like this comment.

It still exists.
And it was still 14years ago. His last 4 years at UK still exist and most of that was way worse than pope has done and he had way more talent. Apply your own logic there
I clearly said “first of all” meaning at the beginning I wouldn’t have taken the job anyway. First implying go back to the start. Pope had no business advocating himself for this position, he wasn’t qualified and he knew that. So anything that happens after it, like being fired in year 2, is absolutely justified. Worst recruiting in history, first coach to likely lose a Nike kid to an adidas school in history, first UK coach to take Kentucky to Wednesday of the tournament. First time I’ve ever seen a Kentucky player who we advocated to stay leave for a program like Ole Miss. Mark is not fit for Kentucky or any elite program and the evidence is overwhelming. Given that fact yes firing him at the end of the year is warranted. He’s doing this during the NIL era where he’s got more money at his disposal than any coach in history before him.

13 years, 2 tournament wins (0 until until year 12), 63% winning%, zero conference titles, zero outright titles.

Yes an elite program is well within its right to make a move on that in year 2. Absolutely 100%. Does that answer your question? If I missed it again I tried.
You still completely skirted around answering my question and added in a bunch of your opinions while still ignoring facts. You clearly can't have a rational conversation. You are too biased and feel way too entitled. The me, me, me attitude is what is wrong with the world today. Try to think about things from other perspectives besides your own. It's not hard. Gets easier with practice and it will make you a lot less angry

Repeat your question. I average “50” responses every time I jump back and forth and I don’t shift around. I answer people and don’t always keep up with or re-read what is said. I was telling you “first of all” which is the point that matters. In the beginning….

I don’t get angry fella. I think you have a context problem. You seem to make a lot of logical fallacies and as we’ve seen cognitive bias issues. Projecting that back after I’ve already called you on it isn’t going to help you.

When he was at UK, Cal said the SEC tourny is meaningless. Plus, they only won because Florida and Bama choked. Cal is still a players first coach, and doesn't care about the name on the front of the jersey.

I want the boosters to be embarrassed. Buy Pope out now. Get him out of here right now. I’m sick of looking at him.
You don't have to watch another second this year if you choose not to. Pope isn't going anywhere, so either you don't watch and don't have to see him, or you choose to make yourself miserable. Either way, decision is on you.

Pope is going just not yet. By next season it’ll be about week 3 and he’ll be unanimous. I get people like the nice goofball girl dad routine (I don’t) but winning is the only way he’ll stay and to date that hasn’t happened to the UK standard. So yea right now you’re right but he will soon. We can’t assault great players and make them play for him when they’d rather have a real man coach somewhere else. Is what it is. Can’t recruit.

I’m not and the reason is number 1, Arkansas really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme. They aren’t going anywhere, they had a lane open because Florida threw the tournament. Everyone knows that. Florida is going for back to back. If that was Arkansas? Then okay. We f’d up bad. But Arkansas winning a boat show lane in the tournament Calipari says means nothing is actually hilarious.

#2, Barnhart had to watch that. Which is excellent. UK fans and I’ve spoke to a ton of them all want to move on from Barnhart, Pope, and this president. All are unpopular across the city and I’m sure the state. Anything that makes that happen faster, let’s do it.

Nothing a regional program like Arkansas does has an impact. And Calipari and Arkansas aren’t winning anything national so it’s irrelevant. Calipari is going to live or die with Acuff and there’s too many coaches who know what to do with that.
Same thing over & over he runs on offense, good coaches take advantage of his lack of coaching/adjustments. I love the fact the NCAA hates Cal so bad they sent him to Portland Oregon 🤣🤣🤣

What Cal is doing at Arkansas, he would have never done again at Kentucky. He had a rift between himself and the AD, as well as most of the big boosters. When the fans kept yelling for Cal to play Shep-Dilly-Reeves together, he became spiteful. That was the end of it.
Actually the year before I believe it was we had the most efficient lineup in the nation available and he refused to play them too. Don’t recall exactly who that was but we would get those 5 players for maybe 5 minutes/game on the floor together. Some will argue Cals too competitive to not care about winning but his ego takes precedence over winning. He’d rather lose his way than give in or admit the fanbase was ever right about anything. Hes still a smug prick I’ll never welcome back to UK.

I dont blame pope for this, I blame the powers that be. He shouldn't have gotten the job and its a disaster for all. Who's enjoying this, honestly
It is no fun, Bugs. At all. Like you, I believe Pope shouldn't have been the choice. He was put in a bad situation. Whoever followed Cal would have been. If it is true about his inability to close recruits, hampered by JMI, his wholesale changes during games, crazy lineups, and post-game disposition, the job is too big for him in my opinion. I don't want to see one of our own destroyed, but I'd much rather OUR PROGRAM not be destroyed. There have to be great basketball minds with UK basketball ties who know the right people to set up shop in Lexington for what college basketball has become. I wish changes could come faster than I fear they will.

GO BIG BLUE!

If Cal can win a final4 in a year or two with Arkansas, its definitely not going to be a great look for BBN and UK. How many times in sports history did an elite program basically boot the elite and proven coach, and he goes to a lesser school and continues to win at a pretty high level, while the replacement we get is nowhere near as successful as who we had? Not often.

Cal winning the SECT while we still look like we're not ready to compete for anything more than maybe a trip to to the second weekend, is definitely a new low for UK basketball. Happy for Cal though. And im glad hes been vindicated for some (not all) of the blame we gave him. If we were a little more patient and forgiving in the late 2010s, we might not have had the problems in the 2020s. Not to mention maybe getting rid of that sad sack Mitch first should have been the move. Things could be a lot different now. Flame away.
Did you see how they got bent the **** over at Florida? Auburn beat them by double digits & we even beat them down there & I guarantee Cal actually watched film then when he usually doesn't lol. Yeah, they have the talent but he's still the ultimate choke artist coach. He gift wrapped 2 titles to Uconn alone with his in game coaching, not to even mention his stupidity against Wisconsin minus Tim Higgins.

I can tell you this, even my college basketball group of friends, none of which are Kentucky fans, would never think of Cal as a "choke artist". The call is coming from inside the house on that one. Ohio st 1 seed, the 5 game tournament run in 2014, never losing egregiously early in the tournament for almost a decade. He was as close to a 3rd round and beyond coach as you can get during his peak, he just ran into injury issues and his own undoing in the 2020s, where coincidentally, was when he finally had his two big tournament upsets.

Odd isnt it, that he seems already improved from those final few years. Hmm? Probably just entirely a coincidence

Why in the hell should I, or anyone else feel embarrassed?

It's a freaking GAME!

I'm just a spectator who sits back and observes with hopes that the team I root for wins.

Anyone with a job, a family, religious beliefs, friends ect that lives and dies with a game that involves kids throwing a leather ball through an iron hoop, needs to re-assess their priorities.
I definitely have gotten this way the older I get. In my younger days I'd be upset for a week when we lost. Now I just enjoy the victories and shrug off the losses. But it was the 2015 loss to Wisconsin that broke me. I haven't been the same since and honestly it's for the best.

Not sure how one can laugh at this. In year two of Cal, they won their first conference title since 2000. We haven't got to the SEC Finals since 2018. Obviously not the easiest thing to do.

We will get bounced first weekend. They have a chance at being there in the second weekend.

Mashburn and I can safely say this, is the best basketball player I ever witnessed play for Kentucky. His game, his demeanor, the way he carried himself on and off the court, the absolute best I’ve ever seen. Go to YouTube type in Kentucky-Arkansas SEC Tournament 1993. Watch the first 6 minutes.

Okay. And who was the coach of Kentucky from 2018 to 2025?

Cal said numerous times he didn’t care about conference tournaments and that they’re useless and need to be done away with.

He was washed here and would have continued to be washed here. He’s not winning another title so he can have all the conference tournaments he wants. In his own words, they mean nothing.

Nothing new here. I have been embarrassed by the teams and coaches the past 10 years. The downward spiral continues and will pick up speed next year.

Let me tell you what's embarrassing:
-Losing to St Peters w/ a loaded roster
-Losing to Oakland w/ a loaded roster
-Losing twice to K-State with loaded rosters
-9-16
-Losing at home to Richmond
-Losing at home to Evansville w/ a loaded roster
-Losing at home to UNCW w/ a loaded roster

I have no idea why any UK fan would be embarrassed because Arkansas won the SECT. We heat Arkansas in their house and we beat the snot out of Vandy just a couple weeks ago, Arkansas struggled with them.

Also, at least our losses to Florida weren’t blowouts, Arkansas got their stool pushed in by Florida.

If you're embarrassed, that's a YOU thing. Go be an Arkansas fan.

Why should I feel embarrassed? I didn’t hire Mark Pope . And I don’t know one single fan that was advocating for Mark Pope to be hired .

Now if you had said ANGRY……then yeah, I agree with that.

Mitch is the one that should be embarrassed. But he’s getting a million dollar a year made up job so he’s probably feeling okay.

Pope doesn't need one more year if it were up to me we would've made a change mid season even on an interim basis to shake things up and try to motivate the players some cuz clearly they've quit on him
No you wouldn't have. I guarantee you wouldn't have.
If this is your mindset, stick to pumping out septic tanks and port-a-jons for a living. If you ever managed more than just 1 person (yourself), you would run any business straight into the ground.
You can't fire a coach that has had this many injuries and got the team to a sweet 16 last year yeah, sweet 16's and 14 loss season's aren’t our standard, but the second the injuries happened, all bets were off. Firing a coach in this situation, after only 2 seasons, is the worst thing you could do. You won't get another coach.
But you keep on throwing that temper tantrum like a child.

Go be an Arkansas fan. Cal quit on UK and kept losing to 15 seeds in the tournament and in Rupp. Hadn't won a tournament game in 5 years, but you're pissed at Pope. Makes zero sense. Cal embarrassed us more than any coach not named Eddie Sutton.
