Does um go out of their way to wear hideous uniforms (in all sports)? When are they going to realize that the maize horse-a$$ doesn’t work? For f*ck’s sake.

Sadly you know BCS is licking his chops to post and be his typical DB self.
I actually wasn’t going to post because I’ve already said everything that I need to say about this team. I’ll admit that I was wrong about the Minnesota game, as I thought that they’d lose that one too. The only thing that I’ll say now is that after they lose this game, they would’ve won one out of nine against Michigan and MSU this season; that’s absurd.

Penn State turned out to have a good team but not one of the elites. With recruiting wins unlike we’ve seen before in addition to coming off a Frozen Four appearance, it was not unrealistic to have high expectations of this team. Keeping the puck out of their own goal, unfortunately, became a big limiting reagent for their season.

Hopefully they still have some games left to play. If they do, then my reasonable expectations remain the same: they can probably win the first game, but less likely against a team in a regional final.

Down 2, PSU pulled the goalie with @ 2 minutes left. Michigan scored an empty netter with 0:30 left in the game, to account for the final score:

I agree with your post. The fact that they won one out of nine games against Michigan and MSU may have been tolerable when this program first started playing D-1, but not now with a team that has several players on it who either have been or will be drafted, including a first rounder last year and a first rounder this upcoming summer. This season since the MSU home series has been a big disappointment, and I know that injuries have been a factor but all teams have them. They ended up going 4-8 in their last twelve games going back to the MSU home series.

This program under this head coach needs to concentrate a lot more on defensive structure, because it never has been a strength and it stuck out like a sore thumb this season. While I also don’t believe that this goalie tandem was that good, they often were the victims of incredibly poor defensive coverage and just a lack of wanting to put in the effort to play defense. In general, I just think that this was a poorly coached team this season.

I don’t think that this team should be in the Tournament, and if OSU pulls out a miracle they definitely won’t make it. However, my guess is that if OSU doesn’t win the Big 10, then the committee will want at least three Big 10 teams in the Tournament for obvious reasons, so it will come down to PSU or Wisconsin; I actually think that OSU right now is better than either of those two teams.

^ There he is. I’m sure you couldn’t wait.

is no committee. It is NPI. 16, 15, 14 , etc. get knocked out based on conference champs not in top 16.

You clearly do not know as much as you claim.

Go cheer for Michigan or MSU.

I know enough about hockey from watching it since I was like seven or eight years old to have analyzed this team perfectly weeks ago. I could see that they had major issues that were going to be exposed and, what do you know, they certainly were exposed beginning in late January. Also, you posted last week after the Wisconsin debacle that they might have to win at least two Big 10 playoff games to make the Tournsment. Well, they didn’t; if they make the Tournament, it will be by the slimmest of margins.

We all know and have known they have some issues. The problem is you don’t ever show up after Ws or ever have anything good to say. You only show up to be a negative a hole. How about you act like a true fan and enjoy the good and roll with the bad. Good fans don’t show up just after bad outcomes and act excited to blast the team. This defines you. Good - disappearing act. Bad - act gleeful to post and act like a know it all.

Using the NPI heading into the conference playoffs (which, as @WVilleLion23 correctly has mentioned multiple times, is what is used):

Michigan would be the #1 seed
MSU would be the #3 seed
PSU would be the #9 seed
Wisconsin would be the #12 seed

in the NCAAs

Ohio State is #21 in the NPI. Ohio State's win over Wisconsin in the B1G tourney should bump up their NPI, and lower Wisconsin's NPI. Will the aforementioned move enough that Ohio State makes the tourney and Wisky doesn't? That seems unlikely, unless Ohio State beats MSU tonight in the semifinal and, even that would probably not be enough to boost their NPI enough.

Will PSU make the tournament "by the slimmest of margins?" 16 teams make NCAAs. The determination of which teams are in is a combination of those that win their conference's autobid, and the NPI. Getting into the tournament with a NPI of 9 is hardly getting in by the slimmest of margins.

Do we think he‘s one and done at PSU?
99%, yes. The NHL team that selects him will do one of three things. Bring him up right away, have him go to AHL so they can bring him up, or the very very very slim chance they say, we want you to spend 1 more year there since it is good competition. That option has to only be about 1% though.

Vancouver and Calgary are such **** shows, I think they will bring him up. I would love to see him go to Flames instead of Canucks.

Penn State needed this. It will show other top 10 type recruits/picks they can come here and not have it harm their development or status.

Coming into last season there were a few things that I felt program needed:

-Regional Champ/FF appearance -check
-Natty
-Top 5-10 pick - soon to be checked
-Player from PSU that has an actual NHL career -TBD but unless serious injury or just flat out not living up to expectations, should be a future check. Smith should hopefully be another one and maybe someone like Cerrato
