I don't think you watched any games this year. Good coaches practice hard, and change things in practice. Or maybe you can't comprehend the nuance and the other side of the coin with your one dimensional thinking.
Yes during the season you go hard a lot more. Day before a tourney against a team you have already played you are not going hard. Also where you practice isn’t important because you will shoot in that arena tomorrow. I have played college ball and have friends who coach it. I also have watched every game. Why didn’t shooting in the arenas help us all year?

He's making a mistake here. It shows how wedded he is to analytics and is going, as usual, with what some statistics suggest. With the schedule of all things?!

Maximizing his player's time to familiarize themselves with the environment would seem to be the 'common sense' approach. But common sense and intuition seem to regularly take a backpack seat to statistics with Pope. I want him to succeed but he keeps showing himself to be too inflexible and stubborn to thrive. Or maybe he just doesn't trust his own judgement. That would be a career killer.

We thought we got rid of the stubbornness and lack of changing their ways with Cal. Nope, just got a different version of it =\

So why didn’t we shoot good last time in that arena? Y’all really making something out of nothing. Never thought where you conduct a practice would turn people into crazies.

sometimes it’s good to go against the grain of what everyone else is doing, other times you’re shooting yourself in the foot for no reason. I don’t think this is a make or break thing, but every move Pope makes right now will be scrutinized

So 7 of the 8 teams are going to practice in Bridgestone Arena but Kentucky.

Article

“We just wanted to reproduce the schedule of the day as best we could. So, we couldn’t do that with our slotted time there. And so this is — it also recreates our normal travel schedule. So we’re just trying to have our day before the game be as close in proximity to what we’ll face tomorrow as we can.”

“We’ve recreated the schedule. It’s just what we always do, trying to recreate the schedule. So, we had film at the same time we’ll have film tomorrow morning. We’ll start practice at exactly the same time we tip off tomorrow. And do pregame, just to kind of keep that whole routine the same, just to do the most we can to get the guys’ clocks adjusted.”

I am not sure what to think about this. But the last time we were there we shot bad. However, maybe Kam Williams will practice and play? I don't know.

What do you guys think about this?

What analytics would tell you not to shoot around in an arena where you got blasted by 35 earlier this year?

lemmings have better instincts than our ball coach
Reproduce the same schedule??? seems like we need to do something different... the status quo is not working for us.

Is dude mental???? lmao......
The stress of this place led Billy to drinking it must be pushing pope tword a straight jacket.

Yep let's go into a gym without even getting any time on the court. It's definitely not like we have offensive issues anyways totally don't need to practice in a unfamiliar arena.

Also why are we trying to recreate the schedule FFS obviously our schedule now isn't a winning one so something needs changed.

It’s another lost season. Should be used to it now. 6 years in a row of irrelevance. Actually has seemed mostly like a chore watching them the last number of years.

Expect our players to not be prepared to play in a stadium setting. Airballs galore!

In all seriousness why? Pope, there’s no reason not to practice. All of March we will be playing in stadiums.

The longer mediocrity continues the more likely fans simply don’t come back. Older fans giving up on the program that no longer lives up to their expectations while younger fans never get to see Kentucky’s greatness. If Kentucky loses their fans that’s all she wrote for the program.

Cal used to do this crap in his last few years. We're tired of it.

A practice in an arena doesn't guarantee a good shooting night. But it also doesn't help you either. Gives you to get a chance to get a feel for the the floor that week, refamiliarize yourself with the arena, shooting angles, lighting, etc.

It's a bit different from football fields, but even college and pro teams usually get to practice in arenas and stadiums for postseason games.

If you're given the opportunity...YOU TAKE IT.

You're having one of the worst season in UK history in the SEC. You take every opportunity you can get.

RIGHT?! I'd get it if we were undefeated or something and you don't want to buck the trend or routine. But LOL.

There is no way. They practiced in it before the game and ppl on here say that helps shooting
I can't hurt that's for sure. If it didn't, let's not even do warmups or shoot arounds. Let's just go out there and do it on the fly.

It's the same reason when bands or other musical groups get to do a rehearsal in the space their gonna play. To get used to the setting. Lighting, spacing, everything can feel different.

The fact some of us are going "Meh. Doesn't matter." shows exactly where we are and why things need to change soon.

You do realize they will shoot in it today before the game correct? They will get plenty of time to shoot before the game. Also they can practice longer if stay at Kentucky oppose to a set time in Nashville.
