Yes during the season you go hard a lot more. Day before a tourney against a team you have already played you are not going hard. Also where you practice isn’t important because you will shoot in that arena tomorrow. I have played college ball and have friends who coach it. I also have watched every game. Why didn’t shooting in the arenas help us all year?I don't think you watched any games this year. Good coaches practice hard, and change things in practice. Or maybe you can't comprehend the nuance and the other side of the coin with your one dimensional thinking.
They’re still practicing Lexington but yeah this beyond stupid to me.How anyone can say not getting in some shots when you can is the right call is beyond me.
We thought we got rid of the stubbornness and lack of changing their ways with Cal. Nope, just got a different version of it =\He's making a mistake here. It shows how wedded he is to analytics and is going, as usual, with what some statistics suggest. With the schedule of all things?!
Maximizing his player's time to familiarize themselves with the environment would seem to be the 'common sense' approach. But common sense and intuition seem to regularly take a backpack seat to statistics with Pope. I want him to succeed but he keeps showing himself to be too inflexible and stubborn to thrive. Or maybe he just doesn't trust his own judgement. That would be a career killer.
Then let’s stop paying him.I honestly think he knows this season is more or less over, and doesn't care.
So why didn’t we shoot good last time in that arena? Y’all really making something out of nothing. Never thought where you conduct a practice would turn people into crazies. He's making a mistake here. It shows how wedded he is to analytics and is going, as usual, with what some statistics suggest. Well, these are the bottom 8 teams. None of them seem to have things figured out.So every other team is wrong and only Pope is right?
So 7 of the 8 teams are going to practice in Bridgestone Arena but Kentucky.

“We just wanted to reproduce the schedule of the day as best we could. So, we couldn’t do that with our slotted time there. And so this is — it also recreates our normal travel schedule. So we’re just trying to have our day before the game be as close in proximity to what we’ll face tomorrow as we can.”
“We’ve recreated the schedule. It’s just what we always do, trying to recreate the schedule. So, we had film at the same time we’ll have film tomorrow morning. We’ll start practice at exactly the same time we tip off tomorrow. And do pregame, just to kind of keep that whole routine the same, just to do the most we can to get the guys’ clocks adjusted.”
I am not sure what to think about this. But the last time we were there we shot bad. However, maybe Kam Williams will practice and play? I don't know.
What do you guys think about this?
Cal could watch Little house dvds in his office at memorial while the team practiced.Pope has practiced more in Rupp. Cal never did for some reason.
What analytics would tell you not to shoot around in an arena where you got blasted by 35 earlier this year? He's making a mistake here. It shows how wedded he is to analytics and is going, as usual, with what some statistics suggest. With the schedule of all things?!

It’s winning time!"Let's keep doing what we do and expecting different results." - Mark Pope
I can’t believe I miss Cal, but I would gladly take his BS over Pope’s. At least he earned it by winning a title.Cal could watch Little house dvds in his office at memorial while the team practiced.

Reproduce the same schedule??? seems like we need to do something different... the status quo is not working for us.lemmings have better instincts than our ball coach
The schedule we've been practices usually entails showing up about 5 to 10 minutes after the game has already started.Reproduce the same schedule??? seems like we need to do something different... the status quo is not working for us.
There is no way. They practiced in it before the game and ppl on here say that helps shootingThey laid bricks in that building three months ago.
Started out like 2-19
The longer mediocrity continues the more likely fans simply don’t come back. Older fans giving up on the program that no longer lives up to their expectations while younger fans never get to see Kentucky’s greatness. If Kentucky loses their fans that’s all she wrote for the program. It’s another lost season. Should be used to it now. 6 years in a row of irrelevance. Actually has seemed mostly like a chore watching them the last number of years.
Cal used to do this crap in his last few years. We're tired of it.So why didn’t we shoot good last time in that arena? Y’all really making something out of nothing. Never thought where you conduct a practice would turn people into crazies.
You're having one of the worst season in UK history in the SEC. You take every opportunity you can get.sometimes it’s good to go against the grain of what everyone else is doing, other times you’re shooting yourself in the foot for no reason. I don’t think this is a make or break thing, but every move Pope makes right now will be scrutinized
RIGHT?! I'd get it if we were undefeated or something and you don't want to buck the trend or routine. But LOL.Reproduce the same schedule??? seems like we need to do something different... the status quo is not working for us.
I can't hurt that's for sure. If it didn't, let's not even do warmups or shoot arounds. Let's just go out there and do it on the fly. There is no way. They practiced in it before the game and ppl on here say that helps shooting
You do realize they will shoot in it today before the game correct? They will get plenty of time to shoot before the game. Also they can practice longer if stay at Kentucky oppose to a set time in Nashville.I can't hurt that's for sure. If it didn't, let's not even do warmups or shoot arounds. Let's just go out there and do it on the fly.
It's the same reason when bands or other musical groups get to do a rehearsal in the space their gonna play. To get used to the setting. Lighting, spacing, everything can feel different.
The fact some of us are going "Meh. Doesn't matter." shows exactly where we are and why things need to change soon.
