You think he would have learned in the military that tail chasing was gonna end up getting him fired in civilian life

I admire the guy admitting to it and resigning. That's rare nowadays. More and more people would deny, deny, deny and refuse to leave. Taking any sort or personal responsibility is seen as weakness.
I do not understand this deny deny deny mindset.

About halfway through my career I was riding high in faculty governance and then screwed up badly. People told me not to apologize because then I’d be done but I did apologize, never regretted it. Yeah, my career as a faculty governance big shot was ruined but no regrets.

Good for you. A clear conscience is invaluable and it was an example of your high character. I wish there were more people in society like you.

It helped that I could concentrate on teaching math full time. God, I could lose myself in that, loved it. I was damn good, too.
Late in my career I was offered a position in the administration, would have been good money, really bump my pension. My wife said absolutely not, that I’d hate it, would regret it every day, that I loved teaching too much to give it up.

I am disappointed that we don’t have details. Boring business deals or bawdy scratch my thing and I will scratch yours.

Interesting detail I was not aware of on Wexner. Wexner was allegedly close to Strauss in addition to Epstein. Wow if accurate.

As my wife always says 'these stupid men, they actually think the hot woman is interested in them for their looks' dopes! Says it every time one of these captains of industry (in their own mind) get caught abusing their position for sex.

I think we need to regulate the blue pill use among seniors.

Same with me. When one of our deans resigned, our provost called me in and asked if I'd be interested in the deanship. No way. I loved what I was doing (teaching math and computer science) too much to leave it. Asked her if as dean I could still teach atleast 1 class per semester, when she said no, I said No, not interested.

Did not know that, Herbie.

Math people are good at writing clear memos, we can explain what needs to be explained clearly and quickly, saves a lot of time. We get **** done.

The math department where Herb and I worked, we were the only department where the faculty got along with each other, pretty much. You see movies about all the drama in college faculty departments, believe it. Just not in math.

Not sure if I told you but my dear departed Dad was former Dean of Math and Science at largest community college in New England. He always said the biggest problem with education was the further away you get from the kids the more money you make... and he said the second worst was tenure :)

It sounds like you have a great wife. Sometimes a spouse really needs to weigh in on a career decision, because they see your situation from a different perspective than you can see it yourself. Good on you, LionJim.

As a retired teacher, let me give you a 3rd problem, especially in K-12 education. Professors of education do not teach kids. Many became professors because they do not want to deal with K-12 kids. This results in education courses that are very ineffective.

I believe that to some extent.

My daughter, who like me is also a math professor, while at Notre Dame and now at Northwestern has been involved in something called Math Circles... these are enrichment classes in mathematics for kids aged 3 to 18.She really loves teaching mathematics at all levels, unlike some of the professors in education.

So, he threw it away for a basic Karen.

Great. Dumb, arrogant men.

He should have stuck with his wife.
