Big Ten Coach of the Year - Tom Ryan
Fresh of the Year - Ben Davino
Wrestler of the Year - Jesse Mendez

PJ did win the MOW for the Tournment win a Maj Dec of the Returning National Champ.

Penn State Hate is real!

Tom Ryan made excuses when Ohio State lost during the season, saying they had three top kids out and if they wrestle it would have been different. He is right, during the dual meet PSU scored 16 point at 149, 157, & 174 (TF, Fall, TF) but this weekend against their top ranked guys Shane, PJ, & Levi only scored 13 points (Fall, Maj, & Dec). So the score would have been 33 - 5 Nittany Lions.

Enjoy your Coach of the Year Award Tom because PSU won the Team Trophy.

The Coach of the Year thing really is a joke. Cael’s team won the regular season championship, the BIG tournament championship, had 7 champs, set the consecutive dual meet winning streak record( which is going to go up next year) and outscored his Competition by a mile, but Tom Ryan is Coach of the Year??? They must have this confused with figure skating and the Russian judges were involved. But seriously though, this is why I hate things that get voted on or judged; often times the most deserving person gets screwed. If they really looked at the results, it’s not even close. Cael should’ve won, not that he really cares, but he should’ve won. Anyone saying otherwise is full of $h!t.

MM leads Mendez in Bonus % (100% to 86.4%), Dominance factor (5.18 to 4.86) and Falls (8 to 6), so that must be why the coaches chose Mendez : ). I would also go PJ Duke over Davino. Both only have one loss, which both avenged. Duke majored the reigning National champion and has the fifth highest (at least prior to this weekend) Dominance factor in the country.

As far as Coach of the Year, I guess Ryan can have his participation trophy. Considering it is the coaches who vote on these awards, the results are rather silly.

To add on to that Davino lost to a freshman ( obviously we know how great Blaze is but still a freshman). I guess losing in SV to a national champ than avenging the loss by majoring a NC holds less weight than losing to a freshman.

Ryan deserves the Hertz award. We're No. 2 and we like it that way.

Next year he loses Mendez, Kharchla, and Bouzakis' cut gets even harder.

Penn state crowned 7 champions and just beat the big ten all star team 28 to 9 (12 at worst since Davis didn't wrestle Mendez). How did tan tom get coach of year?
How did Davino get freshman of the year over PJ Duke?

How did Mendez get Wrestler of the Year? That belongs to Messenbrink with Barr being in the discussion over Mendez.

Only answer to above is they wanted to give awards to anyone other than Penn state (as championships and dominance ratings speak for themselves).

Duke and Blaze are TRUE FRESHMEN. Davino is a redshirt. Why doesn't anyone factor that into the equation?

I guess you have to search for things to ***** about. Must be nice.
This statement would be true for a lot of opinions on this board. Not this one. Seven champs and no coach of the year, 100% bonus x2 and no wrestler of the year. I would expect every and any fanbase to point out the absurdity.

The coaching award to Ryan is like giving another golfer on the PGA Tour an individual award in 2000 other than Tiger Woods. Absurd is the only word.

Mario Lemieux- one of the greatest hockey players ever but playing at the same time as golden boy Wayne Gretzky- used to say that the only awards he cared about were scoring titles and Stanley Cups because no one voted on those. I’d guess that Cael probably sees things similarly as it relates to individual honors.

My thoughts.
Knowing Sanderson he's not that concerned about his award.

However he has commented how the Hodge is not fair when a team has 2 great wrestlers, it splits the vote.I would think he thinks that isn't fair because of the PSU high end talent. Maybe the same thing happened to the PSU wrestlers for Big 10 awards??

I'm certain he feels bad for Duke. He deserved the award by avenging his lost by putting a beat down on a returning National Champ. I pity the 157 class at Nationals with Duke out to prove a point.

Yeah, the whole notion of Cael being pissed off about this is hilarious. 100% fans imposing their beliefs on the program.

This weekend was not the goal. It was a necessary step toward the goal, but not the goal.

So what if somebody else won awards for Not The Goal. Why would Cael get bothered about something so trivial?

Agree, the B1G coaches are sick and tired of getting curb stomped by PSU, so they’re voting for anyone other than PSU. The beatings will continue until morale improves 😂
