I disagree. Tubby didn‘t even sniff a Final Four his last 9 years with his players. Calipari choked numerous times with overwhelming talent. Not sure what your point is.
If Calipari’s run didn’t satisfy you during his first 15 years then you must really be miserable with Pope

He’ll get one more year but it’s going to get really ugly though. Is Pope sure he wants another year of this vocal fan base? I’m not saying it’s right but that’s the reality of it. If he can turn this chaos around, he would definitely have earned it and respect from the fanbase

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

The 60s, 80s, 2000s, 2020s netted a total 2 Final Fours and no titles, a few .500 or worse seasons and bouts of prolonged mediocrity.

The key is coming back stronger like we usually do.
I think this doesn’t really capture the context and is void of the full picture. From start to now, nobody has won like Kentucky. We’ve won titles in the 40’s 50’s 70’s 90’s 2010’s. It’s really remarkable. Not to mention 40 elite 8’s, that is staggering. So I get we haven’t won huge every time but we’ve won more than anyone else in history.

It’s time to stop playing around and go big. No more maybe hires unless it’s considered a home run up and comer. Kentucky has the support and the prestige to hit the next few decades out of the part, but under Mitch, we’ve chosen not to. It’s a choice, and it’s time we brought men in here to set the table and be done with this. Time for Mark and Mitch and the rest to go, time to get Kentucky to its rightful place. It’s coming.

Pope has justifiably earned his vocal fan base. Sucks to suck

UNC has won titles n the 50s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s and choked away one n the 2020s.

So we aren't the only team that has won them n 5 different decades.

We have actually not done that we'll since the 50s.

Well we got 2 in the 40’s, 2 in the 50’s, 1 in the 70’s, 2 in the 90’s, should have 3 more in the 2010’s but have 1 there. I mean that’s as good as anyone has done it in history. That’s really my point, if what we’ve done is not that great, then no one is. 5 coaches to win titles, I mean, that’s as good as it’s been done. I think people don’t realize this when they diminish it because they don’t realize, that’s the best. And it’s not our fault our goat has already been here. We got ours early, doesn’t mean less that Duke who got theirs later.

When Jelavic or Jasper dribble, I start looking for which player with the wrong jersey color will assume the ball.

When Jelavic can do something of substance on the court, perhaps his commentary would be more appropriate. It’d be like if the guy who has never sold anything in the company is the most outspoken in the board room meeting. It’s like, “why is this guy the one suggesting things?”
Totally disagree. Jelavic isn’t top talent but I don’t care if he’s the janitor. At least he had the guts to say it. 99% of UK fans can see we have TERRIBLE team chemistry plus a few guys that are just cancers. Oweh wants to run the team and he’s been all about Oweh since he’s been here. Mo’s attitude is just as bad. Throw in dysfunctional Garrison, Johnson and who knows about some of the others. Pope didn’t lose this team … he NEVER HAD this team. We may not win another game. We don’t deserve to win another game. And Pope should be gone and not let the door hit him in the *SS on the way out. Everything about these crybabies is a disaster.

Tubby lost in the Elite 8 three times, once in OT. I would call that ‘sniffing’ the Final 4. Cal made the Elite 8 in year one, Final 4 in year two, title in year three, final game in year five and Final 4 in year six. He lost two Elite 8 games after 15. Cal’s later years were less than stellar, but his first six were fantastic overall. John Higgins played a huge role in denying Cal another Final 4 in 17.

Sounds interesting I suppose. Bottom line is they underachieved.

Agree with all of this. I sometimes wonder if you have to have to have the duds sprinkled in to regain the edge to get the next legendary coach. Seems to have always been the case historically. And even some of the mid coaches we’ve had have brought us a title.

Honestly my biggest hope is with Mitch leaving. Hope the right people behind the scenes get to make the call. The fraternity of ex players is large enough to not have to rely on one single person making the call.

My only solace in this season is that it has added some names to my mental Rolodex of hate and I can’t wait to see the true UK program return and wipe some smug smiles off their faces.

This is the correct take here.

Resume wasn’t UK worthy at time of hire. Most of us bought in because we had to. Last year bought him next year. This year makes next year an all or nothing year for CMP.
Please define all or nothing? Title? Final four? Elite 8?

When Matt said 6 months will determine UK's future he was talking about other things going on like who the next AD is and other things he said he couldnt talk about.

It will be interesting this summer to hear what all is going on behind the scenes and Matt and the gang to let us know how it all played out

Tubby went to OT vs Mich state in the regional final. The game Sparks hit that 3 and rondo had a chance with the ball in his hand to win it. We have gone right now much much longer than the tubby drough. 8 years or so vs 12 year right now.

People go way to light and don’t get mad enough on post game show call ins. It’s almost cringey to listen to fans that call in stutter around and end up somehow complimenting the team after games like this. I just can’t handle the second hand embarrassment of it.
just once I wish somebody would call in and say exactly what every single fan who has an iq above 10 would say and make sure it’s clear how the majority feels.
You ought to look into getting a phone. Makes life easier

And who has been saying this over and over? Me me ball, black holes everywhere. I mean it’s been obvious. Chandler hits a 3 doesn’t see the ball because now it’s Oweh’s turn, or MO D’s turn, thy play with no purpose other than to get theirs. I mean I’ve been railing on this, and there it is, straight from a player.

Lotta games where that is definitely a problem. That was not the problem today. Oweh was literally the only guy who could score. Chandler is a spot up shooter who does little else when he should be running side to side all game looking for openings. Honestly I think Pope has conceded he can’t get thru to this bunch and is just riding it out.
Yes. I think these 'gotta get theirs' guys highjacked the season in a lot of ways.

Yea I agree but also think Oweh set this table a long time ago. Collin isn’t getting involved so, well, he’s not evolving. I just think we were doomed the day Pope didn’t rein Oweh in and he took issue with Aberdeen being offered. Apparently, allegedly,………Oweh didn’t know he was going to be offered. My opinion, since that day, this wasn’t going to work. Add in MO D who’s a very low IQ player (on the court) who also thinks like Oweh, it was doomed. So after all of that yes we need his 20. But I don’t think it should have ever come to this I guess is my point.
Just think if we had gotten Lamar Wilkerson. Where would his 20 shots a game come from?

Between 1939 and 2015, we were averaging an Elite Eight about 45% of the time. That's as elite as it gets. Name another program that comes close to that. UK has dominated and had a top 10 team about every other year historically before Cal's crap fest the last four years here.

What should have been done day 2 is Oweh should have been told if you’re not going to play by team principles; we want you to leave and we’ll take our chances. He should have been told we are not playing for Oweh to get awards and for Oweh to impress scouts. Because that’s exactly what he’s been doing. And it probably would have straitened him up, likely.

Mark should have torn down some of these egos but he never did because they don’t take him serious. So we’ve got a leader who’s worried about getting 20, nobody else gets going because they know, it kills momentum and flow, no bonding, and you have no team. But what do I know, I’m sure everything is fine.
You cannot be this stupid. Oweh is the only reason we are making the tournament.

Speaking of post game

yikes

I noted that during the game where some guys refused to pass to certain players even tough they were open, they forced things and did create turnovers..

Pope has no reaction… is refreshing that Jela is speaking the truth. For that he grew in my eyes…

this whole season was a s… show because of Pope allowing indiscipline. This would have been a great reason to make them run and conditioning them,,,

how many stupid turnovers?
how many rebounds with one hand?
How many late rotations ?
How many hero balls ?

hwo many of all these things are you going to allow as aCoach?

Pope set the bar so low …. Unbelievable…

In a few weeks we will be told that there were a few "toxic players" in the locker room who were the crux of all our problems. We will be told since they are leaving it will be totally different next year. Does this propaganda, scapegoating, and deflection from coaching sound familiar?

They started 11 - 0. Were we tired from the tip?
Probably. Apparently we only need to play a game per week, but have the first game on a Wednesday and then the next game on Saturday the next week. He's probably still say it was a short turnaround.

I know the stats sheet says that Mark Pope is Gen X, but he sounds like a f'n millennial.
No way. I'm a millennial and have never once taken a sick day. He sounds like all the younger people that I've ever had work for me or worked with, that want days off for fatigue, stress, or even hangovers for some of them lol.

Yeah. Only time I’ve taken time off is when my car was acting up and it was going to be noon by the time I could get a rental and mine into the shop. Going in with like four hours left was just silly to me. And if I’m up chucking/running a high fever. I’m not getting anyone else sick. I think in the course of 23 years of working I’ve taken one “mental health day” and that was at a job I absolutely hated.

Yea I don’t know where this idea comes from that “we really haven’t been that great”. I mean if we aren’t, then no one is. It’s like some people think there’s 10 other programs that have dominated every decade yearly. Nobody has done this as good as Kentucky start to finish. Leave the cherry picking out, we’re basically the Yankees of the sport, save the 1 decade of Sam Gilbert.
You cannot be this stupid. Oweh is the only reason we are making the tournament.
Sounds like you didn’t read anything except “Oweh is the problem” and literally paid attention to nothing else. He’s a catch 22, he stifled the hell out of this team. Without him we don’t make the tournament, with him we had no chance at a great season. This happens with black hole “get mine” players. It happens every year on multiple teams. I get you’re probably a ball watcher who goes to the stat line and sees 20 points. There’s a lot more to it than that. Oweh is a cancer but once that cancer grows and affects the entire team you can’t remove it or you die. He was that necessary because he made it so. AD scored 12 points a game and impacted everything around him in positive ways. Oweh took a lot of points off the board for UK and stunted team growth. It’s as obvious as anything I’ve seen at UK. You not understanding anything about how that works doesn’t change it. Chandler was a massive key to this team this year, Oweh Wouldn’t defer and get guys involved, they didn’t progress. He’s not coachable, he’s a ball hog. But he’s, at this point we are what we are and we’re going to now have to live or die with Oweh, because he’s not going to defer lol. If Oweh is your leader and scoring over 12 ppg your team is going nowhere. And look, we’re 19-12. He wouldn’t set up JJ Reddick, JJ would likely shoot 3 to 4 times per game with Oweh as a teammate.
