Yeah, to the best of my recollection I first saw Bicycle Thieves in that class, in Schwab.

When I arrived at PSU, in 1974, they had a year-long Bergman fest, a year-long Chaplin fest. Fellini the next year. I first caught both City Lights and Modern Times in the Eisenhower.

I really fell hard for Bergman, always so visually beautiful. I grew up. Regardless, Wild Strawberries is my #1 comfort movie, has been for years. About an elderly college professor looking back with regrets, on brand, I suppose.
I saw the Bergman, Chaplin, and Fellini fests too. It confirmed my love of classic/auteur films. Great times, LionJim! Kern Building also showed some fine foreign films over my years there.

Or course Rocky is my favorite movie all time. Wrestled for 8 years 5th grade to 12th. Somehow in 8 th grade the name took because I always came back to win.

A Robert Duvall trifecta on Tuesday 10th, Tender Mercies, The Great Santini, Apocalypse Now. I’ve never seen TGS, I should bite the bullet and watch it. (It’s about a tyrant father, a rough watch.)

I love Tender Mercies, a beautifically heartfelt film.
Re upping Robert Duvall night. It’s a great opportunity to once again see a great actor at his craft and, tonight, to mourn his passing.

Edit Duvall is the type of actor where your favorite of his roles changes from day to day. I was thinking earlier that his best work was Lonesome Dove but his Tom Hagen, the entirety of his work in The Godfather Saga (a TV editing of 1 and 2 where the plot unfolds chronologically, and includes scenes missing from the theatrical releases) does it for me, right now.

I much prefer Apocalypse Now Redux to the original. Aurore Clement for the win.

Another edit: Tender Mercies at 8pm, The Great Santini 10pm, Apocalypse Now 12:15am.

Apocalypse now has an awesome soundtrack but loses me about half way up the river. 🤷‍♂️
