I think that's where you have to give Cal his due ... he took a team full of guys who had basically one thing in mind (NBA), and got them to play as a team. Well, for the first part of his time here anyway.
His last 4 years he stopped getting guys that were different makers in their first year in the NBA. Cason Wallace is the only player that got significant playing time his first year in the league. Compare that to his first 11 years and you can understand the drop off his last 4 at Kentucky.

I'll cheer for Dink if he becomes a Cat but I really don't like that we have to go down this road.
Being honest, I don't think he should be eligible but I also realize the game has changed.

I have mixed emotions about this guy. I read one of his interviews and he made it clear coming to UK was about being on tv every game and putting up big numbers to set himself up for the NBA draft. And no, I'm not exaggerating or paraphrasing his words, but maybe he's just more honest than the other players.
He's already been through the draft and can't go back through again.
He's playing college for the money and a free agent contract which hasn't been offered yet but could be at anytime the Knicks decide to pull the trigger.

What do you think the chances are he takes the college route and when will he decide by?
75% or more he goes college route. He’s played good this season without much love from any NBA teams so College can get him paid and possibly lead him back to the league. 4-6 weeks on a decision, maybe sooner.

Cal did a good job of keeping the knuckleheads away from the program.

Anyone remember the poster who kept posting cryptic pics and messages with clues about Andrew Wiggins, his silent verbal, and his countdown to the day he would commit? That was comedy.

His numbers improved this year but he's still only 40 percent overall from the floor. One of the concerns I've read is his potential fit with Kam and CC. Pate settles for jumpers and has an absurdly low free throw rate. That would be 3 guys in the lineup that can't create and get to the rim. Mainly spot-up shooters. I like his rebounding numbers though.

Would rather tamper with Juke Harris from Wake Forest to enter the portal, imo.

I get your concerns, but in the highlights Pate looks like he has the handles & ability to attack off the dribble, so I feel like that would allow him to fit in with those guys more.

Along those same lines, though, if I were coaching CC and Kam, there off-season program would be loaded with most intensive ball handling drills that they’ve ever been required to do.

If those 2 could become legit consistent threats to attack off the bounce, they would be deadly.

I wasn't sure how the free agency worked since he wasn't drafted. Do the Knicks have his NBA rights or just G League?

Pate plays a lot like Amen Thompson, or a poor mans Tracy Mcgrady if you will. Tons of upside.

How quickly this fan base goes from woe is us to we're gonna kick *** next year back to woe is us. Never seen anything like it. In Dink We Trust!!
You mean fans on Rupp Rafters because most of the fans I see on a daily basis are concerned regardless of who commits

Anybody thinking the line up of Chandler, Williams, and Pate is top level talent doesn't understand basketball at all
The 3 of them don’t have to play together.. have Chandler come off the bench as a 6th man. Get a tall point guard that is about 6’5” who can shoot. 6’5” 6’8 6’8 is a starting lineup I would like to roll out with. Look at the fits Duke creates with their length because how big their guards are. Coming off the bench you can have Lowe or Jasper with Chandler, jelavic and Hawthorne. Not a bad start.

Duke's guards, are not in the same league as any of the players you mentioned. Jasper, maybe, but he needs a real coach, and he ain't getting that at UK.

I can see why the Pate news is exciting because there are 0 recruits as of now, but get ready to be disappointed again if this is the best we can do.

If this is true they can go ahead and mail us the trophy
Thanks! I don’t know if you’re intent was to make me laugh out loud, but is it the first time in several days I have had that good of a chuckle.
if that wasn’t your intent, I just want to say it was a beautiful comment. And, Coach Pope thinks it was a beautiful comment as well.

He's 6'8'' and shooting ~38% from 3 on over 8 attempts per game. That's not too shabby.
He's definitely a wait and see type prospect.
Some people are rolling with the narrative that he's doing it against " grown men" in the g League.
For reference, Brandon Boston absolutely tore up the G league dropping 40 pt games and Reed dropped 36 in his first game when the Rockets sent him down last season.
The guy Baylor brought in is barely playable.
