Well we are the Host Team. Let’s hope people get word to Cael he is responsible today to bring up the seeding issues at the Coaches Meeting. We all know he’s not very comfortable talking about certain issues. This is definitely one that’s on everyone’s mind. The obvious ones definitely need changed. Im sure other Coaches will be speaking up about there wrestlers who are not seeded correctly. In addition Cael should bring up the wrestlers who are seeded to high or low from other schools since he’s the Host School.
Cael should figure out wrestling a tougher OOC schedule, and attend national duals is how the big boy coaches handle things. No need to reseed.

Who will each Penn State wrestler face first on Saturday?

Each bracket features 14 wrestlers, and the top two seeds receive byes to the quarterfinals. That means only Davis and Mirasola will compete in the opening round, while every other Penn State wrestler will wait to learn their first opponent of the tournament.

Here's the rundown (Note: The number in front of each wrestler's name is his Big Ten seed, not his national ranking):

125 pounds: No. 1 Luke Lilledahl, Penn State vs. the winner of No. 9 Diego Sotelo of Michigan and No. 8 Dean Peterson of Iowa in the quarterfinals

133 pounds: No.1 Marcus Blaze, PSU vs. the winner of No. 9 Dylan Shawver of Rutgers and No. 8 Braxton Brown of Maryland in the quarterfinals

141 pounds: No. 6 Braeden Davis, Penn State vs. No. 11 Dario Lemus of Maryland in the first round

149 pounds: No. 1 Shayne Van Ness, PSU vs. the winner of No. 9 Michael Gioffre of Illinois and No. 8 Ryder Block of Iowa in the quarterfinals

157 pounds: No. 2 PJ Duke, PSU vs. the winner of No. 10 Victor Voinovich of Iowa and No. 7 Brandon Cannon of Ohio State in the quarterfinals

165 pounds: No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink, Penn State vs. the winner of No. 9 Tyler Lillard of Indiana and No. 8 Paddy Gallagher in the quarterfinal

174 pounds: No. 1 Levi Haines, PSU vs. the winner of No. 9 Colin Kelly of Illinois and No. 8 Broady Baumann of Purdue in the quarterfinals

184 pounds: No. 1 Rocco Welsh, Penn State vs. the winner of No. 9 Sam Goin of Indiana and No. 8 Angelo Ferria of Iowa in the quarterfinals

197 pounds: No. 1 Josh Barr, PSU vs. the winner of No. 9 Ben Vanadia of Purdue and No. 8 Gabe Sollers of Indiana in the quarterfinals

285 pounds: No. 4 Cole Mirasola, Penn State vs. No. 13 Gabe Christenson of Northwestern in the first round

There is only one big boy coach in the ncaa division 1 wrestling realm. He lives in centre county. However it is awfully nice of you to stop by and offer your childish level opinion.

So there are only 3 wrestlers that have a chance to beat their seeds for PSU. And only 9 total spots that they can move to. That is crazy. That is why the metric of "Beating Seed" isn't a metric that PSU worries about. But Iowa certainly has a great chance to beat their seeds up and down the lineup

Cannon and Ferrari. Did their coaches plan this. Get our guys in second round instead of 4th. So they are more fresh. Big deal for ncaas if they win.

So for all of the bitching by people, only 9 positions were flipped, and only 3 in the top 3 seeds

Seems like the algorithm wasn't that bad, and adding a true H2H would have fixed most of the issues (as well as not double counting a few of the criteria) . We'll see what they do next year

Or was the intent to get everyone talking and excited about this, as it has been in the wrestling news since released. If it came out like this, there would have been only 15 minutes of discussion about the seeds.

The algorithim still sucks. You can't put a limit on something like the 15 point difference and then say something worked because very few positions changed when they were unable to correct things due to the false limit.

But 9 feels like a lot compared to years past.

Actually it seems pretty good for a first time use of a non QA/QC result (I'm assuming this wasn't checked before it was released). Hope that the changes discussed will be implemented for next year, and that will fix everything except for the exceptions (very good wrestlers that are injured and miss much of the season).

One other thing to consider is that it might be an artificially low number of changes due to the rule that wrestlers must be within 15 points. I am not sure the 15 point threshold was based in any deep thought or analysis.

It was given the same amount of thought and analysis as the QC and QA processes were done to the original programming matrix.

None.

LoL HH. Come this Sunday and the Sunday after Nationals Cael will say to the "big boy coaches" Hold my beer!
BTW they could seed Levi anywhere they want and he will beat them all like a rented mule. You should be happy they move the PSU guys up. Gives the husker guys a chance to get in the top 8 [of the B1G]

Hmm.... Without knowledge of what went on behind closed doors at the coaches mtg today and any constraints on their ability to make changes at this late hour it's difficult to say with any confidence whether "only 9" changes tells us anything about the coaches' contentment with the algorithm.
