There's been a lot of talk about Barnhart's ludicrously lucrative retirement BS that happened to go into effect right after he inked us a nasty deal with JMI for the next 14 years.
JMI, now having fired Dave Baker and making itself even more hated by Kentucky fans, seems to think it can act with impunity... A trend we've seen a lot, as of late.
JMI itself is just a licensing entity, so we can't really boycott it. However, we can pressure its corporate sponsors for change. Kroger, Central Bank, KY Farm Bureau, Paul Miller Ford, and many more all have corporate agreements with JMI. We can speak to those sponsors with emails and calls, but also with $$$.
Reducing cash flow from licensed apparel and ticket sales would also send a strong message, although that could harm the student athletes and coaches trying their best despite a drowning situation.
To remedy this JMI situation, I suspect we could get out of the contract due to the serious conflict of interest between Rachel Baker, Executive Associate AD, and her husband, Brandon Baker, a high-ranking executive at JMI. HOWEVER, that would require consistent contact from fans to both Capilouto as well as the Board of Trustees. Outside of that, the University being a public entity, we must also contact representatives in the state and demand investigations into this corruption. The conflict of interest is too great to ignore, and is one of avenues that again, I suspect could be used to get UK out of this deal that CLEARLY gives JMI too much authority while providing absolutely no transparency.
Barnhart got us into this JMI mess, created two terrible contracts, made multiple horrific hires, saw the downturn of UK basketball twice, and abdicated too much control to his head coaches, yet comes away clean. Something is rotten in Lexington, and it needs to come to light.
That's it. That's the post.
Go Big Blue.
