FWIW, there’s memorabilia in the museum from artists who aren’t in the HOF.I went to the HOF a few years ago, I remember walking through, constantly asking myself " WTF is he/she/they doing in the Rock and Roll HOF"

For me it's similar to the ripping off of the term "Reggae" by the Reggaeton crowd. One has nothing to do with the other.
If they had the slightest bit of honesty the people doing the nominating would either change the name of the place to The Popular Music Hall Of Fame or stop nominating musicians that have zero to do with Rock and Roll.
Rock and Roll, like Reggae, has a certain cachet that some want to adopt in an attempt to broaden their audience...I guess.
I've been listening to rock and roll for about 65 years. I know what rock and roll is. Mariah Carey and Shakira are not rock and roll.
The people that run that thing called The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame know that. Change the name to what it really is.
noUhmmm....Candy Girl? Boyz to Men? Com'on you don't remember these songs?

Bac, we probably have some different tastes in music, and I’ve been around longer than you, but can you explain the B52s to me?I would think Britney will be eligible soon along with Backstreet Boys and N Sync
I am a big Sade fan but not sure if she deserves this honor.
Jeff Buckely..omg one album good lord, music magazines wet dream but i dont see it
Billy Idol..definitely
Lauryn Hill..come on one album herself and disappeared
New Edition..this is a joke right..dei is real
Melissa Etheridge...I think she deserves...people forget how popular she was and the singer songwriter thing was big and she influenced alot of artists..no issue with this one
Phil Collins...i would lean no but they probably give it to him being he probably wont be here much longer..he did produce and play on alot of artists tracks even though his solo career was a big milquetoast
Iron Maiden..yes
New Order/Joy Divsion..definitely trailblazers in genre and huge influence even to this day
Mariah Carey...yes and we are past the argument that this kind of music shouldnt get in...icon
Pink...this is truly a joke....in any real world she should never sniff it
INXS...i jiust dont think they had an impact enogh because they tailed off in the mid 90s and then Hutchence died...
Shakira..is this a joke..i get she is a world wide star but her impact here is not deserving of this honor,..gimme a break
Wu Tang Clan..not my bag at all and of course we are beyond the argument about rap..didnt somebody just die from them..they just might get in but I wouldnt put them in
Oasis....ehhh no...very very good but I mean we are not in England...broke up and impact was small..good lord Alice in Chains isnt even in
Luther Vandross...great singer but a bridge too far here
Black Crowes..love them..i wonder if their career got stunted somewhat because grunge emerged right around their 2nd release...longevity yes but if groups like Boston and Kansas and America are not in why should BC
Need to be in.....America, B52s, Carpenters, Huey Lewis
I bet Pink or Shakira win the peoples choice
good lord Alice in Chains isnt even in
They hate hard rock. LosersReally? Alice in Chains isn't in? How is that possible? That's ridiculous!
Bac, we probably have some different tastes in music, and I’ve been around longer than you, but can you explain the B52s to me?
And now pop princesses..get ready Ariana GrandeThey hate hard rock. Losers
Unfortunately, you do not have to rock in order to roll into the HoF.Hope Iron Maiden gets in and tells them to shove it.
Pink, New Edition, Sade, WTC, Lauryn Hill are not rock.
The Scorpions say hello. First recording 1965. Huge in the 1980s. Over 100 million albums sold. Still recording band touring.
Oh, and Phil Collins' solo wok blows. Awful.
Billy Corgan committed 2 unpardonable sins that the hipster doofus music community will never forgive. Actually learning to play guitar at a high level and seeking out other musicians with the same mindset, and proudly displaying his admiration for Rush and Black Sabbath.Oh why the **** arent the Smashing Pumpkins in yet
likely because he is getting to the end health wise and to even out that Peter Gabriel is in both with Genesis and as a solo act.Okay while I was NEVER a fan of NON-rock acts being inducted, in the1st place, here we go:
Collins is already in with Genesis. Why waste a vote here?
Definitely my top choice in this list as I just posted.I'm surprised Joy Division/New Order were not already in
You could just skip the thread. Every year acts like The Scorpions and Styx get passed over, the wailing will get louderEvery year, the exact same posts in this thread. Can we just change the name of the building to the Music Hall of Fame so I don't have to read this every year?
Hey one good thing about the annual RnR HOF thread is that it's the one time a year kbong and I agree.Every year it's the same friggin joke.Every year, the exact same posts in this thread. Can we just change the name of the building to the Music Hall of Fame so I don't have to read this every year?
Wu-Tang Clan ? Mariah Carey ? Lauren Hill ?
Yeah...they rock....and roll.
Hilarious.
Pink and Lauryn Hill rock way harder than Mr. Sedaka ever did, but on the other hand if this were just a popular music HOF, Sedaka and the Carpenters would be in, so maybe it's not that, despite what some say...Wow..Neil Sedaka not in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He wrote so many iconic songs and sang a few
Yet Pink and Lauryn Hill are nominated..clown show
No idea - massive oversight...Oh why the **** arent the Smashing Pumpkins in yet
I dont think soPink and Lauryn Hill rock way harder than Mr. Sedaka ever did, but on the other hand if this were just a popular music HOF, Sedaka and the Carpenters would be in, so maybe it's not that, despite what some say...
He may think they rock harder the Jim Croce too. There is a reason why.I dont think so
The first part isn't even debatable and neither is the 2nd really.I dont think so
I would go with Modern Music Hall of Fame. I am pretty much a rock guy but enjoy some other music. Used to be pretty resistant to non rock bands in the HoF but have softened over the years. For a long time I wasn’t in favor of changing the name but I now agree, they should change the name to “The Popular Music Hall of Fame”.
A central part to "rock" that people underestimate was the electrification and energy put out. Hendrix used to describe a gig as an "electric village." When Bob Dylan started using an electric he was booed by fans who were used to the folk vibe. Look at the kids going berserk for the electric Beatles - they were "feeling" (vs hearing) the music in a new way . The Beatles were aware of that and knew it was revolutionary - and physical ("The Twist" played into that). The RRHOF justifies some of its pics for the energy and physicality - and it was . "Rock and Roll" isn't about sitting and meditating. It was also
aphrodisiacal and provocative.

John Lennon defined rock music as a raw, honest form of personal expression—a "basic revolution" meant to be felt rather than overly intellectualized.
Paul McCartney has described the advent of rock and roll as a "completely different sound" that was "very exciting" and changed his approach to music forever
. He characterized this era as a revolutionary, visceral experience, noting it felt like "wow!" when he first heard it, distinguishing it from the traditional music and novelty songs that preceded it.
Key Aspects of McCartney's Perspective:
A "Total Shake-Up": He described early rock and roll as a time when the music "shook the walls" and it was a"completely different sound".
Visceral Impact: He has often emphasized the feeling of the music—referring to the thrill of hearing Little Richard scream or Buddy Holly sing for the first time.
A New Beginning: He has mentioned that it is hard to imagine a time before rock and roll because it fundamentally shifted the musical landscape for his generation"
Oh why the **** arent the Smashing Pumpkins in yet
Jethro Tull is the only one on your list that deserves to be in any Rock and Roll Hall of Fame IMO.Here's some groups and solo artists left out that I feel should be in
One group is looked down on (Monkees), but for a few years they outsold the Stones and Beatles
The rest also have a legitimate claim to be in R&R HOF
Steppenwolf
Three Dog Night
Grand Funk Railroad
The J. Geils Band
REO Speedwagon
The Marvelettes
The Guess Who
Tommy James & the Shondells
Mary Wells
Paul Revere & the Raiders
Mötley Crüe
Jethro Tull
Diana Ross (Solo career(
The Monkees
