High % free throw shooter. Best out there. Of course they wanted to get it to him. Geez.
It was in response to the 5-second call potential ... the looking for others to be open.
Of course, you want to get it to your best free-throw shooter, but he has to do his part and MOOOVE to get open.

An absolute travesty. These criminal refs should be forced to answer questions after each game just like the coaches do. It’s unreal how corrupt/incompetent they are, but never are allowed to be questioned. This bs has to change. They’re deciding outcomes of games that are affecting people financially. They need to be held accountable, just like every employed person on earth is.

According to some insiders on Rob Bromley’s Discord the fine will be going to pay for a booze cruise the refs all do at the end of the season to the Bahamas. Unbelievable.

Lol, oh, okay. :ROFLMAO:

For the record, I think it would be ridiculous to make a double foul in that situation. I was just making the point that there were 2 fouls not just one, so Chandler’s push off wasn’t so egregious in light of that.

I do have a serious question…you like the way most SEC teams (and a lot of college teams) play defense being allowed to foul constantly by holding cutters and hand checking/holding ball handlers to prevent drives?

For anyone who just says man up and play physical, my question is why?

I mean, half the other rules for basketball have disappeared too like travel, palming/carrying/double dribble, 3 seconds, so I guess it makes sense to get rid of fouls too.

The problem is that isn’t basketball.

Basketball involves some contact. It's going to happen. If players are afraid to make any contact, defense becomes meaningless.

Chandler's foul was appropriately called. It's life. The refs aren't what lost us the game. I've rewatched it twice and saw bad calls both ways.

No game we have lost this year has been caused by officials. We simply just suck!

I know some can't fathom that so they will look for any excuse, but the ref blaming is simply that...an excuse.

I disagree with nothing you’ve said. In fact, my first post about this said it wasn’t the sole reason the game was lost.

I also agree there is some contact in basketball. I played from the time I was walking into high school, so I get that.

However, the contact I’m talking about that is so pervasive now is the ridiculous holding, constant moving illegal screens, rugby in the paint. The leagues acknowledged that junk isn’t the rules when they came out with a supposed emphasis on “freedom of movement”, but they didn’t enforce it with officiating.

The other part of the problem is I don’t know how teams and players know how to play defense when that type of play is allowed, and then the ticky tack small stuff is called in between. It would be infuriating to me as a player.

Tonight at SC will be no different. Their coach wants the style of play to be more like rugby than basketball, and with Pope just getting fined, I will STUNNED if the Gamecocks don’t really push the limit with physical play daring Coach Pope to go at the officials.

Why I auta!! Mitch!!! I didn’t say that!

Galdern garden hose drinkin cotton pickin no good EmEfErs!!!

Mitch! Mitch! I’m experiencing MELANCHOLY😭

I’m sorry but lame doesn’t begin to describe his antics with that fake freakout. Clearly tried to set that up in the hallway for effect. I like Mark in a lot of ways, but he’s turning this program into an embarrassment. I’ve got friends that are fans of other programs that are ripping me for ever agreeing with the hire (short time), and laughing their *** off. Everyone is. Don’t even get on X or social media lol. This is approaching Gillispie levels of embarrassment. Wait until Louisville beats him by 20 next season with a team full of David Benjamins. I’m sorry but if this was happening at Indiana every single person here would be laughing their *** off. And everyone knows it.

I'm hopeful this signals a new CMP. One that lights a fire under those who do not respond to scouting reports or follow directions on how to prepare themselves for specific opponents and well scouted plays from opponents. I'd rather lose at this point if it will contribute to a better future. If so it will be worth it. I'll be happy to contribute to the fine if it results in those changes.

Pope didnt get a pass. Big deal. Pope very much criticized the officials while attempting to do so in a clever way. I wish he would just directly criticize, look straight at the camera and give his honest thoughts instead of trying to be cute. I am tired of his, I am so clever, act. He is not. He is a goofball.

Pope needs to teach our players to flop a little more, and yes, I'm serious. I wish Chander would have doubled over onto the ground when he got held by two arms.

I agree, if we're giving the AU player and coaching staff credit for that, they done a great job, of setting Chandler up to push off. I mean hell, they were getting the calls and needed a foul anyway, only made since

If you're gonna do it, do it out in front of the cameras and leave a check on the table and say here ya go SEC.
As I've always said, I'd come out, and slam my wallet on the table and say "Buckle up boys" and let them have it.

We have shot 85 less free throws than teams we played against in the sec. Fouls totals are sorta close, but this shows you the "TYPE" of fouls we are getting. We only get the ones that really do not matter.
This is absolutely the case. Watch for situations where there is a great discrepancy between fouls called on the home team vs away team. The refs will start calling lots of fouls "off the ball" that will equal out the foul totals.

I think this will just make it worse, refs will be after him even more! They hate Kentucky now they will go after him more!!!

It will not make it worse then it already is, and has been for a while. Kentucky does not get a fair call, even on our home court. Call it fkn soft or what ever a guy wants, but it is the FKN truth.

I think the fine would have been money well spent, if he would have done like he should have. They called a s.hitty fkn whole game, and that's what cost us, not just the last call, that 99%of refs won't call.

Lol they fined him anyway. So much for the people saying he's a genius for waiting until he was off the podium. This is why if you're going to say this stuff, you stand on business and say it facing the cameras.

One simple flop and we likely win that game. I'd rather win than take a loss "the right way." History would not care that Chandler "took one for the team." If you aren't doing little things like that, someone else is and they have the advantage.
Nah. We don’t win that game if chandler falls down like a punk. We win that game by not playing like garbage. He wasn’t even in position to flop.

we will always disagree on this. I do not condone playing like a girl dog.

You could say that when Duke beat Boston College. If Boston College would’ve done about 75 other things right they might’ve had a chance to win. All that matters was the last play and we got screwed.
Nope. We shouldn’t have even been in the position we were at then end. Blaming refs is for losers.

So what did he get fined for? Saying his opinion when he was off the mic? He’s allowed to have an opinion. He’s right he didn’t say anything about them screwing us.
I’d counter sue them motha effers

Good that whole thing was embarrassing. Shows how far we’ve fallen when our coach is complaining about refs cheating us against a Steven Pearl coached team.
This is hilarious all year I have read tons of posts on here raising Caine because Pope * doesn't get on the officials enough and now when does people are calling him a loser because he did so. Also hearing he wasn't forceful enough in his criticism. Calling them * cheating MFers seems pretty strong to me. Why don't some of you get honest and admitt you will not accept he is our coach no matter what he does.

He didn’t get on anybody. He said it as he walked off barely loud enough for a mic to pic up. He got fined for it. Have some balls and go after the officials during the game. Pick up a tech. He clearly sees we weren’t gonna win that game. What’s a tech gonna hurt? What’s pointing it out during the post game press conference gonna hurt?

no he chose to pout as he walked off like a titty baby. “Mitch give me a hug and save my job these motha effers are cheating us”

yea that’s the way we want him to go after officials. Only Pope could get a 25,000 dollar fine for saying something as he walks off back to the podium.

What do you mean he didn't say it "loud" enough. Everybody in the damn country heard what he said.

But I’m also not going against what you or the other guy said. I’m glad he said it no matter how he said it. Just wish he would of said it directly to the tv with a hard mfer and not the effa.

not trying to get into a back and forth with yall. What yall said is right: I’m just being hard on the Popester.

It would be an interesting project to hire another analytics person to do nothing but turn refs performances inside out. Not just our games but all sec games. It may take a couple of people at first to hone in on the most important data.

Then, use that data like a bat, starting with UK Athletics and then move to the SEC itself. Study the habits of the bastards. I have zero doubt that situational habits exist. I have zero doubt that bias, both for and against, exist.

Fine tune the analytics over a couple years and see if you can pinpoint issues. How great would it be if our guys knew how a ref was likely to act? We do it for opposing players, why not the refs. If you can prove efficacy then the big play is sitting there.

Create a dossier in private, for now, and anonymously get it in the hands of sports media. If they could see predictable patters, there would be hell to pay. It would turn officiating upside down.

The flip side could also be beneficial if fatigue and floor coverage are shown to be a problem. An extra official could keep one guy on each end fresh while the other 2 move on each play.

Refs have a difficult job but they have to do better, one way or the other.

Why are refs not allowed to be questioned when media can absolutely kill players and coaches. This is why refs rig games.

Seeing Coach Pope get fined and after the Auburn fiasco, I applaud our coach.

Best single thing he has done since he has been here at Kentucky. This officiating is ridiculouos.

It is about time.

keep getting fined, coach. Fight it ! You are getting the trial by fire all kentucky coaches must endure.

Bravo

Blows my mind when fans say it is weak to blame refs. THAT IS LITERALLY the existence of a fanbase. We yell at the tv and blame the refs.
I get that they are gonna miss calls, but when it clearly changes the outcome of the game on a 50/50 call they should let it play out.

This is basically all of sports for a fan, watch game - scream at players for not doing what you think they should (even though none of us have the talent to do so ourselves) and then complain about calls -good times.

Afterwards we debate about whether said call affected the game or not - AND EVERY FAN base does it, the percentage does not matter.

So act as holy as you want, we all know you complain about calls.
