It wasn't stated directly to the media. He should've owned it and got his money's worth. Yeah, it was intentionally said but going nuclear directly in front of a mic would've been more satisfying.

What gets me with this sort of fine is how the NCAA does this while some can say the craziest things these days as politicians, news reporters, even to the point where they are calling for riots, criminal acts and such and claim they can do so because of the 1st Amendment.

I get all that, but how can someone speaking to answer a question to how they feel or state a fact can be fined while not respecting his rights?

I wish UK would tell the NCAA to kiss *** and hire an attorney just to prolong all this to prove a point. Bring all the bad calls out in light and let the officials explain.
Agreed. It was picked up indirectly being stated. Doesn't he have a right to publicly speak to his boss?
I'd fight the fine as well just to draw a line in the sand. The NCAA is a eunuch organization that picks n chooses it's battles. Make em earn it!!!

There is no need to give officials a reason to call a foul there ... it is simple ... don't push off ... just MOOOOOOVE to get separation !!!! If the game was at Rupp and situation was reversed with no call ... the fans would've gone nuts !!!!
Maybe if the defensive player didn't have his arm around his back he would have not needed to push off.

He couldn’t move because the guy had him wrapped up. Jesus Christ.
If he moved to get separation and the guy bear-hugged him so hard he couldn't move, a foul would've been called on the defender. They were trying to get a foul call to save clock and get us to the free-throw line. Chandler did not need to push off ... he needed to MOOOOOOVE !!!

Dude was trying to get a foul call to stop the clock and get us to the line. I think you play smart there and do not push off to get separation ... you just moooove ... that situation is taught and understood at practices.

Or maybe his coach could draw up an in-bounds play that doesn’t rely solely on making a cut to get open.

NO, a foul wasn’t gonna be called on the defender in that instance. That was made clear the other 39:46 of the game, and we had to get it inbounded or we would’ve gotten a 5 second call which would’ve probably been more like 4 1/2 seconds.

We just see it differently. Plus, there are three other players on the court that needed to make themselves available for an inbounded pass.
If Chandler is the only "eligible" player we look for by design, our press offense is a poor one.

And a couple of those you probably don’t want on the FT line. You had to either throw it into Chandler or Aberdeen.

And you guys wonder why he doesn’t get onto the officials more. This is such BS! No accountability whatsoever for the cheating referees but you better not call out their incompetence publicly.
I would completely support coaches being fined for calling out the officials, IF AND ONLY IF the officials had any kind of accountability and reprimand system. Short of a Federal point shaving investigation, nothing is ever done to them.

It was a set FLOP. Watch the AU player's feet; he didn't make the normal move an athlete would there to keep from falling. Just fell over like a statue would have. They were leaning on each other, as they always do on these inbounds plays. When the AU player fell over, Chandler went over a little before he regained his balance and broke to his left.

A Pearl Set Flop.

Pope needs to teach our players to flop a little more, and yes, I'm serious. I wish Chander would have doubled over onto the ground when he got held by two arms.

There were countless calls, the entire game, that lead to it even being close at the end. Licking boots is for losers.
There were countless turnovers, missed foul shots, failure to box out and missed layups that led to this loss. Control what you can control, you cannot control the zebras.

Stop playing the victim. It's soft

Never. nope. Never.

For all of Cal's faults I was proud that his teams never flopped. Play the damn game and play like a man. Let the chips fall where they may.

Why can't both be true? As many have said, there were many reasons for the loss, but it is ALSO true that a bad call at a critical point late in the game can directly change the outcome.

Even in this instance, Chandler may have pushed off, but the Auburn defender is also HOLDING him. Fine, it you want to be a real stickler to the rules, call a double foul, UK retains possession. That may at least get the defender to play real defense instead of the rugby crap most SEC teams play.
Because it's an excuse and it's completely out of their control. Losers do it and then whine about it after.

One simple flop and we likely win that game. I'd rather win than take a loss "the right way." History would not care that Chandler "took one for the team." If you aren't doing little things like that, someone else is and they have the advantage.

Mitch,

Those Dag Nabbit two timers done cost us the game. I bet those yellow belly punks won’t come out here and tell these fine people the reason for their nonsense calls! You know we done played our hearts out these last three games and have zip to show for it! Give me another chance next year and I’ll turn in a good assignment.

Sincerely,
Nerdacus Pope

You could say that when Duke beat Boston College. If Boston College would’ve done about 75 other things right they might’ve had a chance to win. All that matters was the last play and we got screwed.

We used to complain about refs when we lost to a good team. Now we are losing to Auburn wo Bruce Pearl and blaming refs. Our team needs to be 5-7 points better on the road in the sec.

You simply place one leg between his legs (left to go left, right to go righ) and spin-and-pin him on your hip and then separate.
You do this with your hands above your head, if he's holding you ... if you cannot get away because of his hold ... it will be an extremely obvious impeding foul, if not a flagrant one. The spin-and-pin move is perhaps the best when you have a man between you and the ball. You have to MOVE, not slow-walk it, though. This is the move I taught my players to use, especially down low in the post. I always taught never to push off OR hold, unless you want to create a late-game foul.

Listen Kentucky gets hosed and yes it was a flop. But to blame the loss on that like some are doing is outrageously bogus. First of all I don’t even want to get into 14 assist / 14 turnovers lol. Second let’s not get into blowing leads against a .500 near team. Third, Pope could have spaced that out 15 points easy with the right lineups. So I won’t get into that.

Every coach worth a damn tells his players to keep their hands up or anticipate a flop. Watch college ball and watch those situations, smart players and good teams will raise their hands to show they aren’t pushing because they’re anticipating the flop or they lean away.

Collin not only didn’t do that. He leaned into the floor and EXTENDED his arms. You can say in some ways it is actually a foul. An official should anticipate it sure, but they’re not always going to and you have to be smart. Collin wasn’t. Pope and a low IQ basketball team and some of this is on him. Collin and some others aren’t dumb.

Just go back and watch it. A lot of officials are calling that. We’ve been hosed way worse and pope didn’t say anything. He’s succumbing to the pressure.

Mediocre coach makes a scene in hopes of getting his team pumped to play bottom of the barrel South Carolina in order to avoid the bubble.

Yes, 100%. This isn’t hard. Move off, and keep your hands up. Something, ANYTHING but falling forward with the slip THEN extending your friggin arms out.

people need to just go back and which it. It was a low IQ play by Chandler and many officials are calling that. Hell if you’re not close it looks like foul completely.

This is the equivalent of a $240 fine for someone who makes $70,000/year.

Pope makes this much money each week off his investments alone.

If I was him, I'd do it again.

I saw what you saw ... and agree with your post. You have to be smart and anticipate what your opponent is going to do in late-game situations.

Yep. And he needs to do it when it’s a lot better of a reason than when Chandler extends his arms after a low IQ inbounds on all fronts after blowing what should have been a 15 point lead easy.

Well worth the 25k to put the officials on notice. I do wish he would have blasted them more. It’s amazing that the official who made that call was selected as an alternate for the final four last year. For this one call alone, he shouldn’t sniff a second round game.
