Damn.

These hits are gonna keep coming too. 71?!! Man. I was a pretty sporty kid but identified more with the Nerds....RIP.

  • Betty Childs: [blissfully] Oh, Stan. You were wonderful. You did things to me you've never done before.
  • [Lewis takes off his mask]
  • Betty Childs: [gasps] Ahhh! You're that nerd!
  • Lewis: Yeah.
  • Betty Childs: [blissfully] Oh, you were wonderful.
  • [gasps in ecstasy]
  • Betty Childs: Are all nerds as good as you?
  • Lewis: Yes.
  • Betty Childs: How come?
  • Lewis: 'Cause all jocks ever think about is sports; all we ever think about is sex.

What I love about this movie is that it really shows the true breadth and scope of nerd archetypes; Lewis and Gilbert are what everyone thinks about, but Booger, Lamar, Takashi, Poindexter - all nerds, but very different from Lewis and Gilbert. And of course, Ogre is a nerd, but he doesn't know it....
I think they prefer to be known as Nerd-Americans.

I watched “The Long Riders” not too long ago. Great casting: the Keach brothers played the James Brothers, the Carradines played the Youngers, Chris and Nick Guest played Charlie and Bob Ford. Pamela Reed was Belle Starr, very well done.

I myself was a nerd, part of the .00001% of humanity that didn't know it. Wasted opportunity. If you’re a nerd it’s best to own it, make the most of it.

Oh, in my JR/HS days I was big into comics, fantasy novels, D&D, video games, sci-fi films, etc. I played sports too but they weren't my life. Went to comic conventions and it's wall to wall nerds/geeks. Now you have Olympic figure skaters opening up Magic the Gathering booster packs during the closing ceremonies and listing their favorite anime series. Born too early - SMH.

Yeah, that's a rape scene.

So weird what we used to think was OK.

Sadly it feels like we're getting one of these threads daily now. RIP.

Also, acceptable humor has changed drastically. Even most shows and movies made the the late 90s and 2000s wouldn't get made today let alone the 70s or 80s. People want to be offended...they truly do.

It was a movie and didn’t really happen, so there’s that.

It's a bird ... it's a plane ... it's everyone's least favorite superzero, Captain Obvious.

Did you just find out Revenge of the Nerds wasn't a documentary?

Where was he found?

I guess one of the following places:

Here are some places where nerds hang out:
  • Meetup Sites: Platforms like Meetup, Yubo, and Friender allow you to find events and meet people with similar interests.
  • Cosplay Expos: These events are great for comic book enthusiasts, fantasy fans, and gamers to meet.
  • Gaming Cafes: These cafes offer a space to eat and play video games, making it easy to meet fellow gamers.
  • Board Game Clubs: Places like The Uncommons Board Game Cafe in NYC are great for meeting nerdy and geeky girls.
  • Anime and Comic Conventions: These conventions are popular among fans and provide opportunities to meet fellow enthusiasts.
  • Public Libraries and Bookstores: These spaces are often frequented by nerds and geeks, especially for tabletop games and reading.

These venues provide excellent opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals who share your interests.

Or you could hang with the math nerds in your high school. A classmate ended up with a tenured mathematics position at Notre Dame, nice guy, lived one street over.

So funny what you remember: One morning I walked up to my classmate at the bus stop and pointed at his violin case, jokingly asking “What’s in there?” “A machine gun.” He’s a very well-respected mathematician, worked with some real greats. He’s made a very fine life for himself, a great family, extraordinarily well done.

We no longer approve of bringing machine guns to school.

Unless you go to the School O' Machine Gunning and Mathematics, of course.

My grandson got me "Mind and Matter" for this past Christmas and two bottles of bourbon. One from the Baseball Hall of Fame and one from the trip my son and both grandsons made to distilleries in Kentucky. They wanted to take me, but I declined, due to some lasting effects of the Clostridioides difficile (C-diff) I contracted two years ago. The reason I haven't attended home games for several yrs, but the grandkids enjoy the season tickets.
