It's been snowing moderately for at least the last 2 hours in lower midtown and only just began to stick on the planters, etc.

Just started snowing here in Howell around 1:30 pm. Of course, the pigs had to come out for one last grazing. All the other animals headed for cover.

Snowing in Atlantic City as well, for about a half hour now...
Good sign for snow lovers, as the changeover to heavy snow has already happened; it's intensity driven in many ways, which is why it's still raining in LBI and up to 195, where intensity is a bit lighter, but should change there soon too.

slight decrease for some western sections

I’d call it a bit more than a slight decrease from their prior map…

My job kinda shut down for tomorrow. I know us electricians are not working. I believe its the biggest construction job on the east coast right now. The GC wont shut the job down because of the super aggressive schedule of the client. The job is already very unsafe and has had several accidents.

State offices are rightfully closed too. The people who have remote days that work from home still have to work and are bitching like crazy

Reporting from the Willowbrook section of Staten Island. It has begun. Currently, snow is coming down fast and furious.Big wet flakes quickly accumulating on car roofs.

Temp down to 33F with moderate snowfall and accumulation just started on grass/cars/colder surfaces; paved surfaces might take another hour or so. If you're thinking of heading out now, you might want to reconsider - even if salted roads are ok for a few more hours, visibility is becoming an issue now.

2:15 pm it's now accumulating on unpaved surfaces in Howell. That didn't take long, I really thought with the higher temps it would take much longer than under an hour.

By the way, here's our starting point for snowfall, as we still have 1-2" of snow/sleet on our property, which admittedly is on the shady side, but damn, that's about 35 days straight with <1" on the ground and that's going to go for at least another 7 days now.

Admit it- you had that scooped up from neighbors yards and dumped on yours! ;)

What’s the bust potential? Went skiing this AM at Hunter. Sun was peeking in and out all AM and still at the NY/NJ border around 1 PM. Roads were dry on the thruway. Just a light snow with no chance of accumulation since everything is wet.

Conditions were the best day of the year at Hunter. No crowds due to the forecast. Couldn’t ask for a better day.

depends what you call bust...if the bust is considered 6 inches then its about 1%, if its 12 inches its about 25%, if its 18 inches its about 50%, if a bust is 24 inches its about 90%

Comment on ratios. NBM, which uses a combo of Kuchera and the Cobb method has overall ratios of 12-13 for the NJ coast and 15-17 NW of 95, which is part of the reason why the NBM is showing more snow per QPF than the 10:1 snowfall maps. I can definitely see this, since once we overcome the early melting, the snow crystal growth dynamics in the DGZ should be great for low density/high ratio dendrites, especially after about 7 pm with temps below 32F in the whole column. Only question then becomes how much crystal breakage do we see upon descent through a very windy column. Will be interesting to see.

Also, measuring the snow accurately will be tough once we get past 9-10 pm and winds really pick up. Might have to use my technique of going to a huge field near me, which limits the "edge effects" one gets in most house properties with fences, trees, roads, etc. This was the only way I could get decent measurements for big storms with high winds like Jan-96, BDB and Jan-2016. Carry on.

How was off trail coverage?

I'm probably hitting Mt Creek on Wednesday, hopefully the winds calm down by then.

Doing Chicken Tortilla Soup prep in the crockpot while listening to soft rock 70s on my youtube playlist

Elevator music IMO. Would be torture for me to have to listen to.
BTW, it's starting to stick a little to the cars and the lawn a little bit up here in eastern Bergen county.

Nope. I tried, still got nothing. Laymen's term would be nice.

The telework agreement recently changed. Used to be when state offices were closed only those who were regularly scheduled to work from home that day had to work, those scheduled to be in the office had day off. Now the new agreement says all are supposed to work from home when state offices close due to weather if they regularly have 2 days at home a week, regardless of what day it falls on

The storm just started; there's a long way to go till 2-3pm tomorrow. This isn't even the heavy stuff yet. Believe me I wish it was a bust, but where I'm at, I don't think I'll have that luck. Not that I have any luck anyway.
Our snowblower is exactly 4 inches from the garage door, and I have left it running, so it growls like a snow watch dog. I hope we don't die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

--That was a joke---I have done stupider things than what I said above, and I have lived.

I don’t know why people complain about things like that. I used to have to get in no matter what or get docked. I am happy to have the option to work remotely. Not looking for a day off when bad weather hits.
