Loved your thought about ELO!
Graduated HS in '75. The whole decade lives with me to this day!
Thinking back, my favorite groups/bands were The Eagles, McCartney and Wings, ELO, and Fleetwood Mac!
Also, would like to throw in 60's/70's favorites The Grass Roots and 3 Dog Night!
1957 was a good year.

Steppenwolf : “heavy metal thunder”

album cover steppenwolf GIF by uDiscoverMusic
Amazing the number of inductees each year i have no idea who or what they did....yet a band with numerous original songs most people if not everyone knows is ignored. "Born to be Wild" is still used in commercials.

One of my top 5 all time favorite songs.
That piano opening is just...beautiful.

When I added piano back into my gigs, it was the first song I did.
You must've covered a lot of sheryl crow songs over the years. The room was surely screaming her name until you played one (Like "Play Freebird, Man!").

Luckily...no.
I've never played one, and never had one requested.

As far as Freebird, for a while my tip bucket said "Freebird: $100". Believe it or not some guy actually paid it once.

Now it just says "Sit at the bar and put bread in my jar"

One time I showed up with "Just tryin' to stay off the pole" but the manager said absolutely not.

Love that. Similar story w/ a brunch/happy hour acoustic guitar friend of mine. "I don't play Freebird!" "Here's $60. Do your best". "Folks, you all like Skynyrd, right?"

Favorite Skynyrd song for me - being a misanthrope - is Don’t Ask Me No Questions. Several of the lyrics capture perfectly my need to be left alone:

“Well, every time that I come home, nobody wants to let me be
Seems that all the friends I've got just got to come interrogate me
Well, I appreciate your feelings and I don't want to pass you by
But I don't ask you about your business, don't ask me about mine, yeah
Well, it's true, I love the money
And I love my brand-new car
I like drinking the best of whiskey
Playin' in a honkeytonk bar
When I come off the road
Well, I just gotta have my time
'Cause I got to find a break in this action
Or else I'm gonna lose my mind
So don't ask me no questions
And I won't tell you no lies
So don't ask me about my business
And I won't tell you goodbye (that's right)
Well, what's your favorite color
And do you dig the brothers
It's driving me up the wall
And every time I think I can sleep
Some fool has got to call
Well, don't you think that when I come home
I just want a little piece of mind
And if you wanna talk about this business
Buddy, you just wasting time
So don't ask me no questions
And I won't tell you no lies
So don't ask me about my business
And I won't tell you good-bye
I said, "Don't ask no stupid questions
And I won't send you away"
If you want to talk fishin'
I guess that would be okay”

I think there are two underlying reasons none of these bands listed above will ever be in the rrhof - 1) Different biases against certain styles of rock and 2) They can't admit that 80% of the best music we've heard during our lifetimes took place in the same period, meaning around 1964 to 82ish. It makes the rest of the music time periods look bad.

Well, having the McAndrew Board handle of ‘Lil Nicky Scarfo doesn’t exactly proclaim “Call me up, buddy.” Just saying.

I've been to the Keys many times, and pre-kids heard him quite a few times. I actually saw him before he landed at Schooner Wharf, and that's going back 30 years.

Looks like he's retiring to Arizona.

You are the one who that has the hardon for Sherly not me. But yes I would listen to anything from her before America and Bread (except for Horse with no Name) and well frankly she gets points for not doing that godawful Baby I'ma Want you. Please.
That’s in my personal running for worst song ever!

Like who? I mean I'm shocked that ELP and Tull aren't in but then there are some really good 80's alternative bands not in as well.
If this isn’t rock and roll, I don’t know what is. The sound, lyrics, even the video. If they emerged ten years later they would have been huge.

We first saw him at the Bull. Put a dollar in there and I can play it. He played with Billy Ed Wheeler ( wrote Jackson) on Coal Tatoo, another great WVian !! The 3 Bills of WV Billy ED Wheeler, Billy Cox, Bill Preston
