I just realized it was Ash Wednesday yesterday. What do you give up for lent?

Speaking of that, I misread Potter’s title at first as mentioning “Irish Wednesday” and I briefly envisioned a lent-like run-up to St. Patty’s Day.

Were that a thing, I’d think it would be about giving up teetotaling. Gotta build up a tolerance before the big day.

In the past I’ve given up alcohol for Lent, the fallen apart on St. Patrick’s Day and never gotten it back together. So now I allow that in lieu of breaking my Lenten promise on Sundays.

When one concocts some fantasy chwadle, especially about outdoor activities at luxury places, they need to check the weather forecast there first.

Now on to the next Gambit tradition.....Pysanky.
The Gambits have been decorating Easter eggs in the old Slavic way for over 50 years.
Using a stylus called a kiska to apply melted beeswax, we meticulously draw symbols on raw, white chicken eggs, which are then dipped in increasingly darker dyes. The beeswax protects the artwork of the lighter dyes and you get this...

Out here in Tucson, they had a drive in ash marking at a Catholic church. Yuppers, drive in and we give you bread, a slug of wine, and the mark of the beast.

Well, as an ex altarboy, and Episcopal God and Country scout, I kind of don't see ash and dash as reverent, and more like the wrong level reverence, as displayed by the beast.

I'll do what Catholics have always done -try to grow closer to Christ and sacrifice to help others. God will always take care of you if you ask him.
