Yes, but not sure who yet. No one is at the Messiah today. Which means anyone going this weekend is headed to Lock Haven tomorrow.
That quote hit me when I watched the original interview post. Candidate for low-key understatement of the decade. When you have trouble scoring in the room, Cael unleashes you on tournaments to try lesser (sorry, “different”) opponents."We have a few guys going," Sanderson said on Wednesday when asked by our Thomas Frank Carr about any PSU guys going to Lock Haven.
"We want our guys competing and getting extra matches in. This is a tough room to get takedowns in, so sometimes you don’t realize how much better you’re getting until you compete against outside competition. It’s important for guys who aren’t starting to get that mat time. It says a lot about the kids making the effort to go compete."
That’s accurate. That quote hit me when I watched the original interview post. Candidate for low-key understatement of the decade. When you have trouble scoring in the room, Cael unleashes you on tournaments to try lesser (sorry, “different”) opponents.
Just makes sense. We have had multiple NCAA finalists tell stories of not having any freshman success in that room. Hell, we have a 4 time AA, 3 time finalist, 2 time champ who tells a story of having to stay after practice one night for more than an hour doing whistle starts because he could not get off the bottom. That quote hit me when I watched the original interview post. I wonder if Nico went to open tournaments to get practice at winning rather than getting beaten in the room. When you have trouble scoring in the room, Cael unleashes you on tournaments to try lesser (sorry, “different”) opponents.
I sure as heck hope he pulled a few out in tournaments after the beatings he took in the room. My guess is he did hit a few… and we all know how that worked out for “Nico the Champ” in the end.I wonder if Nico went to open tournaments to get practice at winning rather than getting beaten in the room.![]()
Cenzo told a story about Carter taking him down near the end of a 2-hr practice. Carter was still an uncommitted HS kid at that point. As if it weren't enough to take down a 2x NCAA champ, Cenzo was stunned that a HS kid was still able to compete like that so deep into practice -- by then the experienced college guys were toughing it out. Ran over to Cael and told him you gotta get this guy.Just makes sense. We have had multiple NCAA finalists tell stories of not having any freshman success in that room. Nico and Zain combined for zero matches during their shared shirt year.I sure as heck hope he pulled a few out in tournaments after the beatings he took in the room. My guess is he did hit a few… and we all know how that worked out for “Nico the Champ” in the end.
Wouldn’t doubt it a bit. I wasn’t trying to be factual with the response. No one knows the stats/historical data like you, Boss. Just responding/referring to the, “beating Nico in the room” running joke.Nico and Zain combined for zero matches during their shared shirt year.
