Ok so there have been many music related discussions on here but I don’t think we’ve ever chosen an overall “greatest ever”. So, without further ado, who do you consider the greatest ever musical talent and why? Any genre. Bach to Bad Bunny. Has to be an individual not a group i.e. you can choose Paul McCartney but not the Beetles. Set your own metric on what constitutes “greatest”, just tell us why.

I’m gonna get some crap for this but I’m going with Garth Brooks. Like his music or not, he can sell out arenas anywhere in the world for as many nights as he wants to play. And had been doing it for years. Add in his string of hits and sales and he’s my choice.

#2 on my list is probably Elvis just for the influence he had on so much of the music of our lives. Hard to think what he could have done had he lived longer.

What say youall?

You have to define "musical artist." Virtuosity on an instrument is one thing. Singing ability is another. Musical writing is another. Lyric writing is another. Yadda, yadda.

If selling out arenas any where in the world is your benchmark then Taylor Swift is the answer just look at her last tour

Nope, everyone is allowed to make their own definition. Mozart was great for his contributions, as was Patsy Cline. Sort it all out, who was the biggest/greatest/etc.

I don’t disagree at the moment but can she do it for the next 30 years like some have?

I'd have to say Beethoven. I doubt 250 years from now people will remember any of the artists of our time. However, if you mention Beethoven, people still remember him and his 5th immediately. That's greatness and I don't even like Classical Music.

Some great choices already placed here, but I know the actual answer to this one.

Jon LaJoie. The absolute greatest song in ever.

Hard to argue with that. 250 years is pretty good longevity.

I believe Led Zeppelin was the only act/group to decide what percentage of the gross for their performance. But as far as individual acts I would suggest long time performers such as Elton John and Liberace.

It's hard to beat a man who played keyboards amazingly, sang like nobody before or after him, wrote some of the greatest songs ever recorded, arranged and produced them himself, and inspired an entire generation that followed him, and did it all against the forces of racism and radio stations refusing to play his music...

Ray Charles.

We all have our favorites. If I asked my wife, she'd probably list the Carpenters first, although Sinatra might be a close second. Me, I have so many favorites - Billy Joel, Steely Dan (let's say Donald Fagen if we need a real name, not a group name), even Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield. But - listen to this one and tell me that Glenn Miller wouldn't rank among the absolute greats of the last century.

Oooof you make it tough...
But by your parameters I'm going Elvis. Even though he pretty much stole everything, he brought it across the finish line along with dancing.
I think another choice would be Glen Campbell but man it's tough between he and Dylan.

Probably not the most well thought out answer, but the first that came to mind for me was Fagen.

It might be a better question by musical genre: Country, Rock band, Pop, Jazz, Classical. If you did a playoff type format in each...yeah Garth probably makes the final in country, but a George Strait vs Garth would be close. My memories are failing me right now, but didn't this Board have something like that for Rock?

Fellow Wrecking Crew member Leon Russell said Campbell "was the best guitar player I'd heard before or since. Occasionally we'd play with 50- or 60-piece orchestras. His deal was he didn't read [music], so they would play it one time for him, and he had it"

Merle Haggard: "If the good Lord gave too much talent to one person, it was Glen."
