He looks like he's in much better shape then the start of the season. McCollum just mentioned he's dropped 20 lbs since he's got here. Likely why he wasn't seeing as many minutes, just wasn't in good enough shape to play the style McCollum teaches.

Brendan Hausen on embracing his role at Iowa:

"It's a unique spot to be in. But the alternative would be coming in every single day and not being what the team needs. And I would never do that. I promised myself no matter what, I was going to give effort, I was going to have a good attitude and I was going to support my teammates. I know they would do the same for me."

I wonder if his minutes increase moving forward

Maybe but I'm not sure who sits.

Is it sage who had been terrific this season?

Go smaller and sit Howard but he is great on D?

Combs who has been playing really well recently?

Does Stirtz sit more?

Don't get me wrong, I want Hausen to play and think he will do well. I just don't know who BM will sit.

Not sure what the deal is with Banks.

I think he's more of a situational guy. There will still be games where I don't think he will play at all but I think Ben felt pretty comfortable getting him some time last night. He played well. He's scrappy and we know he can shoot. I do think there was something wrong physically with him earlier in the year and we hear about the extra 20 lbs he put on. Hopefully he can continue to contribute when asked.

No idea that the issue is, but w/out an injury or play where it happened I immediately think of heel/foot/plantar, but who knows? I know this, we def need him unless we juggle the rotations and this is how Hausen gets more minutes.
We need Banks for his physical play and defense. He's by far our best and most versatile defender. He's had knee problems I know throughout his career and I remember a few games from Drake last year where he was icing his knees..

I like Hausen's quickness on defense following the weight loss. If he can get some additional minutes, and if his shooting continues to be good, then that will really be a plus.

Do you remember that one time, after Iowa scored, where he was applying defensive pressure on the inbounds, forcing Oregon to call a time out because they couldn't get the ball in? He was disruptive on D, imo.

Is that where he started to go down the court, but suddenly turned around and pressured the inbound?

What I read today Banks is hurt so probably won't have to wonder who will be sitting at least till Banks is back

With, Banks out, I don’t think we can expect Stirtz to “go off” like he did last night. He had career high in points and pct from 2 and 3 pt range was crazy good. Banks was really play well. Hawks are going to need several people step up big time as this next 5/6 game stretch is tough. Hope I am wrong but I don’t .500 in remaining games. Stirtz will really be under the gun, so to speak, and can’t be expected to go for 30 every night.

Don't have to show me. Had it twice and it sucks. Some moments feel fine. Could get up, walk, run, play sports.

Then out of nowhere you can't put any pressure on it. Sometimes it was right away in the morning. Didn't even do anything yet. Sucks.
IIRC JBO had this. Can’t remember if it sidelined him or if he played through it.

He sat most of the time. When I had it I was not playing high level basketball. But I did drop 32 against Acie Earl's rec team... when he had to be about 40 something.

One if its defining features actually. A 'sine qua non' is the term used for things like this.

He's had it awhile I'm pretty sure. At the first home game, when he was out of the game, I saw him at the end of the bench (I sit near there) and he was rolling out his foot on a ball which is a common treatment for this condition.

Brendan was on hawk talk last nite
He gained weight in summer, lifting weights and recovering from knee injury.
Says he has lost 25bs and now feels much quicker and has been able to pick up stirtz full court lately in practice to give stirtz prep for pressure.
I think this is good news for hawks as he can maybe lend a hand to kael and Bennett in guarding guys like Kam woods.
And get him the minutes he needs to get in a shooting groove.

Glad to see the usual suspects skulking around angrily at Hausen's minutes and success at both ends of the floor.

So you're rubbing Hoss' performance in Ben's nose? Not sure what your point is?

To have a problem with Hoss not playing, is to have a problem with Ben's decisions, not with the fans who support his decisions/understand why Hoss hasn't played much. This is all 2Delusional.

The Oregon game, and even more good minutes from Hoss, don't prove Ben wrong. You would hope guys that aren't in the rotation are capable of those good minutes. And Ben has said all year long that he expects Hoss to win Iowa a couple games this season. Hoss, Jirak, and Thompson can all play. Doesn't mean they all make the rotation. Ben has gotten good play from his rotation all season. Hoss' game at Oregon doesn't take that away.

Hoss is also playing much better now than he was earlier in the season. Has gotten healthy, picked up the concepts, and gotten in much better shape.

Beyond that, if not for Banks' injury, Hoss still wouldn't have gotten that many minutes at Oregon. So it's not like Hoss has proven to be too good to keep off the floor.

That said, I expect Hoss to fill in for some of Banks' minutes nicely, and expect him to keep getting better with more minutes
