Is breaking your foot in Senior Bowl practices better than doing it in your bowl game?

Just a question for those who applaud bowl opt outs. Nick Singleton probably wants to know the answer too.
1. I’ve never seen anyone “applaud” bowl opt outs.
2. Had he broken his foot in the bowl game, it would have given him less opportunity to work out in front of NFL personnel.
3. If he plays in the bowl, that takes away more carries from the kids with an opportunity no Ty to return next year. Could have pushed even more players to the portal.
4. The team won the bowl game. Why complain about something that could have changed that result?

I always that it was odd that these opt outs would play in every single regular season game even when some of them basically were guaranteed that they would be drafted highly, yet sit out one last game when they probably would barely play anyway.

In the end, they're playing a sport in which almost every single player is going to be injured at some point and in some way; that's the business that they've chosen. If they're afraid of getting injured, then do what the 99% of the rest of us do and get a 9 to 5 job, or try a different sport. If you want to be a football player, then play football.

I just feel bad for Singleton. He had the potential to be, perhaps, the best running back at PSU ever. He didn't live up to that but did provide a lot of highlights during his time. I understand the whole opt out thing, and it sucks for him that he got injured now.

I dont mind opting out of the bowl game, cold weather and easier to get hurt. I also dont think you 'opt out' of senior bowl type things unless you are a sure fire top ten pick because those are NFL guys coaching you, those practice impressions you make mean way more.

And he decision to opt out then participate at the senior bowl tells you his answer
All injuries are unfortunate. They can occur at any point in time but the senior bowl is about working out for NFL teams. It's tied to the next step of your career as opposed to playing in a scrimmage.

They do play football...they just aren't playing in a meaningless scrimmage.

I only wish him the best. I feel like the dysfunction of the 2025 team, especially the OL in the first half of the season, really impacted his ability to shine. I still think he has a good chance to be a decent back in the NFL.

If you’re going to opt out of a bowl then opt of a senior bowl. Your teammates come first. If you can’t be with them then why be with stranger dangers!!

Because, at that point, you're trying to get new teammates, in a different league.

While fans may be stuck in time, at PSU, the players have to move on with their lives.

Whoa. "Perhaps the best running back at PSU"??

He's not in that category.

Then why play in any games or the sport in general? They’re football players who don’t play football games. Doesn’t that sound a little paradoxical to you?
No more so than fans who boo their players and coaches, no.

I don’t understand the comparison. If you want to be a football player, then actually play football. If you’re afraid that you’ll get hurt in a sport that you chose to play, then play a less dangerous sport or play Madden in your basement.

Why play in a bowl game if you aren't getting paid for it? The Senior bowl is a different deal because of the NFL coaches being involved- that's probably a good potential draft and career booster, so there is more reason to play.

These kids know that old concepts like loyalty and school pride are things of the past, so they don't value them. It's all about the money. Like it, don't like it- it is what it is.

I agree with your take about Nick opting out of an unimportant bowl game yet playing in the Senior Bowl to try to improve his draft status but your claim that these bowl games are “meaningless scrimmages” is clownish. They don’t charge admission or have two different teams playing against each other in scrimmages.

They do--that's what preseason games are. Those aren't free.
Many spring games even charge a fee to enter.
Bowl games are just a reward for the kids that some fans still believe in--each year less than less will attend.

When you’re wrong; just keep digging. Geez.
