Iowa is probably our biggest rival even if not the best chance to knock us off
Ohio State also may be a legit rival equally as big as IOWA...

both have won championships during Cael's reign and that alone makes them a rival
but add in the history of IOWA... the streak and the championships... this places them slightly ahead of Ohio State in my opinion

However OKST also has some of the tradition... we just don't face them enough... but with an insider (DT) going there and taking many of our kids with him.... the lofty goals and potential for winning (that is the kindling for a big rivalry - in another year or two).

Right now.... I would say that Iowa is still our biggest rival even if they are not our biggest competitor
Ohio State is quickly moving into that role as we have had some epic matches over the Cael era,,, with a lot of meaning behind them

OKST seems to potentially one of the biggest moving forward
and VTECH may be the biggest threat to our winning ways down the road but not a rival (dont face them, no pedigree, tradition or history)

There have been a few mentions of this on the Iowa board, but I’m wondering if Angelo decides to join his brother at UN. They’re saying he wasn’t at tonight’s dual at Carver which seems strange - not even on the bench that is.

As an aside, where is the Corbyator? He’s been suspiciously quiet since the Hawks season has hit a rough patch

Here is one of your neutral posts on HR. Did not take you long to run with TNT talking points.
"Tom isn't gonna make excuses. It was obvious watching that guys were sick. Dean hasn't wrestled in awhile and he's not hurt 🤷. They sure looked good last week do people think some forgot how to compete over the course of a week?"

Me lol you obviously took that as me being serious🤣
Corby- I have noticed you have opinions on the Mo situation. Have you spoken with Mo? I think an interview with him would be really helpful in understanding this situation. I hear constant rumors (like everyone) but the people I trust the most are putting far more blame on the Iowa staff than you seem to be. Angelo is being extended far more grace currently with his injury than Mo was extended. Why is this?

Now, it’s “Penn State is doing things no one else ever has, but Brands keeps us second, we didn’t need David Taylor”. Once Taylor and Penn State have separated themselves from everyone else by next year, it’ll be “Penn State and Ok St have an advantage no knee else has, but Brands keeps us third, we don’t need Nolf”. Once Manning retires and Nebraska hires Nolf and he separates Nebraska up to the PSU/OSU level, it’ll be “those programs have advantages no need else has, but Brands keeps us 4th”.

At what point do you admit you’re wrong? Never is my guess. “We may be 10th in the Big 10, but the Brands still keep us above Rutgers”. LMAO.
Above masterpiece by Random is from the Hawkeye wrestling forum on On3. It’s so true! Those Brands-defending fans are like the Monty Python knight! “We don’t need an arm, nor a leg, nor good coaches, …” 😀

Yes. He went to all of his appointments with his doctor. Do you mean terry brands when you say team Doctor as he was trying to give medical advice? You like to paint yourself as an inside guy but you aren't even close on this.

Inside guys don’t stay inside if they talk in public about inside stuff.
im sure what Mo thinks and Tom thinks are different, also I’m guessing the rumors carry some weightbut how much?
the Hawks are terrible at communication and management.

Not sure where to put this but figured this thread would work. You can say what you want about the Brands but I love having them involved with the sport. I think their mindset is outdated and they haven’t been able to evolve but damn are they both characters. I truly enjoy listening to them even if I don’t agree with a lot of it. The passion is contagious

The part I really took away was where one of the twins said that “without winning my life means little”. I think they absolutely believe that and it pushed them to be great but what a ****** way to go through life. That is about as far from what Cael and Co teach as possible and likely one of the main reasons the programs are where they are

In my opinion it has a lot to do with how they were raised combined with being twins. I have identical twin daughters that competed at everything didnt matter what

Twin girls who would literally try to strangle each other when they went at each other. God bless the soul of the fool who physically challenged one or the other because you were getting both and all was fair, hair out by the root, broken nose, choke outs - in their minds all is fair.
I only have one set of twins, and they are interesting.

More accurate might be Brands and Iowa won't win another team championship as long as Cael is coaching at PSU.
Iowa has only ever placed second once to PSU's first, but with Taylor now at OkieSt Iowa is only going to finish 4th or worst moving forward.

As an aside, based on their current trajectories, I’d expect Okst to hammer TnT’s boys in their upcoming dual.
Trajectory... all it takes is +1 Jax and -1 Endene to change the last 18-16 outcome, even with Iowa not forfeiting 285.

Subtract maybe Peterson, Ferrari, and Bailey too, and Iowa is burnt toast. Still, Iowa can stall to keep some matches to regular decisions.

I know it's mandatory to talk trash about Iowa on this message board, but in truth, I don't know if it's best for the sport to see them take such a dive in their overall ability to compete. For the past 50 years, Iowa has been one of the top D1 programs. They are still a good team but I sense they are slipping to what I would call a 2nd tier ranking. There are several other schools that seem to show a better upwards trajectory. Way back when I was in college, Iowa State was always at the top of the rankings. Somewhere along the way, they started to slip and seem to be climbing out of that hole ever since. When Gable was head coach, Iowa was THE team against which all other teams were compared. I'm not sure I like seeing them deteriorate to the point where they aren't really considered a top tier team anymore.

we'll see who wins the next crown other than PSU. Other than that, they've been in the mix - top 10

The HR personality makes the Iowa decline very enjoyable. Taylor at OkieSt will move Iowa below another team, but I wouldn't rush to move the Hawks out of the tier below PSU yet.

Can stall? Will stall.
Sanderson made an interesting comment in the post match press conference where he said that teams are now using that tactic against Penn State. They engage just enough to keep from being called and then break contact to prevent the Penn State guys from setting them up for an opening. Not sure what strategy the Penn State coaches are going to use to counter, but I'm sure they will have some new tricks in the basket.
