Week 10 of the rankings. Braeden Davis moved the most in the rankings, which isn't a big surprise in that last week was the 1st week he was in the rankings, and then he lost a match against Bailey. Welsh also moved a good bit. Lightning Luke and Cole Mirasola moved a small bit, after their wins (and in Luke's case, Robinson's loss). Surprisingly, there is very little difference between the Average Without ... and the Average With .... Blaze is 5th in the Average Without while 4th in the Average With, and Welsh is 1st in the Average Without and 2nd in the Average With, and those are the only differences between the two Averages. When all the rankings are in, and the Averages are generated, I'll post a reply indicating as much.

A reminder that: 1) different services treat freshman (RS or True) differently at the beginning of the season, 2) different services rank a differing number of prospects per weight class, and 3) computer generated rankings usually are off a good bit at the beginning of the season.

A reminder that parenthesis are listed at the end of each line to show what the ranking was for PSU in last week's rankings.

PSU better take the overnight bus to College Park on Friday night. Long distance forecasts in DC area suggest a possibility of 2 feet of snow Saturday and Sunday.

In general, schools like to hold scheduled events, though they have to follow the orders of state and regional leaders. Weather reports are generally iffy until the last 24-48 hours, so I doubt any decisions will be made before that timeframe.

As for postponed/rescheduled, that becomes an issue for the conference, and also between the schools to see if they have a date where both are free. I don't think there's a fixed rule about rescheduling.

Given how the DMV deals with large snow events, if the predictions for this one hold as the week progresses, it's almost unfathomable to me that they'd go forward.

There is one, and only one, exception that I can recall, and it was an exception for the ages, to end all exceptions.

Caps v Penguins, Snowmageddon/Snovechkin game 2010. 20+ inches of snow. But the Pens made it into town late the night before (flying from Montreal to Newark, and then taking a bus!!!), so they just decided to play it. If I recall, trucks with plows may have picked up some of the caps at their homes. People walked downtown to get there; the Caps' GM took the Metro. Hat trick by Ovi (the first of which is his 40th on the year and smashes the goal camera!) and a pair from Crosby. Knuble with the OT GWG, and a Gordie Howe!

Now THAT was some good value for your entertainment dollar.

I drove to that game on game day from State College in a 1996 Honda Accord. I did not have any weather until Maryland. There were times I was plowing the snow in the interstate. When I got to the hotel the bell hop asked me how I got there, "I said I drove this", from where, "Pennsylvania". He didn't believe me.

This was the GW Parkway as we drove in.

It looked like he twisted an ankle at one point. He could be seen limping and working it out during his slow walks back to center

Beyond that, as I've mentioned elsewhere (and evoking today's Old Testament readings), the reality that no one ever wants to admit when it comes to sports is that most of their legendary/iconic moments and sociohistorical power derive from stories about Goliath, rather than stories about David. And for God's sake, they have nothing to do with small-d democracy, Curt Cignetti notwithstanding. In other words, they are actually healthier in eras of dominant athletes and teams.

Each of those sports are 100x the size of wrestling. Sports thrive with competition. Its not PSU's fault they win by 100 at nattys or beat NW by 51. People love winners and will always tune into dynastic teams, but team title determination by Friday night is concerning to the number of eyeballs that drive revenues on Saturday night.

Sports thrive when people see excellence, regardless of size. When you look behind the curtain, that's why people like sports.

But we can drill down if you want. Palmer/Niklaus/Woods. Ali. That redheaded stoner kid who used to do snowboarding. Bolt. Chestnut.

Saturdays eyeballs have never been better.

Competitive matches/games/events only titillate the hardcore - and they are running in no matter what. Dynasties, superstars, excellence, etc. increase the casuals interest, no matter the sport. .

People tune in to see something that carries buzz outside FLOs Midwest mafia and that’s not easy to do in wrestling. PSU is the best thing to happen to the sport probably ever, and certainly since Iowa ( which did not have nearly the avenues available today to capture eyeballs).

I agree about the Midwest mafia and Penn State being the best thing to happen to wrestling (not just NCAA but also freestyle). However, its logical that viewership of the tourney would eventually go down if there are too many blowouts in a row.
