Not really an easy question, though no doubt some will insist that it is.

It's a real easy question. One coach managed to lose two games in his career where he could have taken a knee and won and the other hasn’t.

This thread should have asked who is the best donor in football… coaching doesn’t matter anymore!!! If CMC had a Mark Cuban we would be unbeatable

Well, that said:

PSU spends (and will likely continue to spend) a lot more $ than IU. So SOMETHING aside from $ would have to be at play.

I just a tweet or whatever where Cuban was stating that IU football will be happier next season than this year… I am assuming that means he will giving more coin but what do I know

Oh he may very well do that (and I know it has been discussed).

That said, IU has never spent as much as PSU - even in the "NIL" Era. I doubt if they will moving forward either - but these are indeed crazy and rapidly changing times, so who knows?

probably want to see him win a game first
I'm hoping CMC wins early but a difficult start in the B10 the excuses will flow. We should be in a much better position to know anything definitive by late October 2027. Next year any bowl invite is a win. I hope we keep Becht healthy.
I also think we are giving Iowa St a little too much credit for beating Iowa.
Lower our expectations and we will not be dissapointed.

I'm not lowering anything just being rationale. 🤷‍♂️

Have you seen PSU's 2026 schedule?

If the Head Coach was TRYING to sabotage the PSU program, it would be hard to not win 6:
A complete cluster likely still ends up with 9

In all honestly, this is the type of dream schedule that would have had a typical HCJF team (prior to last year's debacle) at 12-0. Not a single top tier team on the slate.

To be fair, going less than 8-4 last year required effort. Even 8 wins was the floor given that means a loss to mediocre at best Iowa

Does he give $$$$ to the football team?
Directly to Football? In large amounts? Publicized? Not that I can recall.

Of course, $100 Million-ish to build/finance a hockey program was kind of a big thing :).... and, of course, $ is the most fungible of all assets.

It is possible Pegulas may have given impactful chunks directly to football (some folks do things like that without the publicity), but not that I am aware of. And I think PSU ICA would be very likely to publicize the $&@^% out of it if he did (and it is not like the Pegula's kept their hockey $ "secret" - so I think it is unlikely)

Any really big chunks (let's say 8 figures or more) of unknown provenance would be noticeable in the ICA financial statements.

Last year Ryan Day, This year clearly Cignetti. He saw how to exploit the portal. The rest of CFB will catch up quickly. Next year it will be someone else.

College football doesn't exist anymore, but if we're talking about the best Coach in Professional Minor-League Football, I'd probably say Cignetti.

There is no evidence whatsoever suggesting that Cignetti would have been as successful in traditional bonafide college football where recruiting hs football players (not purchasing seasoned Professionals in the Free Agenr Market) is the lifeblood of a successful program.

Cignetti is probably the best right now, which goes to show you a grouchy looking guy in his 60s still commands respect. A lot of these coaches nowadays look like young hipsters trying to be the players' best friend. It still takes discipline to accomplish anything great.

This almost makes me want to root for Indiana tonight, but I still can't. That's the only drawback I see with Cignetti is he's not quite like Saban was about all the rat poison. He should be telling all the fawners to shut the hell up, they haven't won anything yet.

What? They've made it to the title game, regardless of the outcome. Pretty damn impressive.
