For you who know more: Has PSU FB ever have a QB play for them that transferred in?

Don't trust my memory 100% on this one, Mr. Potter, but I think Jack White transferred to Penn State in 1965. Lettered in 65-66. Might have been from Cal.

ChatGPT will likely give you a more accurate answer than my old brain, however.

Don't remember where he came from, but he was a pretty bad passing QB. lol

Not a transfer, but I recall Daryl Clark did a year at prep school before enrolling at Penn State. Was it Kiski Prep?
What is he doing these days? I loved his playing style. Never flinched, even with a blitzing linebacker running straight at him. Gutsy QB.

To be fair, PSU may have practiced passing for about half an hour a week in 1965.
It was sometime around that year when Jack Curry set the Penn State record for catches in a season at, I believe, 27. That record held up for quite some time.

Don't know White's path to Penn State, but he was on the 1964 team. Was part of a early QB controversy over whether he or Gary Wydman should start. IIRC, even Sunny Engle got involved. Wydman eventually prevailed.

Figure I type it here than ChatGPT.

Shalom
So I did ask ChatGPT and it said no one prior to Rocco Becht. Then, I asked CoPilot and it said Tom Stevens in the 1980's transferred from Arizona State to Penn State. Then I "reminded" ChatGPT about Stevens. Problem is that when I ask both AI bots when did he play, one says the early 80's and backed up Blackledge, and the other says late 80's. I was born in the 80's so I don't remember. But does anyone remember Tom Stevens?

Tommy Stevens was recruited out of HS by Penn State. Played during the McSorley years and eventually transferred to Mississippi State.

Correct no transfer but Kiski Prep. we had a few good players from them Curtis Enis is another, IIRC, that went that route.

When every dating profile and interaction is done by AI then we will have really arrived as the apex species. I think 2027 will be that year. It’ll be interesting how the AI judge will rule on AI-generated lewd interactions. I’m pretty sure our lawmakers are already AI agents.

He was here in Myrtle and talked with him often. Moved to state college working for psu I believe.

I'm aware of Tommy. But, both AI bots seem to be convinced there was a "Tom Stevens" who came to PSU from ASU at some point in the 1980's (though at contradictory times). It's kind of funny.

White was not a transfer from another school to PSU. He is known for scoring the first PSU touchdown with Joe Paterno as the head coach in 1965. He may be known for other things too that are not PSU football related.

Ah. You probably want to say that up front. I was wondering who had hacked your account, posting as if Tom Stevens isn’t Tommy Stevens. ;)

I was there in the 80's and do not remember that name at all.

I remember in 1931 Buster “many passes” Argonsky transferred in from the South, East, Western Ohio school of mining. He set the PSU record for forward passes with three that season. Two were intercepted and one incomplete. Later in life he became Joe’s first passing coordinator.

“Many Passes?” Did he transfer in from Carlisle?

I finally had time to do some research of my own. Here are the facts from the official 1965 Penn State Media Guide:

1. Jack White transferred from The University of Florida (I was several thousand miles off with my original brain fart of Cal).

2. White set passing records at the time for Penn State, breaking previous records set by Tony Rados and Pete Liske.

3. In 1965 -- which was Rip Engle's final year as HC (Joe Paterno's first season was 1966) -- White was 98 for 295 for 6 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also rushed 78 times for 67 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Fixed. Tom Sherman was the backup.
