Still, I found it pretty odd they said there were NO D1 coaches at the game because they could watch Smith and MW on TV and know what they are and not even travel to the game. I always thought the coaches being at the game was as much about the players seeing THEM, as the coaches seeing the players. I mean the two top teams in the country, two top 6 players, and probably 10 D1 prospects between the two rosters and ZERO coaches in attendance? Heck Lisa and Jan flew to China to "be seen" by CC22 and others on the USA U17 team. That makes an impression.
Barrett was there.

Been fun watching Woliczko. Mitty had no defense for Smith who simply took over the game. She's the real deal. 50 piece.

Mitty doesn't run anything to get Woliczko involved, which, idk, it's high school ball. Mitty had their chances to win.

McKenna isn't nearly as physical as a vet college player like Stuelke, so keep that in mind with expectations. Woliczko will need to get stronger to get her game, but she is also just starting to play post-injury in this game. Just great seeing her play and seeing her get back into it.
I think she's probably taking it a little easy yet on the knee. She'll be an instant starter and impact player next season. She is going to be an absolute fabulous player for iowa. Can't wait

54% eFG% is pretty damn good.
Look she's a really good player. No doubt, and made a difference on defense as well. Just making a point. If CC22 put up 39 shots in a game it would have been cause for criticism. It will be interesting when she gets to college if she went 5 for 20 from three point if she gets the same kind of pfffttt, she's just a gunner, like Clark did from some of the talking heads. Not to mention she's their point guard and played almost 40 minutes and had 3 assists.

My comment there is probably more about Stuelke right now, and what she brings to the court in her 4th year. Truly, as you reiterate here, Woliczko is just getting back into it, so it's hard to know what she will be next fall. Just that, you know, college rebounding and scoring is a different level, and contrary to most reports here Stuelke does have skills that help the team. Some of that will take time for MW.

What seems ready to go, however, are Woliczko's 3 levels of scoring and her passing vision, which will both be fantastic added to Iowa's other pieces.

They still need to find that other player that might have been Bjorn, but pretty fun thinking about the team next year already just by adding Woliczko to the 4. Can't wait.

Lets remember it is a big step between HS and college ball. MW looks really good. Jazzy Davidson plays at So Cal. She was widely considered one of the top three recruits in the nation last year. She is very good and will likely be great in time. She has had games that were not stellar. UCLA granted a very good team really made things rough for her. Lets give MW some time to develop and temper the immediate expectations.

Smith's pretty fantastic, and teams are going to throw all the money at her, so don't imagine Iowa will make her cut, but man if only ..

She is a pretty heady passer, so it will all translate, she can bring that. Very much a Chit-Chat, Hidalgo mold, and not afraid to take over, if today is any indication. 39 is a lot of fga, but no point in passing if you can't be stopped. Why OC won today. ----->although the blocking foul on MW that put Smith on the line was a cruddy call. Mitty wins if they got that right.

Davidson looks terrific, so whatever she is doing, any team would love it. Again, no way to know where Woliczko will be after more time, but hopefully ready to contribute. Should be interesting to follow the rest of her season. Hope that leg stays strong.

Can you imagine the attendance for a game in Iowa for the number's 1 and 3 teams in the country ? They would have to play at the arena in Des Moines and charge $20 per ticket.

As for Makenna, she appears to be a great teammate. She shows she can be an above average passer for a forward, shoots from a three levels well, including the free throw line, and can play defense and block shots. Get her to gain 15 pounds of muscle along the way and shew will be an All American at Iowa.

I was surprised at the "Hall Of Fame" coach at Mitty allowing the guards of Mitty to ignore Makenna and be such one on one ball hogs, throwing up wild layups throughout the game. For the most part, it seemed Makenna had to score by cleaning up their misses.

She will be a great player for Iowa!

It did look like in the first half they didn't really try to involve her much in the offense. I guess I attributed that to her missing the first 9 or 10 games and other players taking bigger roles. In the second half she was more of a focal point moving the offense through her at the high post. Unfortunately in the OT the guards couldn't handle the pressure from the defense and Smith was too much for them at both ends of the floor.

Will she play the 4 or 3 or 2 or all three? I would think the 3 if she can make the threes.

Some of her teammates were playing hero ball and MW didn't touch it much. And she still had 25 and 15. She will flourish in a team ball setting. She's going to be great 👍

4. She looked very tall out there. Long reach. Couple of very nice blocks. Not sure chasing smaller players on the perimeter would be ideal, although she does appear to be athletic.

She will need to add strength, and a some bulk, which I think she will. There were some very strong and physical girls on that other team, and MW ended up on the ground a few times.

I’m more hopeful she plays the 4 spot and we can go 4 out and away from the triangle offense. Much better player and ball movement in the 4 out.

Yep, stretch 4. I think she's exactly the player that Jan was hoping Hannah would become if she had developed a jump shot, to work with Ava in the post...

she scores from all 3 levels.

and she has a deadly midrange jumper that Hannah does not have.
A midrange that really none of the bigs have. Ava does hit a few although

Edit..actually ava has been pretty decent from midrange, not yesterday but not too bad usually
