If I recall correctly, I think they had to fend off a lot of late pursuits from some blue bloods on his initial commitment.
Just run a normal ******* passing offense & a lot of the problems getting WR talent go away.
Also signals Watson, Wallace and Godfrey are taking control back there...
I think that sentiment is because Pace did nothing this season.
Dude, he did exactly what he was SUPPOSED to do. Eat space and let the LB's clean up. He played with leverage and contained his area the way he was supposed to. Our DT are not going to tear up huge numbers when they're playing DT at Iowa, because they aren't supposed to. They are there to take on two guys and if someone is close, tackle them. Pace had a very GOOD year.
100% and for Graves to put up the numbers he did was nuts re: TFL's and sacks. In Iowa's scheme the DT's do the nasty work re: double teams and playing gap sound football and allowing the back 7 to do their job. The new DT sounds exactly like what we want and playing for Coach Bell and Parker is a huge bonus.
This is a general practice in college sports. If KF's replacement comes from outside our current staff, we also won't be mad if they bring some players with
Out of all the players in the portal, I find it hard to believe there are NO decent WR’s who would come Iowa.
Does anyone think this might hurt our ability to recruit DTs out of the portal? I mean, a lot of the guys not chasing money are chasing stats.
For those that don't understand getting game film of doing exactly what IaHawk2424 describes, sure...but perhaps they need to be informed that there are dudes making life altering salaries doing just that in the NFL. Will they be the highest paid dudes via NIL, probably not (at the moment) but NFL scouts notice them and teams need those guys along with the "disrupters/penetrators" ...ask Cam Heyward.
It's been this way for years. DT's that play for Iowa and do their job well end up in the NFL. I agree with IaHawks2424, Pace had a solid season.
I don't understand the distain for Fitz or Woods, Patterson is from Michigan and wants to get closer to home. Probably doesn't like the stuff going on at Michigan so chose Michigan St. Ward would be a familiar face to see every day as a comfort zone. Fitz is a good coach, (several have said they would like him to coach at Iowa after Kirk). Fitz or Ward are not aggressively trying to poach Iowa players. IMO
