Why seven? Alrighty, here’s eight:

Slap Shot, Eight Men Out, The Longest Yard (original), The Cutting Edge (go ahead, laugh), Bull Durham, Against All Odds, North Dallas Forty, Breaking Away.

Very few good sports movies prior to the Sixties.

I was on Hogan staff for years and still couldn't come to like Follow the Sun. The story is second to none. The movie itself? There are some athletes that you can't, just CAN'T realistically portray. Hogan was one of them imo.

For a Disney film, I really liked The Greatest Game Ever Played. Another golf movie w/ an incredible true story line, but very well done. Before Shiah went off the deep end.

He spent a lot of time w/ the UCLA golf team and 7 hrs. a day for 7 months on his golf swing.

The Cutting Edge is fine--Moira Kelly was hot
Eight Men Out is my top choice--probably the only one I'd fight to keep of any sports movie.

I didn’t have Eight Men Out on my list, but that’s a good one. Another classic is The Natural.

If you can get past the horrific “golf swing” of Glenn Ford, and you love the story, then I think it’s pretty good.

The Natural was my 8th. Bull Durham is very good, and very accurate as to depicting minor league baseball back then, but Susan Sarandon's character (and Millie) just creeped me out.

I may have to edit this. I'm excluding Something For Joey (as others should, as it's a given).

Rocky
The Hustler (I'm counting it as a sport b/c I love the movie)
Field of Dreams
Hoosiers
Bad News Bears
Slap Shot
Breaking Away
Adding to others, Bang The Drum Slowly, starring DeNiro.

The Game of Their Lives (aka Miracle Match) about the 1950 US World Cup team that beat England. while focused more on the St Louis players on the team, there's some important Penn State connections. One of the other major characters was Walter Bahr, former Penn State coach, and of course John Rhys-Davies played Bill Jeffrey, the US Coach--who was Penn State's coach at the time. There's some inaccuracies, as Joe Gaetjens was NOT into voodoo. But it's a fun flick.

Wes Bentley (from Yellowstone) played Bahr.

my boys and I go skiing, and one of they younging decides to do the fun run race. You are side by side against some other random dude going down the slalom course. Our guy wins his heat!! We all have cameras and film this. I dont ski great, but I do know how to use Final Cut pro. When we get back, I make out ski movie. I rip a bunch of Redford in 'Downhill Racer ' in with the videos we have of out guy winning his race!! It was a blast!! The key when you do this is to have an extra long cocktail hour(s) !!
