Why can’t we win the BIG next year?

I’ve seen a decent amount of people saying on the board next year will be a down and I honestly don’t see it.

First look at our schedule it’s pretty easy overall.

QB: Rocco is an upgrade over Allar and Grunk. Not sure what the obsession with Grunk was. He would routinely have 50 yards passing at half time then throw a bunch of 5 yard passes or there would be blown coverage and somebody would be wide open.

RB: I think will be a downgrade. It’s going to be hard to replace Allen/Singleton.

WR: Our WRs have been completely terrible. Looks like with the guys transferring in and Koby Howard its going to be much better especially with a better WR coach.

TE: I think will be about the same

Offensive line: I think will be slightly better.

Defensive line: I think will be much better. I’m not sure if it was Knowles or Barnes but we got 0 pressure on QB this year. Also we’ve have had some d tackles since Mustipher left.

Linebackers: as of now looks slightly better.

Secondary: looks great.

Coaching better across the board.

Because there’s a massive talent gap between the top teams in the B1G and PSU right now. OSU, Oregon, Michigan, and dare I say, Indiana now have more talent than PSU. Washington and USC may have more talent also. The portal isn’t closed yet, so Campbell could add some high end talent still. The 2027 recruiting/portal cycle will be very important for PSU.

Some of this is very optimistic but our schedule is pathetic and we have a veteran team so we shall see.

I think the first point he made is the most important one. You couldn't really ask for an easier schedule.

We don't play OSU, Oregon or Indiana. Michigan having more talent is debatable, they weren't great this year, and missed Oregon and Indiana. We'll see how they fare under Whittingham. USC is coming here and Riley has never put together a great team since he got there. Washington's "2026 Heisman QB" just entered the portal and is being sued by the university.

We aren't going 12-0 but there aren't any games that currently scream guaranteed loss like OSU matchups for the last decade. The top teams on the schedule all have question marks.

I honestly believe that 9 wins is the floor for this team and we’re not even close to being done yet with the portal.

Because I think one or more of Billy Madison’s coordinators are going to freak and freeze after the start of B1G play. We’re talking about a bunch of young FCS level yahoos thinking they can compete amongst the big boys in the B1G.

A Bob Shoop offense is what you should expect.

Lower thy expectations.

Whoa, Nellie! Whoa. 1) Let's wait until the portal is closed, 2) Let's wait to see if we have a spring game and how that looks, 3) Let's wait until the first three games of the season are in the books, and 4) Let's not forget who else plays in the BIG.

Because Ohio State and Oregon, probably Indiana, possibly USC and Michigan.....are better than PSU.

I think the schedule certainly has done us a favor next year and 8 or 9 wins is doable - UM in Ann Arbor will be tough but they have their issues as well. USC is at home and probable a White Out which helps sort of - who else is all that good Washington? maybe.

Lost in this discussion is that in order to actually win the BIG, we have to win the BIG Champ game, probably against one of those teams we were lucky to avoid on the regular schedule.
