    My point is LANE was the villian but today wouldn't even be considered a bad guy and there was some thinking that Bruce had enough equity to recover.

    I think I know what you're trying to say, but I just don't see how it really matters. Bruce did something that gets even legends fired and got caught. Even if Lane also did, the NCAA didn't catch him.
