    Joanne McCallie gone

bullettoothtony, I believe you may be right. If I remember correctly, I believe that the AD at that time, Alleva, wouldn't pay G what she was probably worth and Texas would. That was sad as Coach G was a complete class act along with being a great coach.

OT: A basketball player from the high school I went to

Was Joe Sommers the football coach when you were at South? Joe was my roommate for 2 years at Elon and is still one of my best friends.

1st. Duke basketball player you remember.

1964, Jeff Mullins for me. Then Hack Tison, Denny Ferguson, Jack Marin, Steve Vacendak and Bob Verga. Great time to be a young Duke fan!

    Duke football fans only.

Loved Jackson and Searl. It was a really tough year (1971?) when injuries forced them to play offense with Searl at QB and Jackson as a RB. They did a heckuva job though.

    Any recruiting Intel?

I have learned, over the years, to really dislike the NBA. They have really hurt college basketball while selfishly diluting their own league.I can't watch it.

    Danny Manning

In pretty much every sport, great players very seldom make good coaches. It can happen but not very often. Usually, the bench jockeys seem to learn more about the game, strategies etc. or they may be those that run the team while playing such as PG's, QB's and Catchers.

Mike Curtis All Pro Duke Football player

Hate to hear this. When I started following Duke athletics Curtis and Scotty Glacken were the mainstays of the team. My dad took my brother and I to go see Duke and Wake Forest play at Bowman Gray stadium in Curtis's Sr. year. I was so excited but some guy from WF ran all over us that day. Guy...
