    Happy Bobby Bonilla Day

There are literally dozens of former MLB players receiving deferred payments from former teams. Chris Davis will receive $3.5M per year from the Orioles thru 2037. Max Scherzer gets $15M per year thru 2028 from the Nats. The Bonilla arrangement, for some reason, gets far more attention than...

    Sorsby ruling

Agree, but once he’s a member of the league, he’s subject to any administrative action the commissioner may want to take. Sorsby is not going to waltz into the NFL. He’s an admitted gambling addict who bet on his own team multiple times. This is a huge problem for the league, who must protect...

    Sorsby ruling

There is. The NFL commissioner is granted broad authority to act in the best interest of the league by the league constitution and by laws. Goodell can easily suspend him if he sees fit. Sorsby won’t be dealing with a home town Texas judge; he’ll be dealing with Roger Goodell, who has an NFL...

OT: “I don’t watch the NBA” thread. (I’m an equal-opportunity poster.)

It’s not just NYC. It’s the entire NE corridor…Boston, NY, Philly. These are cities where sports are woven into the DNA of the community. The fans are incredibly passionate. The Knicks are NY’s team. Yes, the Yankees are North America’s most successful franchise, but they’ve had competition in...

OT: NBA Finals Knicks-Spurs. (“I don’t watch the NBA” posts are in another thread.)

I was 13 when the Knicks won their last title. I applied for Social Security last week. It’s been awhile 😂

David Taylor and Cael Sanderson? Biggest impact on Penn State wrestling?

Taylor was following Cael, wherever he coached. So the “one person” who has had the most impact on Penn State Wrestling is hands-down, Cael Sanderson.

“Joey Chestnut to defend hot dog title while on probation”

Despite the off-the-field issues, a tremendous athlete and competitor 😂

    The Professor

My unscientific theory: Early in their careers, Maddux and Glavine were particularly adept at hitting the corners. They developed reputations for having great command, and by the mid-90s, they began pushing the boundaries, and the NL umps went along. I was in the Air Force living in Alabama...

    The Professor

I made this point a few weeks ago on this board and was heavily criticized, especially by the resident Braves fans on the board. Maddux (and Glavine) made careers out of living outside the strike zone. Hall of Famers for sure, but let’s not pretend they had the same strike zones as everyone else.

Maybe. But 150 million records sold, and 14.8 billion streams suggest he was doing something right. He is the 4th best selling solo artist in US history.

While I get the purpose of these type of lists are subjective and designed to generate clicks, the omission of Billy Joel and Brian Wilson from this list almost invalidates it from the jump.

    RIP-Bobby Cox

Maddux and Glavine lived six inches off the plate their entire careers. Hall of Famers for sure, but they absolutely had different strike zones than everyone else.

    RIP-Bobby Cox

What exactly is inaccurate and unfair about these comments? The details are factual. Bobby Cox kept his job. “Osuna of the Braves,” as he referred to himself while trying to avoid a DUI bust, kept hitting cleanup. Cops responded to Osuna’s house as well, and reported injuries to the woman. What...

    RIP-Bobby Cox

It was a well-documented incident at the time. A 911 call was made. Police responded and reported seeing injuries to his wife. She refused to press charges. Braves had a hastily convened presser the next day with Bobby and his wife, where they held hands and said it was all a misunderstanding...

    RIP-Bobby Cox

Braves did a great job of pretending it didn’t happen. Followed the same game plan for Marcel Osuna 30 years later.
