The early-entry deadline is over. Rosters can now be set. And so, too, can a new preseason Power 36. This is a projection of teams that have the goods to be in the field in 2020. Of course, it’s not the 36 at-large pool since there will be automatic qualifiers. But this is our list of the Power 36 teams that could potentially be in the next NCAA tournament:

1. Michigan State: The Spartans have the preseason Big Ten Player of the year in Cassius Winston back at the point. The depth is in place at every position. Watch Xavier Tillman and Aaron Henry become stars this season.

2. Kentucky: The Wildcats now have an experienced lead guard in Ashton Hagans and got a huge boost with the return of bigs Nick Richards and E.J. Montgomery. John Calipari will have depth and another shot at a Final Four.

3. Duke: The Blue Devils have an elite recruiting class yet again. But the most important recruit was getting Tre Jones to come back. Javin DeLaurier will have even more of a significant role and should shine. The Blue Devils will have one of the best point guards at both ends of the court. This freshmen class won’t have the hype of last season but will need to have as much impact (see: Vernon Carey, Wendell Moore and Matthew Hurt).

4. Memphis: Penny Hardaway got the top recruiting class in the country. The Tigers are loaded led by James Wiseman. The question for Memphis is the same one that dogged Duke and Kentucky at times recently is the lack of experience late in the season or in the NCAA tournament. Memphis will need to get there first and win the AAC. But it’s all obtainable.

De Sousa is one half of the supposed best front court in college ball?

I hope to never see the day where Kentucky has to rely so heavily on a guy that averaged 4 and 4 (with 1.7 fouls and 1 TO) who didn't play in a collegiate game in over 18 months.

I agree with 1-3.

Memphis will be relying on Freshmen and led by a second year coach.

And didn't Texas Tech lose most of their key guys?

Memphis will be running 5 freshman and none of them have one player as good as Kentucky’s teams of past or Dukes team last season. Wiseman is good, he’s not a juggernaut. This was not the year to rely on a freshman class.

They will be running Boogie, a 5’0 120 lbs freshman at point. They have little outside shooting. All freshman with no dominant NBA HOFer studs.

Memphis won’t even win their conference.

Well he did say Memphis needs to win the AAC first and it's obtainable. If Penny can't win the AAC with that roster he should bypass high school and go back to coaching middle school

Can't let this go by: He has the Power 36 -- then names another 15 teams that might be tourney material, for 51teams that are at least semi-worthy of attention. ..and no Indiana.

The disappearance of that program from even the fringes of college basketball has been Biblical in its proportions.

Depending on the site, Boogie Ellis is listed as 6'2" or 6'3" and 165-175 lbs. I see your hatred for all things Memphis has led you down the path of making up lies in order to discount anything positive that may be going on.

I knew he had dropped from his previous ranking as #1, so when I saw a recent AS type game I wasn't expecting as much, but he was basically dominant. Very impressive.

Seton Hall is 7, he doesn't have LSU ranked but put them in others to watch category.

LSU is going to be dangerous if they don't get slammed by the NCAA.

I have zero faith in Emmert and his goons to do the right thing, so they are going to be good.

Seton Hall is probably in my top 15.

Duke is being overhyped. I could understand top 10 maybe but I don’t see how they’ll be top 5—which is where I see them everywhere.
Hurt is going to have to prove to me he'll be dominate at this level. I don't see it. He is very slow and lacks athleticism. He is a great shooter and good passer but the rest, blah.

I was using hyperbole. Must be a Memphis rat to not catch it.

You have no idea how hard it is to win with freshman. We do.

You don’t have a sure fire NBA all star. There’s no AD, Zion, MKG, Morant or Barrett. The closest thing you’ve got is wiseman who isn’t close to those talents.

This is a down class. It’s not the year to try and make a final four with all freshman especially when they’re mainly 4 star players.

Ellis isn’t close to 6’3. He’s closer to 6’0. And that’s the guard that’s gonna take Memphis to a final four? Lol. Penny oversold and you’ll see soon enough.

Memphis isn’t going to win their pitiful conference with that roster.

Memphis has no top 40 kids from the area coming.

Having said that I understand Memphis hasn’t even qualified for every CBI the last 10 years and total fan apathy had set in toward your program. It’s a meaningless program like always..so You get this year to pretend and then it’s back to irrelevant. Have fun mid major.

You might be right. Or, you might be wrong. I guess that's why they play the games! Your ability to communicate your opinions as facts is commendable though. Bravo.

Little OT but I wonder which soon-to-be-fired intern wrote this up?

Katz doesn't write like a third grader.

If you click the link there's a 20 min. video of A.K. talking about his list and he's all over the place so,I would say he wrote it.
