Simply put....

WHY DO YOU COME BACK TO COLLEGE TO PLAY AT VA TECH, A&M, or FLORIDA.??

None of those three are winning a title...even with him....

But even if...why come back to programs that really won't raise your profile nor have a pedigree of putting guys in the pros???

He's graduated...he's played in the tourney...

What's left to accomplish?
1. Get to the NBA
2. Win a title
3. Play on a big stage

Kentucky checks all of those boxes. He wants a bigger contract and a chance to win it all...you don't do that at a non power program...might as well get paid to play in the G League.

And if he comes...he starts over Nick...nothing to be afraid of...

Come on down Kerry. Get him in a room with Cal...I like our chances.

Florida has a good shot too. I like our chances as well. To play Devil’s advocate, where do his minutes come from? We have Sestina, Nick, and now EJ. Adding him means trying to split minutes four ways. Which I KNOW Cal can do, but I’m trying to see it from Kerry’s POV.

Ask yourself this: If Richards and Montgomery aren’t good enough why did we want them back? If blackshear ain’t good enough for an nba team to take a flyer in him after a few years in the acc why do we want him ?

This board is a cesspool of madness these last few days here’s hoping KB gets this crap over with quickly

There's 80 minutes in the frontcourt.

If Cal keeps Brooks primarily as a three-man backup, you split 80 minutes among those four frontcourt guys.

Blackshear gets around 25 minutes; EJ gets around 25; Nick gets around 15; and Nate gets around 15.

Cal's under no obligation to play guys who aren't performing simply because they were former 5 star players. The best players will earn the minutes.

I think the better question is: where did nick and ej get their minutes if blackshear comes here? Dude will start just like Travis.

Blackshear and EJ get more minutes than the other two but that still could mean Nick and Sestina get 15 minutes a game.

Blackshear is a great college player like Travis was. I don’t give two ***** whether that translates to them being good in the NBA.

Because really good college basketball players can help you win a title, even if they don't have long careers in the NBA.

See also: Clint McDaniel, Miles Simon, Doron Lamb, Tyus Edney, Wayne Turner, Khalid El-Amin, Gerry McNamera, Luke Hancock, Byron Mouton, Heshimu Evans, Allen Edwards, Jeff Sheppard, etc.

Pay closer attention.

If you have one year to raise your profile in the hopes of making it to the NBA, you don't choose Florida or Texas A&M over a John Calipari coached Kentucky program. You just don't. Unless of course you are just stupid. And Blackshear isn't stupid.

Split minutes? If Blackshear comes here he plays 25-30 minutes a game. Nick Richards didn't become Akeem all of a sudden. Blackshear is the better player now. Will be the better player next year. In all likelihood he will be the better player no matter which league Richards and he are in for the rest of their careers. I hope Nick Richards makes half a billion dollars playing basketball. Until he shows he can produce consistently UK needs a Kerry Blackshear to have the best chance in the frontcourt to succeed this year.

Minutes are never an issue. The best players will play. It may be a time share at the beginning of the season but as the season progresses, the best players will rise to the top and Cal will roll with the best players.

People acting like Nick Richards morphed Into an All Pro all of the sudden. Dude has been horrible since hes gotten here and if anything has regressed Instead of progressed...sorry I dont share everyones enthusiasm on him. In fact I'm the total opposite and we need another big bad because Richard's ain't it.

I agree. But a grad transfer coming here to split minutes is a tough sell

That doesn’t matter when I’m one player is far superior to the other. Blackshear will TAKE minutes from Nick, he won’t be sharing them. The best player will play and the other one will be his sub.

I hate to see Nick and EJ getting trashed so quickly after their decisions to return.
Both have great upside and I think both will have very good seasons. EJ had a few excellent sessions the past couple weeks.
Be happy these guys are back. Look forward to the season from both.
This board went from celebrating their returns to critiquing as soon a Kerry withdrew.
Kerry will not be coming to UK.
Stop trashing the kids who will be here in favor of one who wont. I assure you, in a few weeks - it wont be a good look.

That doesn’t matter one bit. The best will rise to the top. Blackshear is OBVIOUSLY far better than Nick at the moment. Cal always gives guys opportunities at the start of the season but as it moves along to the halfway point, the best players start seeing their minutes increase. Blackshear will likely average 25 mins or more by the end of the season. And let’s not even talk about if we were to have an injury.

Having seen much trashing, just some people staring the obvious. With that said, I haven’t read all of the posts. So you may be right. Im not bashing them at all myself. I’m thrilled to have Nick and EJ. But I want Blackshear also because he is that good and that much better than both EJ and Nick at the moment. That’s not meant to trash either of them. It’s just wanting what’s best for my team.

Why do you saying Blackshear isn’t coming? Just opinion? Curious.

Post #23 drew my reaction. You are right, most not trashing. But most seem more excited about who could be a Cat, rather than who will be.

Billy Donovan ain't walking through that door. Florida ain’t winning a title. Why am I so confused as to why Florida is suddenly winning a title anyway? Jesus.

No this board as you put it went from feeling like Nick and ej were given returners to uncertainty to feeling great about mcdaniels to feeling like he wasn’t needed to feeling relieved nick and ej are back. Neither of which had any business even thinking of going elsewhere.

6 weeks ago the discussion was we needed blackshear to be a real title contender. Everyone knows the kind of team we want includes blackshear. Pretty much been that way since the day he entered the portal.

Your troll post assumes UK doesn’t get blackshear bc you think you have an inside source. No matter what you read on the gator pay board it means nothing. As of today pretty much the opposite of how everyone thought this off-season would go has occurred. If cal wants blackshear we are in it for his services.

FL is a lateral move just the same as the other options. If he comes to UK scouts are in attendance a lot and the lights don't get any brighter. This is a business decision for Kerry so I don't see playing close to home being some draw he can't turn down LOL. If he wants exposure and to play and practice against the best he comes to UK. UK gives him his best shot at improving his draft stock. With him, this team could very well make a FF and compete for a title and then there's e en more exposure.

I don't feel like anyone is bashing Nick and EJ, but they were here last year with PJ and RT and injuries and foul trouble still had us looking thin in the frontcourt so who wants to enter this season with just the two? We need another big and Kerry is the best available period.

Also for everyone saying we are set we have 10 players. If Allen isn't ready to go it will be 9. The last 2 years in a row we have seen 3 bigs get hurt if that were to happen again we are at 8 and refs love us LOL. How thin do people want to enter a season? Some teams have 13 scholly guys, but maybe not at our talent level, but with Allen up in the air I think we need 11 guys. Especially with Nick as foul prone as he is and the only center on the roster with EJ more than likely playing the 4. Every year a lot of fans say we were one piece away from being elite. Well, Kerry is that one piece that is our best shot at a title.

I don't read Gator pay boards. I am way too cheap.

I have no compulsion to validate myself to you. That either will or will not happen in due time.

I've made the mistake of posting news that wasn't pro-uk a few times in the past. I guess I'm not good at learning from mistakes.

Some of you just want to hear what you want to hear.

So be it.

If the team will be as good as some project, KB won't get 30 minutes a game be cause he won't have to.

And to one poster. Nick has not regressed. He's on a normal progression for a player with as little a background as he's had in bb. Hope he stays all four years but I expect steady improvement this next year.

They convinced Travis to come last year when EJ and Nick were already here.

It's the exact same scenario as last year.

Travis wanted to win and go to the NCAA tournament. Blackshear wants to improve his NBA stock. At least that's what we are told

Maybe. Curious to know cals pitch. If its the standard we all eat (which I hope it is) hopefully they're on the same page

It's still the same scenario. Yes Travis wanted to make the tournament, but he also wanted to get drafted higher.

He also committed when there were three 5 star interior players already in place. Blackshear is facing almost an identical situation and I continue to see absolutely no difference.

If you had actual news on this night I’d go easier on you. The fact is blackshear announced he playing one more season in college and you put Florida out there. Not bc it’s news rather bc it pleases you. I think you knew early on uf was in it but don’t know what blackshear is thinking.

It's not just the Gator payboards that are discussing Blackshear; their other free boards are as well.

Maybe he ends up at Florida. Time will tell, but this is a UK board and you have yet to reveal where you're getting your info. In fact, you seem to enjoy playing the vague card, which doesn't help your cause.

I don't think we get Blackshear.

I would guess UF because that's where he is from and they need some size in a bad way.

He puts UF in the top 5 if he goes there, IMHO.

If we add another guy, I think it will be a reclass. Probably Dante or Omoruyi.
