Guarantee you Grimes is kicking himself for not choosing UK. He got close to it but family KU won out in the end.

Self about ruined the kid.

I feel pretty confident Grimes would be about to grab a 7 figure salary had he gone to Kentucky.

To go from top10 player to transferring within a year (and not under hardship, either), is INSANE for a supposedly elite program/coach.

For comparison.. Green was a lower, multi-year recruit and even HE still gave it a try for his sophomore season.

Jalen Wilson arrives in Lawrence tomorrow for his official visit. Calling it now, he cancels his UNC visit and commits after his visit. Then Kyree Walker reclassifies (if he gets his grades in order - $2,500 anyone?) and commits to Kansas.

That's about the only positive to Grimes leaving.. Don't think Kyree would have reclassified to sit behind him.

Wilson probably isn't much of an impact this year.

A day after an E4 tornado touches down in Kansas a high school kid is going to commit to play basketball in the same state and not even visit UNC? o_O[pfftt] Wilson will probably be a Tarhole or figure out a way to play with his best friend, RJ Hampton.

Walker belongs in the 2019 class anyway. He will be 20 once he finishes his prep school school. Seems like he's better now mentally that his mom is cancer-free (God Bless her!), but Mussellman was there for him while coaching at Nevada.

Is Dotson really going to be a super star without adidas buying KU players and wins? It’s amazing how the calls KU normally gets in the Big 12 stopped happening after the fbi trial

Dotson supposedly got feedback that he was a fringe 2nd round pick from his agent with no guarantees.

How is he supposed to be this amazing player now?

This is promising:

Quotes from Jalen...(https://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article230954058.html)

Wilson grew up somewhat of a KU fan despite the fact he was named after former Michigan Fab Five guard Jalen Rose.

“Growing up I loved the Morris twins. They were really big role models,” Wilson said of NBA players Marcus and Markieff Morris in a podcast with Joe Tipton of Tipton Edits. “I love Kansas basketball. Just Allen Fieldhouse .. the atmosphere is crazy. That’s the loudest I’ve ever heard a gym (during visit to KU during his junior season). Just the tradition they have there. They have a lot of successful guards and wings. Just the basketball, the atmosphere, the crowds, the alumni, the college itself is so alive. It never dies. Coach (Bill) Self and his staff are great coaches. They are really cool. You can talk to them. It’s not even like a coach to a player relationship. (Self says), ‘I am here to make you get better, make you reach your dreams.’ That’s what I really like about him.”

Of what he wants to find out on his trip to KU, Wilson told Tipton Edits: “See what he (Self) has in store if I was to come there, what he envisions for me, what my role would be. I’m getting down to the wire with coaches: ‘What do you see me playing? How do I fit in the system?’ My plans for college are not to come and sit. I feel I am the best player on every school I’m considering. I just want to make an impact and win.”

Also by Bedore:

“They played Kansas State so that is a big rivalry game. The fans are really energetic and probably the wildest fans that I have ever seen,” Achiuwa told Rivals.com. “They actually might have the craziest fans in college basketball. That was a good game and it was exciting to see in person.”

See a theme?

So the best case scenario for KU:

G Dotson/McBride
G Walker/Garrett
G Agbaji/Wilson
F De Sousa/Enaruna
F Azubuike/McCormick

I would put that team as top 10 in a down year.

Not very easy to produce a Wooden winner. I looked at the list and didn’t see many Kentucky players on it. In fact, only 1 in 42 years.

I wasn't commenting on the Wooden Award. I was pointing out the long string of failures Bill has had with recruits.

I'm old and can't jump over a piece of paper, but if I played against the Blind Sisters of the Poor for a year, then I could win the Wooden Award (Not a Helm's title) too.

Why would you worry about a kid getting his grades in order ? Heck Kansas played a kid who did not even gradate HS.

What is your confidence based on? Self continued to start Grimes, give him major minutes and encourage him to be aggressive despite his lack of production. Are you thinking Cal magically makes him a PG worthy of consideration against Ja Morant, Darius Garland, Coby White? Are you thinking Cal would have made him a super SG worthy of consideration against RJ Barret, Jarret Culver, Cam Reddish, Romeo Langford, Herro / Johnson? I cheered my tail off for the guy all year and realize that he's simply softer and slower than other OAD's, so I'm wondering why you are so confident he's getting drafted and pulling 7 figures if he went to Kentucky.

Cal recruits better AND develops better.

So it’s a real mystery why he isn’t putting out superior teams to Self.

Since Cal came to UK- 1 title, 1 runner up, and 2 Final Fours.

Self in that same time frame- 0 titles, 1 runner up, and 1 Final Four.

You realize that you don't need to be a top10 player to make 7 figures, right? Grimes wasn't going to be some lottery pick under Cal (even I don't think he's THAT good).. but I'm pretty confident he'd have been drafted by the mid 40's.

Lol damn right IU has missed the tournament the last 3 years, while Kansas just made a final four last year. I don’t think the sky is falling like you’re assuming but we shall see.

Uh have not forgotten final fours and such?

Yawn. One is 31-8 and the other 25-9 in March since 2010. And that’s only if you cut off Self’s 6-0 in 2008 two years prior.

I'll give a prime example of what Cal would have done differently. I'm going by box score, so fill me in on what I'm missing.

Grimes opens up the season against MSU with 21 points (who they beat, btw), then a double double the next game.

Two games after that they play Marquette. Grimes gets 3 shots, despite being aggressive enough to get 4 free throw attempts off that. Meanwhile Soph Garrett, a multi-year player, shoots 4-13.

IMO, Cal would have done a little more to get Grimes shots. If you're lucky enough to get a top10 player, you have to feed them. Grimes is giving up early, and sitting out a year, probably because of something he didn't like at Kansas. IDK if Self held him back a bit, for whatever reason.. but the use of Grimes is probably a big reason why Kansas' recruiting isn't good.

Love how you dismiss everyone else's stats as meaningless and then pull out your own meaningless stats to try to prove your point.

Your arguments are weak.

Go back to your own board and celebrate your 30-something in a row conference championships in the Little 12 (could someone please learn how to count or add a couple of teams or change the name, please) and your dozen or so Bread Titles with people who care about such things.

Come back when you win 5 more REAL titles! Then we will talk.
